Junk Drawer 11/22/09 - Your Greatest Fear
What's your greatest fear?
Are you frightened that the Blazers will never win a championship while you are alive?
Are you scared of heights?
I know a lady who is afraid of clowns.
My biggest fear is being a 1,000 feet under water and a megalodon or some other ancient sea creature is stalking me, and I don't have enough oxygen to wait it out, and I can't escape to the surface because I'll get the bends. The though of that happening keeps me up at night.
I also have frequent nightmares of getting punched in the butt hole. If you've ever been punched there, then you know how bad it hurts. Usually my nightmare involves me either getting punched there or taking a knee to the sphincter, and then I spend the next half hour in the fetal position holding my taint. Sometimes the nightmare involves an evil person trying to get information out of me and they threaten me with a sphincter punch. I never crack, but the stress leading up to the sphincter punch is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Snakes. Do not like snakes.
I had never thought of a sphincter punch before now. For informational purposes only, does this include contact with the testes or are the boys missed entirely?
Yeah
It’s all tailbone action. The pain moved inside your core and you can’t rub it out or walk it off.
I have never been punched in the sphincter...
But I have landed hard on my tailbone when snowboarding many a time. It is quite an uncomfortable pain, basically incapacitates you for a minute or two. I always said it felt like what I would imagine pooping fire feels like. TMI? Probably….

I had an Asian dude at a park try to punch me in the sphincter to demonstrate his superior knowledge of self defense.
I smeared him on the ground and choked him out.

did you see my comment in the trade drawer? I actually like Jamison makes sense from a Nate and Paul perspective.
i cry for nic
just read it
great comment. i didn’t even know his +/- . i picked Antawn cuz his name hasn’t been thrown around and i just think the Wizards are gonna blow that roster up at the trade deadline.
i don’t know if he makes sense for us but if the premise is to move Miller and Outlaw, it would be safe to assume we won’t get a PG back that is better than Miller.
So we would just skip the whole search for PG and get a better scoring option for the second unit that plays around 25 minutes.
The only problem with Antawn is his contract. If we get any contract back that doesn’t expire in 2 years, it would be an issue to signing Greg…but i’m not sure because I don’t track that stuff.
But Antawn would help us on offense and low post presence.
he fits what Nate needs in a 4/3 that can bail out the zone offense’s bad possessions. Doesn’t pass, doesn’t turn it over, creates his own shot, and scores efficiently. He also rebounds on the level of LMA.
If Paul is looking to go for it now, he is a good option.
i cry for nic
Andre/Outlaw, based on the thought that the Wizards desperately need to get rid of salary and they have a few young bigs behind Jamison.
I think a few teams could offer pure expiring deals and beat us out, though.
i cry for nic
Depends on whether Wash wants expiring deals, they may see an East Coast run with the new personnel
Not a terrible thought for a trade if we’re sticking with Nate-ball.
not enough defense in a lineup with Arenas-Miller-Butler-Jamison.
Not to mentoin that Caron has been bad this year.
Arenas is passing well, but isn’t as explosive as he was two years ago. Haywood is nice but can’t make up for the whole crappy team.
It’s a bunch of nice pieces that don’t fit together well with a coach who doesn’t konw how to get by.
i cry for nic
and Outlaw adds defense?
lol
(I get the expiring contract thing, I’m just making fun)

2008 Civil War: Oregon 65 - Oregon State 38
Jamison vs. Outlaw on D is interesting. Neither great, but Jamison’s adjusted +/- is curiously good, even on a bad WAS team last year.
i cry for nic
Outlaw wouldn't start if he was at Wash...
they use him as the 6th man since they have no offensive firepower on their bench
Nate’s offense is predicated upon getting open looks and then, if nothing is found, going to a reasonably efficient iso player to salvage the possession. Jamison is a beefed up Travis.
i cry for nic
what minutes does Jamison play?
do him, Oden, and LMA play at the same time? would that even work?

I've had that one, when you're out there all alone, you think there's a bigfoot watching you.
It keeps hiding behind a tree, and even though you know bigfoot is mostly vegetarian, every once in a while he craves the protein and carnage of human sacrifice. He’s waited awhile for an opportunity just like this.
Your pace quickens, and your heart rate goes up rapidly. You begin to nervously look back and forth, and any alien noise is enough to set you into a dead sprint. You have the feeling that he’s moving closer, but you are too terrified to stop and listen for the telltale sign of snapping twigs, or rustling underbrush. You can feel the eyes, the eyes! And soon you are convinced you can hear the guttural breathing, and grunting of this beast of the forest, similar to us in shape but not in mind, and you are now powerless to stop it. In your carelessness you turn your ankle on an exposed tree root, and the weight of your overnight pack propels you face first into the ground.
You manage to find the will to turn yourself over, and face this skunk ape like a man. And when you look, there it is.
Nothing at all. Yeah I’ve been there.
Too, too many times.
Yeah, that's a good point.

I’ve seen Bigfoot tracks, no doubt about it.
I was with a couple of buddies in the high lakes around Diamond Peak. Miles from where you can drive a car. We slept about 30 yards from a lake and woke up with the shoreline dotted with footprints. They looked eerily human except large. I stuck the heel of my shoe into the heel of the large print and it’s toes stuck out way past my shoes. There was a small set of prints that walked beside the large set. Must have been at least 20 or 30 prints.
If I ever see the guy who took pics, I’ll get them copied and post them.
I’m a believer.
No prank pulled here either. We were about 5 miles from our destination and night had been upon us for 2 or 3 hours. We all bedded down at the same time. No fire, didn’t eat, nothing. I was up before you could really see very well. And we all headed to the lake together. There were no other prints on the shore. And we definitely left prints as we walked. No rocks, kind of a firm muddy sandy shore. I did not realize the significance of this back then.
Romance me with that Roy rainbow shot which took flight from way beyond the arc and sailed so high that before it came back down to earth sealing the victory, it kissed the rafters and said "You're mine baby."

Romance me with that Roy rainbow shot which took flight from way beyond the arc and sailed so high that before it came back down to earth sealing the victory, it kissed the rafters and said "You're mine baby."
when did this happen?
I can’t wait to see the pics. People can argue the Patterson footage all they want. It’s real enough to me. The most compelling evidence I think are the dermal ridges found on castings taken years ago. I can’t believe any hoaxer would go to such lengths.

KG tripped Chandler going for a loose ball and the refs wouldn’t call it.
Now a make up call to get the Knicks the ball back. All with 40 seconds left. Knicks down 2, have the ball.
Harrington fouled on the drive, 4 seconds left, missed the and-1 but hits two FTs to tie it.
Sundays are for basketball games, not stupid football.

So they need Blake?

You think Williams was better than Lewis or Hughes?
I dunno about Koets over Schuening…
Lawson might be the most underrated player ever — nobody ever talked about him but he was so dominant on special teams. Remember his KR TD against Hawaii? That’s one of my favorite games in the past 10 years.

you’ve touched on all my hard decisions. Aric Williams, as I recall, was just a beast in his senior year. I fought between him and Keenan.
Swancutt >>>>> Victor Butler. Sorry, but all those years of just beasting were killer. Butler is great and a better NFL guy though.
Koets, Schuening… I’m not an O-line expert. I liked Koets. Also, can’t believe you didn’t have the beast Doug Nienhuis in there.
Lawson is rad. Newson, Lawson, Weathersby…. there are a lot of underappreciated guys.

I had forgotten about Nienhuis
and Butler had a better statistical season when he actually played full time than Swancutt did his senior year (as far back as ESPN stats go) 12 sacks to 11.

Oh yes, I was there
Banker and Riley get 12 days to get a gameplan together and figure out how to slow down that offense.
Also, last year we were so down emotionally after that Arizona game; Quizz got hurt, miracle comeback, etc. and we just had nothing left in the tank.
this year is completely different.

I do agree on that, and I think it could be a weird game where everyone expects it to be 200-198 and it ends up being a lower scoring first half.
Riley is a genius when scheming for pro-style offense, but he struggles against the running spread.
I am as big a Beaver homer as anybody. I just think it will be take a transcendent effort by Quizz to get the job done.

I think this is the most nervous I've been about the Blazers in two seasons.
Even knowing that we’re in a better position than probably 5/6 of the NBA. Strange week for the team.
I’ve come full circle and I’m not worried. We’re going back to Brandonball, we’ll win a bunch of regular season games, we’ll lose in the playoffs and people will start to question Nate.
I seen how it turns out.
i cry for nic
I'm worried that we're pushing out "the window" further into the future
If there is a window, of course, and we need to make changes, then status quo will make the team look pretty good while not getting over the hump.
Much in the way that playing Andre and Brandon in the preseason might have gotten them past their differences faster, the sooner any other changes happen (if necessary), the sooner the team will progress after the changes.
I’m worried we’ll be in “This is good enough” mode for two seasons before something breaks.
Then again, maybe everyone gels and we’re contenders by midseason. You never can be sure.
no, I agree with you...we are not looking like contenders right now.
and I don’t see us looking like contenders with our guard merry-go-round thing we’ve been doing.
That's part of my discontent right now, for sure.
That’s not getting into the fact that I feel bad for Paul, regardless of his role with the team.
Precisely
I think there is a significant chance we end up seeing a learning curve like the Jordan era Bulls. The status quo will be very good in the regular season, maybe even 1 or 2 seed good, but teams that have the right defensive approach (like Houston) will bounce us in the playoffs.

Snkes and I were talking about this while we were walking out of the arena...
Brandon needs to stop trying to be a catch and shoot player…His main moves are driving, or stop and pop…This gives him a better rhythm and something he’s comfortable with.
So if you are saying Brandon Ball = Driving/Stoping on a Dime, then i’m game.
Brandonball (or Royfense™ ) is him initiating a lot of the offense, as he did last year.

Actually, I think it's witty.
Dear Paul Allen:
Fire Nate McMillan & hire Jeff Van Gundy.
Sincerely,
AK1984
i don't care if he doesn't know how to play with Andre
but he needs to learn how to play with Greg…pick and roll, etc. Brandon really needs to look for the bigs when he drives
yah, it seems like it's blake and andre throwing it up for the bigs
roy just iso’s…would be nice to see him hit Greg every know and again
hit him twice last night.
Like I said in the JD yesterday, the Roy-Oden synergy is Key 1.
i cry for nic
Absolutely agreed.
It was nice to see Brandon draw the D and dish to Greg a few times last night for dunks.
I'd actually be ok with modified brandonball/royfence.
If he wants to be the primary ballhander, fine. Make him the PG, give him the ball, start Rudy at SG and Webs at SF, and force Brandon to initiate the offense, telling him that he must get Greg into the offense.
The bench would be Andre Miller as PG posting up, with Bayless, Blake, Dante and Joel.
I’m not sure it would work, but it would, at least, be a real attempt at a strategy change while giving Brandon complete control on the court.
I'm ok with that
We’d have Andre playing Brandon, Blake shooting the three, Bayless driving, Dante hopefully not being a negative, and Joel rebounding, blocking, and getting putbacks.
And more importantly… it’s the bench! They’re not the primary scorers. If there are concerns about their scoring, actually integrate the bench in with the starters instead of having two different teams. It’s rarely necessary to have a full B-team in the game at the same time if you don’t wish it.
i'd love to see an occasion bench unit of
andre, bayless, rudy, dante, lma
when we are playing small ball, wouldn’t really be that much worse defensively than the one you proposed
14736251
I definitely think having a speedy small-ball lineup is a great idea
And of course, it can be done regardless of the starting lineup, just sub them in mid-game and completely change the tempo for an opponent to deal with. Would be great when playing a smaller team on the second night of a back-to-back, for example.
if you read the tail end of yesterday’s JD I talked about being okay with modified Brandonball. Greg HAS to be a prong of the attack, other than that, let Brandon handle the ball a lot.
i cry for nic
yeah
I was a little concerned and Cabs calmed me down haha

2008 Civil War: Oregon 65 - Oregon State 38
Roy hit Oden a few times
Very good to see.
I am fine with Brandonball, and we still got secondary playmaker in Andre that will make us harder to stop in the playoffs.
The season is also still very young and Miller still hasn’t fully gotten going.
I’m just happy we ain’t doing the dumb 3 guard lineup anymore. I can definitely be happy with B-Roy handling the ball more.
I'm hoping Miller still gets more minutes than Blake in the long run
Plenty of very good teams do well with a PG who can’t shoot but is a great unselfish passer.
So can we.
The thing I hate about Portland's problems right now
is we can only wait and see if they iron out over time. There is no quick fix for KP/Nate right now.
"Your best?!?!! Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and &^%@ the prom queen"
2008 Civil War: Oregon 65 - Oregon State 38
I'm not against busting out a three guard line up again
i think that nate could/should be evolving as a coach, and i’d like to see him change up the lineups from time to time just to keep teams guessing. I hope that the team dosen’t get in the habit of walking the ball up the floor, standing around watching brandon iso for over 50% of the plays is all, miller was forcing our guys to mature/adapt stylistically, i hope him in the 2nd unit dosen’t slow down that progression…
14736251
I want a sustainable lineup and a set rotation
I don’t think our guys react well to an ever-shifting lineup, and most wouldn’t.
I can’t think of any other good to great team that constantly changes the starting lineup.
I want Miller to start over Blake, but I want us to have a real PG/SG/SF lineup more than Miller/Blake/Roy lineup.
carlise seems to always be shifting his lineups
not sure if that’s just because of injuries, or if his starting line up is usually the same…
14736251
And they're a bad team
Yeah, they’ve been injured a lot, but ever shifting lineups is a sign of a un-good team.
has that happened recently?
It seemed like last year it happened due to injuries, but I dont know about this year.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
as long as we are not the first win for the Nets, i'm ok
if we give the Nets the first win of the season, i might join the Edge
I'm actually serious when I say this...
If Portland shows listlessness and loses to both Chicago and New Jersey, there’s a reasonable possibility of a different head coach taking the court Friday against Memphis.
That being said, I think there’s zero chance we lose against Chi and NJ, so it’s likely moot.
Chi is not to be taken lightly, they are a playoff team

I ain't saying they're bad at all
Noah has been AWESOME to start the year. Actually awesome. He’s been their best player, which is crazy to think of since they got Rose, but it’s true.
Oden matches up extremely well with Noah though. We’re quite a bit more talented and our defense will look good again because they’re a bad offensive team… unless Rose explodes for the first time this year.

"Your best?!?!! Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and &^%@ the prom queen"
2008 Civil War: Oregon 65 - Oregon State 38
I seriously doubt that
He’s been with us for so long, and has more than earned the right to finish the season and the playoffs.
There's a point of declining returns though
If we win 60 games, he’s in. If the team comes off the rails and drops to 10 below .500, changes are almost mandatory before the end of the season. So where is the fine line between Nate being secure and scared?
This is all hypothetical, just like my original post. It’s very unlikely we won’t lose to both Chi and NJ, of course. And I seriously doubt the wheels come off this team as long as Brandon is here and interested. Just thinking out loud at the fine line involved in what would constitute cause for a midseason coaching change.
10 below .500, yeah, he's in trouble
Two bad losses in one week to teams we should beat would only get Nate and the team worried, not get him fired. Firing him after that would be silly…
NJ will be on second of back to back
something would have to go seriously wrong for us to lose that one.

the problem with ecstasy is that they take the MDMA and add other stuff into it. the purity of the ecstasy itself is unknown.

I hate smoking
Especially when people do it around me or when I’m forced to sit next to a smoker. A few of my relatives have disappointed me by being smokers. Props to you for being able to quit.

Seems like the point Apple is making is that if you're ruining your computer by smoking
it’s no different than stomping on it. You damage it yourself, it’s not covered by warranty. Fixing it for pay would likely be a different matter.
But I love you :-(
by Mortimer on Nov 19, 2009 7:04 PM PST
My guess is ultimately Apple will discover it's much more expensive to
fight the legal battle than it is to just fix the computers, and the issue will go away.
But I love you :-(

Ya know what? That is BS

I'm not saying I agree with the position
If I thought about it long enough, I probably wouldn’t. But working in insurance makes me think about denials in legal terms, and I can sort of see Apple’s point, even if I don’t agree with it.

well the tar in tobacco smoke does have a resinous quality that would perhaps cling to moving parts
but I would seriously doubt that it could be enough within the warranty period of the computer to make it fail.

I never said that. In fact I'm saying that I don't know how apple is going to prove that the smoke has actually contributed to the computer's failure.
I would say they could be dancing a thin line, that might lead to a class action lawsuit, because of this. The thing about smoking in the house was just an opinion of mine as someone who smoked for 19 years. It wasn’t me trying to impose my values, or infer that smokers don’t have rights to properly operating machinery that they paid for.

However...I am a smoker and my computer is at times exposed to minute smoke particles
among other things like skin particles and other dirt and dust. I do not live in a “Clean room” . I do in fact think this is bull crap (not by you all but in general). The only reason the Apple would do this is purely financial and the fact that they can get away with picking on smokers. We see it all the time ….look at just the last Blazer game ….I had to go out to the smoking balcony (which is fine ..no problem there). But did you know that because Oregon law recently changed we now have to stand 30’ feet from the door…..a closed glass door. 30’ from the door on the balcony is not covered….had to stand in the pouring rain (plus wind). There is a covered area but guess what…..it the part of the 30’ that is a the buffer ……so if someone is standing in any of the sheltered part …an attendant comes out and tells that person to get behind the line …back into the rain.

no, we had fun
it was just a strange night…when Juwan went in the 2nd, and GO/LMA sat…
we just looked at each other and said, this is not gonna turn out good.
plus, Warriors play rat ball…I mean, it’s tough to defend them when it’s touch and shoot.
The CROWD was DEAD in the first quarter, ooing and ahhing at GO…once the crowd got back into the game, Nate just stood there instead of calling a timeout or putting a big in to stop the bleeding…Once the crowd got into it, it was a runaway train…I mean, a super fast train…You can’t give rat-ballers more motivation than a crowd cheering them on.
And then of all things, we get kicked out of Oracle…then end up in some VIP hip/hop club in the SF that my friends told me to go to, and the Warriors all showed up…
it was fun though….it was sooo packed in that club that the Jewish guy with me probably had to confess to Rabbi Greenberg the next night that he accidentally touched about “100” female butts
lmao how did you get kicked out of Oracle?
and you took jake clubbing? nice haha

so we decided to move down to about 4 rows…then saw courtside avail and moved down to courtside.
they guy waved me off to leave…we didn’t so when they started resuming play, security told us to leave..hahaha
and they made us go through the VIP section by the locker room to leave…we met all the Warriors dancers then ran into the players family area then the players parking area…
seriously, it was weird…jake doesn’t lie so he can support my story here

Guidos - from the Urban Dictionary
A sad pathetic excuse for a male; not necessarily of Italian descent, but most likely; usually native to the New York/New Jersey Tri-State area.
WARDROBE: tight zipper shirts, tracksuits, designer jeans, fuzzy kangol hats, tiny hoop earrings, fake gold chains, and related Euro-trash garb and tacky cheese-wear.
NATURAL HABITAT: Known to frequent Tri-State area malls looking for club gear to waste their week’s pay on (most likely spotted shopping at “Bang Bang” in Staten Island). During the day when not at their food delivery, telemarketting, or construction job, can be located at their local gym tanning or lifting weights. Can be found nightly at mainstream danceclubs they read about online (SF, Webster Hall, Etc.). Most notable for cruising the Jersey shore in an old car (Honda, Mustang, etc.) which has been tinted, painted and sports $1,000-$3,000 rims in a feeble attempt to look like new. Guido cars usually have a boomin’ system through which cheesy music like freestyle, commercial club/trance and hip-hop (anything KTU plays) is loudly blasted.

the thing I hated about it was how no exception was allowed
I used to hang out in total dive bars, that would be made no more attractive to healthy people by the lack of cigarette smoke. Drinking in a bar late into the evening is generally not a healthy practice in it’s own right. It seemed like if everyone who worked in a bar smoked, and the majority of the patrons smoked, then why should a small minority dictate law for people who are completely okay with damaging their own health?

that sounds so insane. reminds me of that one Alabama receiver who broke his ankle in a game against Florida a couple years ago. Can’t remember his name, but he had a couple amazing catches in his time (the one that is always replayed is where he caught the ball on the defender’s back and pinned it).

Rules That Men Wish Women Knew
1. If you think you’re fat, you probably are. Don’t ask us.
2. Learn to work the toilet seat; if it’s up, put it down.
3. Don’t cut your hair. Ever.
4. Sometimes, we’re not thinking about you. Live with it.
5. Get rid of your cat.
6. Sunday = Sports.
7. Anything you wear is fine. Really.
8. Women wearing Wonder bras and low-cut blouses lose their right to complain about having their boobs stared at.
9. You have too many shoes.
10. Crying is blackmail.
11. Ask for what you want. Subtle hints don’t work.
12. Mark anniversaries on a calendar.
13. Peeing standing up is more difficult than peeing from point bank range. We’re bound to miss sometimes.
14. Yes and no are perfectly acceptable answers.
15. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem. See a doctor.
16. Don’t fake it. We’d rather be ineffective than deceived.
17. Anything we said six or eight months ago is inadmissible in an argument.
18. If you don’t dress like the Victoria’s Secret girls, don’t expect us to act like soap opera guys.
19. If something we said can be interpreted two ways, and one of the ways makes you sad and angry, we meant the other one.
20. Let us ogle. If we don’t look at other women, how can we know how pretty you are?
21. Don’t rub the lamp if you don’t want the genie to come out.
22. You can either ask us to do something OR tell us how you want it done – Not both.
23. Christopher Columbus didn’t need directions, and neither do we.
24. You have enough clothes.
25. Men are from earth; women are from earth. Deal with it.
26. Nothing says, “I love you” like sex.
You won.
