Man, I hate when the Blazers play like this.
I hate when the Blazers play like this. It just takes all the fun out of being a Blazers fan.
Games like last night are just so boring. I mean, there's no drama, no second-guessing, and hardly any room to gripe and complain about what the team should have done differently. Where's the fun in that?
I mean, first of all, we haven't had any really good soap-opera issues lately. I mean, apart from a little Miller/Roy playing time/starting lineup drama that seems to be petering out, there's just no conflict on this squad. No squabbling to rip the team management for. No ammo to use for how badly Nate is managing the team in the locker room. How am I supposed to rip the coach when he actually manages to get the egos to work together? How can he do this to me? Is that fair?
Secondly, how can I complain about poor rebounding and lack of interior looks when we're shooting everything from inside? Take last night as an example. 57% shooting from the field with tons of high percentage tips and dunks makes it impossible to criticize the poor shot selection (which was already a problem with Travis being out. I mean, even when that guy is hitting everything from everywhere, his shot selection is always horrible, right?).
I can't even complain about our three-point shooting when we shoot 40% on those. I mean, come on guys, give me something to work with here.
How can I criticize Nate for not playing Cunningham when he goes to him first off the bench at the 4? Ditto Bayless at the 2. When you actually play the guys, I can't imagine how much better the team would be if Nate weren't such a horrible coach by leaving them on the pine all the time.
How can I call Brandon a ball hog when he's racking up assists, and ends up only being the third leading scorer in the game? I can't even rip him for lack of scoring when he's got 18 points at the same time! I mean, how can you take both those away from me at the same time? I gotta be able to gripe about one or the other no matter what, right?
I mean, if they keep this up, pretty soon I won't even be able to keep griping about how The Blazers always choke in the playoffs anymore, either.
Oh well. I guess I can always keep ripping on Blake and Webster. Just gotta hope Webster doesn't keep hitting threes and playing solid defense, and that Blake doesn't keep getting rebounds and assists like he did last night.

The team does well, the Happy Fans go on a fanpost rampage...
Almost as big a mathematical certainty as the Grumpy Fans going bonkers after a bad loss.

maybe both have something to learn from each other
although Grumpy Fan pisses me off so much that I usually just tune him out.
And then there’s Stat Boy Fan who watches the stat sheet more than the game itself. Now there’s a warm and pleasant individual to converse with. Sheesh. – Elgin

It's hard for me to take "anything Nate does is just what the Blazers needed"-fan seriously
And doing anything else is criticism, even if it is productive.
It does make it hard
Just wait, though. The wailing and gnashing of teeth will resume after the next loss (or maybe close win).

If they keep it up like this
I’m going to start following the Bobcats
Two points scored by GO’ = "thunderdunk"
Yeah
I mean, its no fun if we can’t fret over ever single play.

Or have an elite player on the opposing team get injured,
thus creating a lingering doubt in the minds of Blazers’ fans everywhere as to the legitimacy of the win.
What, no carping about the referees?
Oops, I was supposed to be responding to Blog-a-Bull…
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
You need to read Dwight Jaynes
Even after the win, he’s fussy.

His reaction to the Andre Miller situation is ridiculous.
11-5, our defense is better than ever, and Dwight wants to chalk the Miller acquisition up as a big mistake. Mmmmkay.
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
Well...
He did say this about Oden: “And I’m sorry, doubters, if you can’t see the potential of what this guy means to an NBA team, you really don’t understand the game.” I think that’s spot on.

Clearly you did not watch the warmups before the game
and at halftime.
Brandon Roy did not smile once, so clearly he is pissed. Andre Miller was not passing the ball to anyone, he just kept shooting his own shots (this was a common theme, so clearly it is spreading). Some of the guys were so not into the game that they just laid down the floor and decided to wrestle with some of the Blazer staff. Talk about loss of focus, and then to top it all off the were not even proud enough to wear their jerseys because they covered them up with jackets and pants. We are doomed and I blame Nate.

Good points.
Sigh. I guess I just miss the days when our star player didn’t want to be “the man” and getting tossed out of every other game, our SF was messing around with the babysitter, our PG was repeatedly getting busted for pot possession, and the head coach would NEVER play the scary-good young stud on our bench. Now THERE was some good griping material. Oh 2001, where have you gone?

A necessary catharsis.
Best to get it out and have done, methinks.

next step is acceptance and moving on to trade posting
Please, for the love of all that is holy, please stop using the following: "Book it.", "FTW", "Epic" & "Fail".
...no seriously--stop.
Yeah!
With CP3 out with injury, I really think we have a shot to get him! We should package Howard, Cunningham and Mills and make an offer to NO right away!

Let's make it a three-way trade and also get Hinrich... Chicago is looking for a contract dump and won't need anything in return.

Wanna get angry about something??
Brandon Roy hates America!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think he just hates standing next to his teammates
Makes sense since he’s incredibly selfish

the funny thing is
The players have been professionals about all the lineup decisions.
The worst you’ve seen has been confusion about roles when a confusing substitution is made. Still on the court everyone seems to get along. They are constantly discussing things on the court and supporting each other (Dre and Blake really seem to make an extra effort to support each other publicly and I think it it’s because of all the lineup talk that’s been going on).
Most of the drama seems to have been in the media, on blogs, and fan message boards. Players have occasionally talked honestly in response to questions, and the honest answers have blown up into huge internet drama. I kind of understand why players and coaches avoid giving real answers to questions when being interviewed.

I don't know if they're making an extra effort to support each other per se.
They really seem to click when they’re on the floor together. Similar mentalities, maybe, if not individual games.
Good point about players being afraid to give honest answers. No wonder NBA interviews are so boring and cliche.
Keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed.
"Both teams played hard"
It’s why I gave up listening to ANY player interviews years ago…. just not worth the time… although, after we win the championship, I’ll listen to every second…
