honestly
Bynum is more developed and more experienced right now. He’s a better and more consistent offensive player. If you want a guy for THIS year, I think you go with Bynum.
That said, I thik Oden’s ceiling might be higher. Bynum is no defensive slouch, but he doesn’t possess the game-changing shutdown the lane potential that Oden does. Oden just has an instinctiveness on the defensive end that is only beginning to be tapped. This guy will win DPOYs in the league. Bynum might always put up a bit better numbers offensively, but again I’m not sure if he’ll be the same kind of “presence” that Oden will be even on the offensive end. Oden’s mere presence and raw strength are going to command a lot of attention, opening the game up for others.
But hey, you can’t really go wrong either way. Expect to see a lot of battles between these two for a long time to come

+1
If I had to choose for the All-star team, Bynum would make it over Oden this year hands-down. But in the next couple years, Oden will strike down upon the league w/ great anger.
I didn't mean to turn you on
and furious vengeance?

Agreed
There’s a reason Greg was the “#1 can’t miss prospect” and Bynum was taken behind Channing and Ike Diogu. Greg is a superior athlete and prospect, just MUCH less polished right now, most likely due to only really playing 1 full year of basketball in the last 3 years after the injuries last year combined with MF and playing only half a season at OSU with his wrist.
If he can make up that development gap (not really a sure thing), Greg should be a clear winner, although I expect Bynum to be right there with him, sort of an Olajuwon/Robinson or Drexler/Jordan dynamic for their careers.
Olajuwan/Robinson is a decent comparison
but if Bynum is to Oden and Jordan was to Drexler, then the gap is much larger in the L*kers favor than we would ever want.

Well, I meant Bynum as Drexler
in that analogy, can’t miss pick later vs. late lotto pick a year or two earlier.
in that case, I like it!

Greg love his UofO, but they sure hate him.
I’d take Oden, easy.
I’ve watched almost every head to head they’ve had, and yup, Bynum’s only real success has been injuring Oden.
*Unless KP has a secret plan that makes this statement incorrect.

Does this pretell the way the All-star ballotting will work this year?
I feel the two are the top candidates in the West. Maybe Nene is in there but I suspect Oden and Bynum will be at the top.
no
Amare will start at center for the west. It is a complete and mortal lock. Bynum is the likely backu center.

Channing starts at center for the Suns.
Making the All Star game as a 4 in the West is quite an honor.
I'm not getting the connectiong between your two statements, and how either ties in to the conversation

Re: Ama'r'e' Stoudemire
Stoudemire does not play center. Nor does Duncan, Gasol, or Nowitski. Although they all play this position occasionally, they are not centers on their respective teams. After Yao was injured the candidates for the 5 in the west would be Bynum, Oden, Kamen, Nene, etc. For a power forward the competition would appear to be daunting and the openings on the All Star team do not match the number of qualified personnel. Aldridge faces an overwhelming abundance of truly great players at his position whereas Oden (who may potentially be a player of Hall of Fame dimensions) does not face the quantity of established talent at his position. I hope that clarifies my thinking. What do you say?
Good point, however the fan voting for the all star game ignores all of this
Amare is listed as a center on the official ballot. That is all that matters. The fans will vote him in over Oden, Bynum, Nene, etc.

Bynum is going to put up better numbers
Because Portland plays slow-ball AND Bynum’s playing nearly 40 minutes a game. Oden is never going to come close to that – esp. with Joel to back him up.
Statistically, Oden is already as good or better per 36.
That vicious dunk in summer league 2 years ago.
The one that Sergio fed him was enough for me to choose Greg over Bynum. He literally covered from near top of the key to the basket in two steps! And what power! However, I’m not so sure if we’ll ever see that level of athleticism from Oden again.
