Something I've noticed....
Obviously this is overlooking some major issues that the Blazers need to work through and this is really a post that ignores the team as a whole. But one thing I've noticed recently is that Roy and Miller (as talented as they are at finishing with contact) seem to be initiating contact and throwing up wild shots to attemps to draw a foul rather than getting a high percentage shot and taking the contact that comes along with it. Obviously Roy's 'contact-high' is more glaringly obvious as he takes many more shots, but doesn't this seem kind of like shooting yourself in the foot? I respect Roy and he gets fouled a LOT, but he doesn't really get as many favorable calls as are necessary to employ the "getting fouled and sit on the floor (chastising the refs) rather than getting back on defense" method yet.
Thoughts? Complaints? Call me an idiot?

The difference
Miller is better at creating “foul-worthy” contact, probably as a result of playing 7 more years in the NBA than Brandon. I’d guess he gets the call 4 of 5 times he looks for contact, as opposed to maybe half the time Brandon does. The other difference is that Miller quietly picks himself up and reinserts himself in the play after getting a no-call, Roy lets his team play shorthanded as he tries for an inhumanly late whistle (or something… who knows really?). Say what you want about Blake, he has tried to learn from Miller’s attitude and game. Thus far, I think the opposite can be said of Brandon
The whole team should be learning from Andre.
His shooting isn’t great, but his game is fundamentally sound. Blake has definitely been trying to emulate Miller. I wish Brandon and the rest of the team would do the same.
Yes, and nobody's buying the Brandon Yell this year
I think someone said he’s going to the line at a comparable pace to last season but I’m not sure I believe it.

And as the poster above me alluded to, Brandon has a penchant for whining and not getting back on D
Seen it 10 or so times already this young season

hated that when he started doing it, and it stopped working mid-season last year.
and he started WAY overdoing it. It’s one of those things you should use selectively when really needed, not everytime you drive the lane. At that point, it’s just the “boy who cried wolf” syndrome, and the refs are going to tune you out.
I’d also rather Brandon got back to focusing on making the shots, and worrying about the foul if and when it happens.
How did you guys win that?

Broy Who Cried Wolf
yeah, that about sums it up. Its sort of become the equivalent of Maria Sharapova’s groan-bark every time she strikes the tennis ball.
I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the players in the league made fun of the B Roy Yell
It’s really over the top. I’ve keenly watched other superstars and yes they yell from time to time, but not every single time they get touched. I think the refs have become wary of Brandon.

Me and my best friend do that too
We were planning on trying to get the Rose Garden crowd doing it too, but forgot once we were in the arena (BRoy the “HEY! maker” can’t be heard in the 300 lvl)

undoubtably
If it’s annoying to a television audience (and I’ve had more than one non-Blazer fan comment to me about it) I imagine opposing players find it grating too.
It’s probably reflexive enough at this point that he’s going to yell for the rest of his career – so be it Brandon, but please get back on D!
This is the only thing that has ever really bothered me about Roy's game
I remember in the Cavs game last season at home, he went three straight possessions driving, getting contact and flopping to the ground expecting a whistle, he never got one, three turnovers.
I do think he was fouled on each of them, but make the strong move after contact and not that flail the ball up stuff.
The flail the ball up stuff should be saved for when you are not in position to score the basket but are getting fouled anyway.
I guess the difference is Dre Drives expecting the contact, but planning on scoring if he does not get the call. Brandon, at times, drives expecting contact and settling for the bad shot becaue he expects the call.
Drive to draw the foul but don’t expect to get the call is the mentallity he needs to develop more.

BROY could do well watching Wade tonight. Thats a guy who has learned to put energy out all game. On O and D. BROY is going ot have to learn to do that to take this team to the promise land.
Land Rondo.
"He needs to realize that he can't stop every shot, especially from a smaller and offensively potent player. Get your hands up, make him shoot it over you, but let him shoot every once in a while. They score a little but you stay in the game a lot. And when you stay in the game...smashy smashy!" Dave on Greg Oden
AND1!! AND1!!
Like one of the Chipmunks getting fouled. Actually scratch that, even Alvin would get pissed watching Brandon complain.
