Intriguing Free Agent
Pretty much every season for the last 3 seasons we've heard trade rumors around this Trail Blazer team. Who should they trade? Who should they not. With the Outlaw and Batum injuries you really don't need to trade any key pieces. Especially since you don't really know what you have in Nicolas Batum and how he's developed.
I understand that Batum is out 3 to 5 months and so is Outlaw. I think that if Outlaw and Batum are both going to be out 5 months that they should both sit out for the rest of the season and get ready for next season. If they come back in late March or April I think that it would disrupt the Blazers chemistry. One goal for the Blazers, and the biggest goal for the Blazers is to not only make the playoffs but get out of the first round. If late in the season the Blazers chemistry is disrupted then it will make it tough for them to win in the playoffs. Depending on the matchup.
Now lets say Outlaw and Batum don't come back for this season. A name that I thought of that could come in with the second unit and be instant offense would be... Not Allen Iverson. But Jerry Stackhouse. He's someone who can score, he's been in the league for a long time, and he wouldn't want a boat load of minutes. I think he'd be a great fit. You could have him as the backup small forward. Cunningham as the backup 4, Rudy the backup 2, Miller at the point, and of course Joel inside.
Now I don't want to hear the crap "Oh no, Jerry Stackhouse is a shooting guard not a small forward." If you say that, give me a break. Rudy can play the 3, so can Brandon, and so can almost any other 2 in the NBA. Stack could play the 3. He's 6'7. A veteran which is what the Blazers have been looking for. A good 3 point shooter. I think he'd be a great fit.

Stackhouse gets dunked on by point guards these days

It’s John Wall who is the next basketball jesus, but still…
I think I would rather have Juwan Howard. Or Devean George. What other washed up former Maverick could we get? Has Shawn Bradley handed in his retirement papers already? We could use a third center, just to be safe for injuries or if Greg gets so awesome that Joel wants to play somewhere else.
If KP wants to get creative and feels like he needs another small forward like you suggest while waiting for Nic or Travis to heal up, he should go out and sign a young one who is in Europe this year, like Brent “Air Georgia” Petway (signed in Greece) if he wants a scoring tweener or Othyus Jeffers if he wants a perimeter defender (signed in Italy).
Ceterum censeo Lakers esse delendam
Regarding washed-up ex-Mavericks who are free agents, Greg Buckner is the best in that scrap heap.
At best, Bucker would be a borderline replacement level third-stringer at the 3 — which makes him a poor man’s Ime Udoka — so, uh, yeah that’s not really a feasible option. Yet, as horrible as Bucker sounds on paper, he’s still got more than anything Jerry Stackhouse may have left in the tank.
Dear Paul Allen:
Fire Nate McMillan & hire Jeff Van Gundy.
Sincerely,

How easy is it to get these guys out of their Europoean contracts? There’s two kinds of players that Portland should be targeting, that’s a 6’9, 235+ guy who can “hope” to defend Melo, Artest and other physical SFs, and a backup PF/C in case of injury/foul trouble to LMA/Greg/Joel.
Cunningham is coming along nicely, but I think he’ll get schooled by those physical SFs and into quick foul touble. (and that’s after they’ve gotten Martell into foul trouble, BTW) Then it will be up to Brandon to “not get abused” on defense while these bigger SFs have their way, inside.
As far as backup PF/C goes, Dante is undersized, but effective unless he’s guarding some of the best scorers (Dirk, Pau, Boozer, etc) Pendergraph will be ‘way “behind” when he’s back out on the court and Juwan is a stiff who’s one remaining skill is interior passing (Howard should be playing alongside Oden, or not at all)
KP doesn’t have a lot of trade leverage after the Outlaw injury, and it’s going to take a lot of “good luck” to get through the next 5 months without another roster-debilitating injury.
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
Don't you think maybe
it’s a waste of time to think about possible free agents or trades that you have absolutley no influence over?
3rd down... chainsaw noise please.
Sort of like cheering for a team you have absolutley no influence over?
*Unless KP has a secret plan that makes this statement incorrect.

Yeah, all we do here doesn't usually directly affect anything
I see nothing wrong with proposing trades or free agents to raise discussion— it’s why we got this place.
I think Stackhouse woulda’ been a nice pickup a few years ago, a more experienced Travis type player. He’s also considered the toughest, most bad-butt NBA player during his time. You don’t mess with Jerry Stackhouse, he will murder you, they say.
So, I woulda’ liked him back a few years ago, but now… too old, etc.

I never said there was anything wrong with it.
just a waste of time. I got no beef with the post. Personally I would rather read interesting things about the current team rather than fantasizing about a fictional roster.

We have no shortage of guards
Miller, Blake, Roy, Bayless, and Rudy, with Rudy and Roy capable of playing some small forward.
It’s not like its a lack of guards thats keeping Rudy from playing more small forward. Its Rudy’s lack of size and the fact he is not a small forward thats keeping him from playing more minutes at small forward. If he could give us 35 minutes at the ‘3’ I think Nate would give it to him in a heart beat. But he can’t.
help me with this
Especially since you don’t really know what you have in Nicolas Batum and how he’s developed.

interesting
send mills to the d-league, then maybe.

A. We can't sign any FA's right now. We have 15 players on the roster. It's full.
B. Assuming we cut someone off the roster to pursue a FA, Stack is old.. As Norsk said above, I think we could get much more value / talent from Europe. Don’t we have the rights like 20 players over there?
Wait, Rudy Fernandez can play Small Forward? Um, maybe on offense, dude. Look at the SFs around the league and think about which ones Rudy (or the corpse of Jerry Stackhouse) could guard...very short list.
Alright.
Travis can’t play defense either. Neither can really anyone in the NBA with the rules the way they are. Plus if you gave Stack 15 minutes a night he’d be effective.
Travis can at least put a body on SFs and block a few shots. Martell is an elite, young athlete with serious strength and athleticism who at least has potential to play meaningful SF defense.
…and Stackhouse is on a porch somewhere telling the kids to stay off his lawn.
