Tossing Andre Miller Under the Bus
I don't know how Steve Blake has managed to keep his starting job...oh wait. I was gonna start an official "countdown to Andre Miller demanding a trade" post but wasn't sure how much discussion that would create. At this point, its not really a matter of if, but when.

Because not taking the team's requirements seriously
playing poorly and so on dictate that a player should start. He acted and played poorly. He can’t hit an outside shot. He came in slightly arrogant, deservedly or not, and was fittingly rewarded.
The only reason I can see for him not starting is that the 2nd unit lacks significant scoring right now with Trout out. Otherwise, I’d bet Blake would be running with them.

trade brandon and blake for ....an expiring contract...
and start andre and rudy!
ha ha ha ha
but seriously there’s a problem in our future, and it’s going to get ugly.

If I were KP
As soon as the we’re allowed to trade Miller (in December) I’d be calling teams about trading him. It’s obvious that he doesn’t fit in with the teams plans, might as well try to get a good player in return.
Timing will be everything
What it wil take for KP to get full value for Miller in a trade would be for a contending team to lose their starting PG with a prolonged injury, between 12-15 and the trading deadline
If Miller starts complaining publicly about his role, his draft value for KP will drop through the floor. KP has shown that he’ll hold his “cards” rather than flip them (at midseason) when it’s not in the team’s best interest

Everytime I look at Blake's D, I think of Kirk.

what plans?
what are the team plans? they did sign him only a few months ago. why would they sign a guy that wasn’t part of their plans?
he was part of their plans but their max contract spoiled brat is throwing a tantrum.
at least i don’t have to keep convincing people not to buy the roy false modesty stuff. he’s made that job much easier.
I'd trade Blake instead.
Trade Blake for a backup PF and force Roy to learn to play along-side Miller.

mispost...Blake/Outlaw for Diaw
They might like to get out of some guaranteed salary after adding Jackson, Diaw can play 3/4, give Batum a buddy, has an extremely high IQ, and doesn’t want to be the man.
Miller/Batum(he did it in France and could w/Diaw at p-f)
Roy/Fernandez
Webster/Diaw
Aldridge/Diaw
Oden/Pryzbilla

Try this for a countdown
how many hours before Marc Spears posts a “Andre Miller is unhappy” article online?

nice
the stupid thing is, when Andre DOES get traded to another team, he’s gonna make the entire Blazer organization look like retards, when in fact, the only one who should look foolish is Nate.
I know theres a lot of politics and egos, but if he was willing to go out on a limb and play Roy at the 3, why not take another chance for a few games and at least SEE how the starting unit plays with Miller instead of Blake at the beginning of the game. I mean, thats not even worth considering? really?!

Apparently Roy has more authority than McMillan on roster decisions.
"She turned me into a newt!

How can I help toss him?
*Unless KP has a secret plan that makes this statement incorrect.

I think
Roy was right. He does make other players more confident. He has the ability to pull their defender away and then show confidense in them by passing them the ball when we need a score. I first noticed it with Ime. He seemed to think that if Brandon thought he can score then maybe he can. Then Martel. Then Outlaw. Then Blake. Brandon makes everyone better. There is no doubt of that. Dre is not a deep threat. It clogs things up in the middle. Dre is much better than Sergio. It was good to get him and the Blazers will make it work. Have a little faith.

well, Martell is supposed to be the "floor spreader"
we didn’t bring in Andre to shoot 3s. Thats not even supposed to be the PG’s main (or in Blake’s case, only) skill.
Push the tempo
Create off the dribble
Get the ball inside
Generate turnovers (not saying the guy plays stellar defense but he disrupts the passing lanes)
Take the focus off of Roy when it counts (end of games, playoffs…)

Roy's ability to encourage others
is great and admirable. But I don’t think he was talking about that. I understood his comment to be that if he wasn’t feeling good about the game then everyone else was going to start feeling bad about the game too so his feelings about the rotation and his comfort should ultimately be the first priority, hence his reference to other people sacrificing. Frankly I find this idea way off base. What, are all the other players on the team looking to Brandon to know how to feel from moment to moment? Pretty unprofessional if they have to get their emotional stamina from one guy and the entire team’s fortunes rest on the attitude and relative contentment of one player.
What I don’t get about thise whole situation is that he didn’t play along-side Miller with Martell at the 3 at all. So if he was referring to playing the 3 and not being comfortable there, that’s fine and understandable. What does that have to do with Blake? Miller could play the 1 with Brandon at the 2 and Blake at the 6. With Martell, we don’t need Blake in the starting five.
"She turned me into a newt!
A newt?
...I got better."
There wasn't enough context to properly interpret that comment
If you were analyzing a foreign leader’s comments while trying to decide whether to go to war, you would not pay any attention to such isolated remarks. It’s beyond folly to wholly ignore teh context of the situation and over-value a few isolated statements, which is exactly what Dwight Jaynes and many Blazer fans are doing right now.

Playing efficiently makes the other players confident
I daresay that a flurry of Roy iso’s doesn’t do much for Martell’s confidence

Question: How often do you see a flurry of Roy isos where he shoots each time?
Answer: Never
Martel benefits from these plays.

Roy is still not mature
His childish quotes make him seem like a really selfish guy. He needs to grow up and see that in order to be a championship contender the team is most important, not him. Oh well, most stars have to learn this, but it is saddening since I was expecting a lot this year.
Just enjoy the ride
I got my hopes up and started thinking about contending and championships this year.
At least now we can be realistic much earlier. First or second round and out, but you don’t know how it will happen.
Just enjoy the ride, savor the experience, and hope the championship window opens next year. Better to be disappointed now and lower your expectations going forward. That way you’ll be pleasantly surprised if we make the second round.

The only way Chicago moves Kirk Hinrich is for expiring contracts.
Dear Paul Allen:
Fire Nate McMillan & hire Jeff Van Gundy.
Sincerely,
AK1984
We have those
We should use those as the players are not part of our long term future
We are unwilling to use those it seems because the coach and star put their needs above the teams
Isn’t it awesome to be a Blazer fan…..

Man, I'm all for trading Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw for Kirk Hinrich. Sadly, it isn't meant to be.

lol
rec that one. Made me laugh so who cares if I got burned.
I think I’m feeling a bit like one of those teenage emo types atm, all down and out, world is against me style. Lots of sarcasm and fatalistic comments seem to help though.
"Oden was a huge factor in that...thank goodness he got in foul trouble...nobody could guard Oden" Don Nelson
I like how the only options are a three guard lineup or Blake starting.
What about, I don’t know, Miller starting with Roy, Webster, Aldridge, Oden. Then at least you have three guys spreading the floor while Miller works a post up game with Oden.
The worst part about this whole thing is that it makes Nate look really stupid either way. He was the one who said he wanted Miller all along. Now he says he always envisioned Miller coming off the bench? If that’s true then he should never be allowed to make a roster decision ever again.
Nate’s brilliant idea was to pay 7 million a year for a guy who he doesn’t think fits with his star player, plays limited minutes, and doesn’t want to come off the bench. How in the world did he think that was going to work?

I gotta say, Dwight has hit the nail on the head with this one. I've been pretty upset with how Brandon has dealt with this.
The quotes yesterday about how much this team is HIS were pretty different from everything we’ve heard from him before.
It is telling isn't it?
I’ve felt there was something wrong with Roy’s body language or effort in the 3 guard lineup. Granted he was playing out of position, but he wasn’t particularly sharp. It almost makes last night’s performance a little suspicious. Roster changes…Wham! Instant results. I could be wrong, but his statements suggest he could of been quietly stewing underneath the whole time Miller was in the lineup.
KIRK HINRICH !!
I still don’t know why Blazers didn’t get Kirk Hinrich. He can pass, shoot from distance, penetrate & most importantly defend. Everything we need/want in a PG. Yet we go for the older Miller who can’t shoot. Don’t get me wrong.. i like Miller’s game but Kirk would fit so much better in this team.
its not about who we bring in anymore
Kirk could be a perfect fit but that doesn’t mean Blake won’t keep starting, thats the problem.
The Blazers as a whole are far more like my wife than like me in the sense of their physicality on defense.

That is why KP should include Blake in the trade for Hinrich
Than Nate and Roy don’t have a damn choice!!!
RUDY > MJ
We should bring in Chris Paul
and put him on the second unit

Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
Sergio Rodriguez wasn’t the reason for Portland’s 1st round exit. The reason they lost is they didn’t have much offensive diversity, and Roy had to try to win by himself.
Roy should be leading by example and demonstrating that it’s okay to trust in your teammates and in yourself. How are guys going to become more confident otherwise? How are they supposed to know what to do when inevitably teams are going to trap you and have them make critical decisions? How are they supposed to grow when the coach is under your thumb?
Roy reminds me of Shaq, a player who could have become even greater had he continued to improve himself. What Roy is basically saying is there’s no need for him to evolve, no need for him to learn how to be effective off the ball.
Good luck trying to will your team to victory in the West while you’re being scratched, tripped, beat up, and sent to the floor by every team for the rest of your career.
"I've hacked into your brain. You're throwing a party and no one's showing up."

Typical old man sticking up for another old man
Soon people will realize that Miller is only good on bad teams.
This looks poor for future free agents, and as a small market team in a boring rainy town that is not good
Inviting a FA and (allegedly) lying to him and/or jerking him around is going to be noticed by other potential FA as well as the fact that the max ‘superstar’ Brandon is capable of acting like a selfish baby and the team will allow him to do so.
Blazer Fan
While I agree that Brandon is making himself look childish...
At least with Miller in the second unit, they can score. Blake is atrocious with that group. Should Miller start? Probably. But I think the team is better with Miller playing alongside Rudy, as long as he gets some minutes with LMA and GO..
Roy and Blake can let the opposition get a lead with thier slow assed offense, then Dre and Rudy can come in, and bring us back into it.
Step off the ledge Blazer fans
Take a deep breath. Brandon and Nate want to win. Trout’s out. That’s who scores when Roy and LMA aren’t (primarily). Who’s going to do that now? Rudy, probably, but he’ll need help. Who’s the next person on the team that clearly fills that void? Miller.
Sure Roy’s said some silly things, but he’s only now learning that one should not be honest with sensitive Sallys. He’ll learn to tone down his comments. Here’s the thing, though, Roy should be thinking like that. He’s much better than Miller and does absolutely make his team better in the ways he stated. Unfortunately, it’s one of those hidden truths you just shouldn’t talk about. People are not equal, but you sure as hell better say they are or suffer the consequences. If Roy feels he’s equal with others, he won’t feel that destined for greatness sentiment we need to win championships. Stop trying to bring him down and get in line. When you’re up, people try to bring you down. Don’t let it happen.
I'm a really really ridiculously good looking orange mocha frappaccino drinking manhammer sandwich
Agree with Dwight 110% on this one.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. The way Nate/Roy are just tossing Miller under the bus is comical and ludicrous. NO idea why all the man love for Blake, but it’s ridiculous and it’s hurting the team.
Two choices here people:
1. Stay in happy comfy fuzzy warm 54 win exit the playoffs early and often land, or
2. Make the tough choices, the difficult moves, embrace the change, the struggles and the chance to evolve, to grow, and to improve. Even if it’s hard. Even if it means losing for a spell.
Start Roy/Miller/Webster/LA/Oden, let them work it out. They will, but only if they have to.
