Junk Drawer - 11/23/09 - Where's the stamp for my letter to Santa? Edition
Christmas (or Xmas or Solstice, if you prefer) is just around the corner and it seems that there are some in our hallowed ranks who have been put upon to make their Santy Claus lists already.
So let's all pitch in and talk about what we want on our lists. This way, we can give each other ideas. I'm sure we've all been good little girls and boys so none of us should have any trouble receiving what we so desperately hope to attain.
As for me, at the top of my list (as I've made known to my brother and sister multiple times) is the New Super Mario Brothers video game for Nintendo Wii. This is because I'm nostalgic and just a kid at heart. Plus a little bit of a nerd. Hellllllooooo, ladies! There are also always numerous DVDs (films and TV shows) I want every year but I won't list all those.
So have at it, junkers. Spill your lists to the wide world and give us all extra ideas. But remember this: it really is better to give than to recieve, so if you know someone special that really really wants something, get it for them and watch their face light up like an overzealous person's front yard decorations.

those look pretty good. I’ve got some schwalbe slicks on my other wheels which I like quite a bit. I have a feeling come spring I’ll have to replace my wheels—I’ve already had them trued once and had the nipples froze, and my bike is only 6 months old.
by EvilKaramazov on Nov 23, 2009 10:06 AM PST up reply actions
back to the bike shop I bought it. They did the tune up for free. When I brought it in, they were like “how long have you had this” I said two months. They were shocked. I think I put close to 600 miles on it in the first 5 weeks… I was riding a lot
by EvilKaramazov on Nov 23, 2009 10:09 AM PST up reply actions
usually just dripping some tri flow on the nipples will help out, but machine built wheels are rarely properly tensioned and spoke prepped, so just buying some another wheelset, which maybe machine built, might not be the answer.
I would swing by sellwood and let them know the problem and they might be able to set you up with a decent set of handbuilt wheels or properly tension your current wheels.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
sellwood cycle? I hear good things about them. I might try to buy a kona from them in the summer, if i can save up the funds.

rivercity has some really good stuff. but I think, with my single speed, i should get a kona, maybe some form of the jake line help round out my options for riding.

a lot of buying a bike for me comes down to the shop
there is not a lot of brand difference at similar price points these days, but the difference in a well put together bike vs a thrown together bike will make a huge difference in the life of the bike and your happiness with it.
I would ask what the build procedure is for each shop before deciding on a model.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
What are you looking for in that inquiry? The bike I bought, the mechanic said it is one of the better bikes to build—everything comes together well. It was one of the points he used to recommend the bike.
by EvilKaramazov on Nov 23, 2009 10:38 AM PST up reply actions
Things I think are important
truing and tensioning the wheels
all cables lubed or greased
removing and greasing the bottom bracket
putting better grease than the stock crap that comes in the majority of hubs and headsets on bikes less than 1k$
greasing all the bolts
using a torque wrench where applicable
as an aside, I have worked in shops where the average build time was 20-30min where it was basically spot truing wheels, and adjusting gears and brakes, and I have worked in shops where we did all of the above. You cant tell the difference between those builds on a test ride, but 6 months down the road the differences really show.

Digitizing something makes it clearer
because it is translated into 1’s and 0’s….with a regular radio wave as it gets distorted, the noise is replicated by your radio in the form of static. In a digital format, the 1’s and 0’s also get degraded …but…as long as the radio can tell a 1 from a 0…it can perfectly reproduce the original source ….perfect reception. The problem comes in when the 1s and 0s become too damaged to use…this results in drop outs
"And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love you make." -The Beatles
by 92wastheyear on Nov 23, 2009 10:27 AM PST up reply actions
Another problem is when they want more channels and compress the signal
Then you’re dealing with compressed data plus dropouts. Double ouch.
Still nice to have more channels available over the air though.
but you are just sampling an analog signal, so you will always lose something, so you will never have a perfect replication with a digitized signal
if your radio is amplifying noise it needs a better filter, and not necessarily a digital filter
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
No filter is needed on digital
it perfectly recreates whatever is sent out from the radio station….no possibility of static. Analog could use a filter…but any filtering process would also include signal loss
"And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love you make." -The Beatles
by 92wastheyear on Nov 23, 2009 10:58 AM PST up reply actions
if you are just digitizing a signal then you will get all of its warts and then some, and thus you use a digital filter to try and drop those warts
any kind of filter will lose some some of the signal, but the trick is to design filters that drop what you want and keep what you do want, and active filters can do that without degrading the signal of interest
digitization of a signal will always results in a loss of data. It is just the nature of the process.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
you are talking about processing the signal before broadcast
not filtering it at the end user. Analog gets degraded during broadcast…digital doesn’t (at least not in a way the end user notices)
"And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love you make." -The Beatles
by 92wastheyear on Nov 23, 2009 11:06 AM PST up reply actions
some where along the line you have to do ADC, and no matter where that takes place, you will lose some of the data.
So far I see no reason how HD radio could possibly do any better than analog aside from the fact that they might do some really fancy filtering and rectification to make things sound better than a poorly designed analog system.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
We are talking about 2 different things
If the quality of the broadcasts are the same at the time of broadcast…then the user will get a better results with digital….hands down…that is what I have been saying.
You seem to be talking about loss happening during the Analog to digital conversion…which would happen before broadcast. I can’t speak to that since I am not in the radio biz

I figure that brick and mortar needs to come up with a way to compete with online stuff. If I find a store where I feel that I get something more than I can online I will do it.
For instance, I know enough about bikes where I dont need to go to bike shops, but for something like stereo equipment, I need someone with expertise, so I would shop brick and mortar.

Not to be all Debbie Downer
But an article on How outlet malls fool shoppers into thinking they’re getting deals.
My favorite: Some chains know the outlet malls are so popular, they actually are making lower-quality items to sell cheaper there.
I linked to the lifehacker article for the bullet points. The longer article is attached but for a lot of folks, it would be a TL;DR.
Sorry, that was consumerist, not lifehacker, my bad.
Not even a big fan of consumerist, but the point still remains.

It's been called "Black Friday" since at least the 60's
The official term was established about 1975, but it was termed for a long-time practice of shopping after Thanksgiving.
It’s actually often not the busiest shopping day of the year btw. That’s typically the Sat or Sun prior to Christmas.
They weren’t always called Doorbusters, but it’s been traditional for a long time to have special deals for the first few hours of store opening on Friday.
thanks for the clarification
it seems like the camping for items has gotten earlier and earlier every year. i skipped 3 years of black fridays and did it 2 years ago, and when i found out people were skipping thxigiving to be in line in order to get door busters, i said screw this. i’ll stick to online shopping. plus amex daily wish is enough of a bonus for me that i dont need door busters.

While it was previously sporadic, it seems to be more common to have midnight shopping, for example.
ya i heard that a lot of retailers were going to do that this year
those are mostly the malls and clothing retailers tho right? if wal mart or target has some bf stuff i want, i may just buy em now and get em price adjusted…but i dont think i’ll ever go to best buy for theirs anymore.

I could have sworn they disallow that.
Not sure on who’s doing midnight shopping this year. Usually Kohls will, and they’re mainly clothing of course.
We’ll do our usual BF tradition over here: Sleep in. then we’ll hit lunch next to the Target, and stop by at noon to pick up the any sale stuff (DVD’s and the like) that is usually well-stocked and cheap.
they dont advertise it

Anybody go to Skibowl yesterday?
It was goooood. A little heavy, but deep and awesome. No better way to test out my surgically repaired knee than by heaving off of some rocks into the pow.
awesome
i’m going to meadows tomorrow…how are the roads?

roads were clear up to a couple miles from Skibowl
even though it dumped up there the freezing level was pretty high so there’s not a lot of covered roads to contend with. meadows had some wicked winds yesterday so they didn’t operate, but they’re open today so it’s getting tracked now. better watch that forecast, it might rain up there tomorrow.
I am insanely jealous
I don’t get to test my surgically repaired knee on the snow until next year. But then my surgery was just 2 weeks ago so I can’t really complain too much.

Yup.....
going exceedingly well. I’m a little ahead of schedule…..but it’s a 22 week therapy process now. 6 hours a day on a machine that continually flexes the leg for 4 more weeks, and a bunch of exercises.
But I can get back on a bike late this week….I am so stoked! Yeah, it’s on the stand, and initially with no resistance, but at least I’ll be actually doing something.

I'm recovering from microfracture as well
I injured my knee at Skibowl 2 seasons ago. It’s a long slow recovery and I’ve had a few setbacks but it I’m feeling pretty strong this season.
My doc never put me on the CPM machine. I was also stoked to be able to get back on my bike. I was able to ride to class before I could walk without crutches, so I felt pretty rad riding around with crutches in my backpack.
I rode 200 miles in 1 day for STP earlier this summer, knee felt great. I ran Hood to Coast as well… knee felt ok. I’ve been playing pick up ball lately and yesterday I had an awesome time on the mountain so I’m stoked. Even though it’s coming up on 2 years I’m not 100% but it still seems to be slowly improving and it doesn’t hold me back.
you guys are tough beans
if I had microfracture I would just sit in my house all day with the shades drawn for fear that the uv rays would injure my knee.

Interesting to see how different doctors
have different regimes for treatment. As of yesterday, I could walk withour crutches, but only with an immobilizer on my leg so I can’t bend my knee. But I have to spend 6 hours religiously on the machine.

wow, walking w/o crutches already?!
perhaps the location and size of the microfx is a factor too. all i know is there’s no way i could have walked 2 weeks in. i was on crutches for close 6 weeks and then it was still pretty damn tender. sounds like your path to recovery will be a little easier.
Mine was on
the backside of the patela….about a thumbnail size hole in the cartilage. Since it’s not a weightbearing location, it does get me on my feet sooner…..but it is why I need to keep flexing the knee….to help shape the new growth.
Walking with a knee immobilizer on is technically walking….but it sure looks and feels a lot funnier than walking. Looks more like a seriously drunk penguin.

ahh. yeah, mine was 2cm x 2cm on the femur in a load bearing spot, so that explains the differences. i couldn’t have walked that early if i wanted too — way too painful at first. i tried physical therapy for a while but they kept just saying don’t push through the pain when working my knee out. i didn’t need to keep seeing them for that advice. rehabbing got a lot easier once i was able to get on my bike… even early on i couldn’t even tell i had surgery unless i was really pushing hard up a hill.

oh, you're one of THOSE neighbors?
If you hate them then that’s the way to go but if they are somewhat nice and you don’t mind them the rest of the year you should just ask them to turn it down.
Lets say that in the past they have been less than strict about having their dogs not take dumps on my lawn
So their is some tension there.
And have your ever heard “I Saw Three Ships” repeatedly over the course of a couple hours, night after night? The song makes no sense. There isn’t a place for those ships to dock in Bethlehem. Why couldn’t they have at lease attempted to make the song jive with tradition?
But of couse you and your giant shoe closet wouldn’t know a thing about neighbors, would we?

It was a joke, though an interesting topic for all college students. A lot of psychology topics are pretty hard stuff, and many case studies are pretty long and often quite complex and boring.
This might also work:

Crum, A. J. & Langer, E. J. (2007). Mindset Matters: Exercise and the Placebo Effect. That’s a pretty good one, they made one group of people cleaning hotel rooms believe that their work was good for their health with astonishing results. It all depends on how you value your work.

well I don’t know what you studied or the direction of the class, but two major themes jump out at me: technology/tactics in battle (the Hoplites) or how that battle saved Greek culture, which in turn rippled through Western Society. If you’re a law cat, I’d recommend the latter. I’d divide the paper into the cultural dominance of Persia and the ramifications of a Persian victory and then, compare that to the small Greek culture of the time and the consequential influence that has spawned from the Greeks.
What’s this class? what else did you study? Did you guys read herodotus?

hmmm.. Well, I’d scrap what I said before. I haven’t read herodotus in many moons. I think the most important thing to do, is look for an angle—maybe like how the Greeks won, per Herodotus—talk about tactics vs numbers. What you don’t want to write, is a play by play account of the battle. Avoid something really boring for you to write, cause I will be equally boring to read/grade.

per chris sheridan
How long will it be until Roy and Miller CAN play together? Ever?
Chris Sheridan
(3:12 PM)
That’s the question of the day in Portland, Luke, and I don’t have the answer any more than Nate McMillan does. I never saw the Miller signing as a good fit, just the Blazers scooping up the best available remaining free agent — pretty much spending their cap space while they still had an opportunity to do so. So I could see them moving Andre if the right deal came along and then giving a larger role to Rudy Fernandez, who I feel is their third-best player behind Brandon and LaMarcus.
it's nice to see the "Big 3"
playing like the “Big 3”
or at least that’s what the stats say
"Your best?!?!! Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and &^%@ the prom queen"
2008 Civil War: Oregon 65 - Oregon State 38
well, sort of
but Roy is not playing like a #1 guy, Aldridge is playing like the #3 guy that he is, and Oden is playing like a #1b-ish guy, but isn’t doing so for enough minutes.
I mean
they are playing like the top 3 players on the team, which is good.
Even though Roy doesn’t have the stats of a true #1 guy.
"Your best?!?!! Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and &^%@ the prom queen"
2008 Civil War: Oregon 65 - Oregon State 38
Most fouls = his fault
I’m maybe the biggest Oden-Homer around, literally, and I still say the foul problems are mostly his fault.
He gets picked on, there are bad calls, we put pressure on him with weak perimeter defenders, but he knows better for most of those calls and it makes the bad ones worse because it takes him out of the game.
His foul rate hasn’t gone down a LOT, but I’d also say the type of fouls he’s getting now are better. No more hip checking drivers for no reason. He can get out of the way easier.
Oden’s foul problems, and not being able to trust him to manage it, is the cause of his minutes being down.
I know it will turnaround and then his stats will reflect his impact.
I'd say 80% are his own doing
he still brings his arms down, hips checks too much and gets his body into drivers
other times though, he just gets called for stuff that is absurd. Or doesn’t get calls that would be called against him….like that “block” on a dunk by the D league guy that the Warriors brought up.
He’s doing better letting some plays go, though.
You won.
by Roybot on Nov 11, 2009 1:41 AM PST
He gets picked on, for sure
It is lame.
But, the problem is, it often happens before or after a silly rookie foul that he knows better than to do. Making it a bigger problem.
And doing silly fouls is why he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt from refs unless he is blocking a shot.
It isn’t fair at all, but it ’tis what it ’tis.
i still think
he will never become a star until the refs think he is one.
its as simple as that. because of his size, his game is predicated on not pissing off the refs.
also sometimes I wish I hadn’t read that donaghy excerpt on deadspin, because I see shades of those things all the time with Oden.

very much so
but 1 foul per quarter and sit him is probably the most moronic idea ever. I understand it served a purpose to make greg think about it, but the longer we do it the more games we lose to teams like GS
by GreatOden'sRaven on Nov 23, 2009 2:10 PM PST up reply actions
Luckily
That is supposedly ending tonight.
I didn’t mind it as much as most, except when it applies to LMA. Doing it to LMA makes zero sense.
I don’t mind Oden having a better shot at getting a rhythm because he has 4 fouls to play with in the 2nd half… plus it made it more likely he’d made it to crunch time without bad foul problems.
The only time I get angry/annoyed about him not playing is when the game is in hand… he needs development still, lots of it, and those are great chances to work on moves and gain more confidence.
if you never learn how to play with fouls
you will never play more than 20 min a game.
nate needs to let Oden grow up
by GreatOden'sRaven on Nov 23, 2009 2:16 PM PST up reply actions
Yes, he needs to learn it
But his foul rate was still crazy; he wasn’t learning anything. Just constantly being pulled out for fouls.
And if you think any coach will let his best two-way player foul out in the 3rd quarter, you’re nutzo dude! Straight BUGS.
Nate can’t trust Oden to not get another quick 2 fouls after the first two, so Oden’s gotta show he can do it. And by being so damn dominant that NBA refs don’t dare to whistle him for chicken poop calls.
And by being so damn dominant that NBA refs don’t dare to whistle him for chicken poop calls.
As we’ve previously discussed, increased attention at the offensive end would go a long way for referee perception.
I see your point, I do,
but 2 fouls and your out in quarter 2?
umm no
by GreatOden'sRaven on Nov 23, 2009 2:22 PM PST up reply actions
Here's how it usually played out though
Oden plays, gets foul #3 in the 2nd quarter, and sits.
He starts the 2nd half. Gets foul #4 quickly. Sits.
Then we want to save him for the 4th. Then he can only get one more foul and he’s limited.
I hope Oden can stay out of foul trouble more than anyone, but the last thing he has shown is the ability to handle it.
To me, it all equals no good solution
Until Oden can stay out of regular foul trouble.
Every big gets in foul trouble, but not every single game in only 24 minutes.
i think it has more to do with changing refs perception of greg
than it does with greg at this point. it seems to be working as greg isn’t logging nearly as many fouls and ticky tack fouls in the past.

So all
fill me in, what happened this weekend? Wifey had a milestone bday so we did a bunch of stuff, took her out a lot and was out of the look.
Got around to finally watching the games on my DVR. Thank God for the Twolves game because I was about to get on a plane, fly to Portland, find Nate and punch him in the balls for coaching like his players were in elementary school. If it wasnt for the easy win vs twolves I would have been livid.
So what happened that was cool at BE?

Learning from mistakes is important
But is this really a mistake you’d expect a veteran coach to make?
I’d expect that after 10 years as a head coach, these are mistakes he’d have already learned from.
perhaps.
though I’d argue he’s never had to work with a player/star like Brandon Roy so he’s got that to deal with. He’s also never had this much talent to work with. Even though he’s been coaching 10 years, there are still some new waters for him to navigate I think so there are “new” mistakes that can be made.

I understand what you're going for
I’m just not sure I’m excited about having an coach who needs to improve at the same time we have a team who needs to improve. One can affect the other.
If a company is about to go public, you don’t bring in a CFO who hasn’t gone through the process before.
He overthinks and messes up sometimes from it
No one is perfect, certainly no coach, and I know I’d prefer someone who overthinks it but ultimately usually ends up in the right place, over someone truly stubborn (as Nate is often called).
I’m just not sure I’m excited about having an coach who needs to improve at the same time we have a team who needs to improve.
that’s a very valid point. To be honest, I think one of the best things that the Blazers could do is hire an “offensive coordinator” type. Like how Phil Jackson had Tex Winter.

Not according to the boston.com’s Celtics blog. (end of the article)
The out-of-bounds line used to extend from the backboard to the ceiling. Now it’s only the space directly behind the backboard, which can be shot over.
My understanding is that it must go around the backboard, not over it.
So I was surprised that shot counted.

No, I really don't think so
I have seen a lot of his movies though, and he jumped the shark some time in the 90s
Ceterum censeo Lakers esse delendam
The Jerk was one of the movies that put him on the map
It’s a very different Steve Martin than you’d see in, say, Father of the Bride (which I actually think was also well done, but in a completely different way)
He was already super popular with college kids and stuff.
But yeah; his first movie and made him a star.
Yeah that movie moved him into mainstream stardom
He was well known prior to that, and had already appeared in places like SNL.
His family movies are God-awful and depress me
But he was cool back then, before I was born, and The Jerk is awesome.
I really liked Father of the Bride
But that might have been about the last one

It's free money for Steve
It’s like Bill Murray doing the voice of Garfield. You know they’re not excited about it, but it’s a way to bring in plenty of money while they do some art movies afterward.
“That Bill Murray must have been hard-up for money if he did that movie”, Jon Steward to Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Voice work is a weekend only
To make soooo many bad movies… yeah, the money is good, and I’m fine with him wanting to make more money.
But to do it too much is way lame-oh.
FUN FACTOID
I forget his name, but the voice actor who did the voice of Garfield on the Saturday morning cartoon series also did the voice for Bill Murray’s Peter Venkman character on the Ghost Busters cartoon.
Hey, it's online!
For those who have never seen it, here’s Jon’s classic interview where he clearly couldn’t care less about Jennifer Love Hewitt or her role in the new Garfield movie.
It includes lines like “My dog would like to eat your dog” by making a doggie taco.
The fun begins after about 2 minutes.
Ya ever see the olllld interview where he interviews 2 of the Spice Girls?
It never aired, but the Spice Girls were way dumb and trying to act like their sense of humor was much classier than Jon Stewart’s.
Who knew the most talented Spice Girl would turn out to be Mel C (Sporty Spice)?

I fear he’s washed up as an actor. Maybe still standup? Some of the Monty Python guys still do good standup.
Ceterum censeo Lakers esse delendam
I think he's better as an "actor" now
What I question are his career choices.
I also doubt he’s hungry enough to write another The Jerk, these days, but that’s to be expected.
He's trying to find his special purpose.
But first, if you see a car headed down the street pulling a church, that’s probably the guys who stole the purse.
It's worth a rental.
But keep in mind that it’s 1979 humor, which often feels foreign compared to modern humor.
There are also references that will be completely missed. Just unavoidable.
I love that movie.

I will concede that NASCAR is more intense than it seems at first glance
but to call a NASCAR driver athletic is just silly.
I think the problem is the word athlete and how it is defined. We don’t seem to have a good word for people who do things like NASCAR or bowling or table tennis or baseball or darts etc so the word athletic gets used. Many people associate the word athlete with physical prowess, so when someone in a seemingly “less physical sport” gets called an athlete people gripe.

a jew and a brownie walks into a bar...
ok, one last thought on the GSW game…seeing the article by Dwight, i think this might be a parallel observation. (not trying to add fuel to the fire but we were pretty dang close so our mutual observations might hold some merit)
Both JKsnakes and I thought Broy was half-assing it out there…I mean, I’ve never seen him like that. I wouldn’t call him out unless it was pretty apparent. (I am the unquestioned leader of his posse) He seem so disjointed that he seemed disinterested.
Also, Dre’ doesn’t even look at Nate when he goes to the bench or when he’s in the game. He’s basically on ignore mode.
Even though Dre’ does seem like a stuck up jerk, I have to put the onus on Broy to make things mesh.
And regardless if Broy can play with Dre, he definitely needs to learn how to play with GO.
And the final thought is that Juwan sucks so bad that he will cost us a game…There was a guy there who said, “i’m don’t know anything about basketball, but that guy (juwan) should never touch the ball”
Of course, it’s the Warriors but whatevers…It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. I’m more concern with us involving Oden than anything else. BRoy will get back on track after a long weekend of thinking about it.
I observed that with Dre too during at least 2 timeouts. On the last one in the 3rd he knew he wouldn’t get back into the game that quarter and just completely tuned Nate out talking to someone else and looking into the audience. As for Roy, I noticed that on defense he does plainly take plays off, causing additional foul pressure on LaMarcus and Greg. Don’t know how much he slumps on offense, other than that he and Rudy are turning it over at pretty alarming rates with sloppy passes.
Ceterum censeo Lakers esse delendam
yeah, you are dead on ...
it was just alarming to see the body language and them not talking to each other on the floor
the only bright spot is Greg…one time he even told Broy to give him the ball down low. it was nice.
Dre doesnt’ seem to care much about the coaching staff but he goes out of his way to cheer/praise the other players…and don’t even get me started on Bayless…i watched him for about a good 5 minutes and he stared straight into the crowd, not even watching the game…it was bad and sad at the same time
I love Greg

but Hollinger breaks down his power rankings and lets us know that every good to elite team has had some early season struggles.
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=PERDiem-091123
For those without insider, some tasty excerpts:
“Instead, we’re left to pick among several teams that have already shown deep flaws, a list that includes the small handful of franchises we expected to dominate the league. The Lakers? They’ve looked better since Pau Gasol came back, but they’ve also played only three road games and suffered two fairly convincing defeats on their home court. The Magic? Yes, 11-3, but against a soft early schedule, and one of those defeats was a 28-point thumping by Oklahoma City. The Celtics? They barely beat New Jersey, New York and Minnesota, lost to Indiana and are 4-4 in their last eight games. The Cavs? They’ve won seven of eight, but none was by more than 10 points and the loss was a humiliating defeat in Washington.”
“So all the usual suspects seem, well, suspect, and our two early-season darlings do too. The Hawks, for instance, glided through the first three weeks without so much as a hangnail, but crumbled like feta cheese as soon as Mike Bibby sprained an ankle in New Orleans this past weekend. Meanwhile, the Suns still stand at 11-3 after a rousing win over Detroit Sunday, but it’s hard to ignore how badly New Orleans bludgeoned them on the boards Thursday night, nor the team’s rather skimpy scoring margin (plus 4.9) even after beating Detroit by 26.”

To make it work (BYC and PPP), Joel would have to be involved and be sent to a team that has cap space. The only one that could generate it and have a remote interest would be OKC. And not sure they would help us there. I outlined that in one of the Chris Paul posts, I think in the one from Mr. Sass.

Yeah very few players are drafted by a team and retire with them
Not even Michael Jordan.
The Spurs did a great, great job with David Robinson. And of course, he retired a few years before he needed to, so there was no career-ending drift through teams like Ewing and even Olajuwon had.
There are likely very few (if any!) players the Blazers drafted, or obtained on draft night, who stayed here throughout their career.
Chris Paul is more marketable than Brandon Roy, so Geroge Shinn wouldn't sign off on it.

I don’t know, but with a current PER of 1.4 he should be “down there” in the discussion. Even if you take intangible stuff from watching him into the equation, at best you can say that he sets good boxouts. He really doesn’t produce a whole lot of reasons to keep him out there on the court.

well here was my dilema
i had 2 qb’s (manning and schaub) on bye’s the same week(dumb drafting), so i needed a qb and thought carrying 3 qb’s even for one week was excessive not to mention schaub is my starter so i figure i don’t really need eli and pick up alex smith who had a good week prior and i think a pretty solid match up(this is were matthew berry comes in, he had been putting eli in dumpsville for weeks and liked smith that week as well so for once i took his advice). The move doesn’t hurt me unless i happen to play the team that has eli(so of course i did)

it was fate
I’m constantly worried about Romo, especially after his rough start to the season, and have been desperately looking for a decent backup or a trade. In the hindsight is a cruel, cruel female dog twist, I picked up Ricky Williams, but then traded him for Cassel because A) He was an overachieving backup at the time B) I didn’t think he’d keep putting up good numbers as a 2nd back in a timeshare C) I definitely didn’t think Brown would get injured D) I have enough talent that I didn’t think I’d actually play Williams anyway and E) the Romo situation
Then, I see Eli Manning on the wire coming off a bye week and facing a banged up Falcons secondary while Romo is playing a surprisingly tough Redskins defense. Fate.
