Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Warriors--Second Half
The evening is nearing the halfway point. Have the Warriors scored 70 yet? Did the Blazers come along for the ride? Continue the conversation below. Please be respectful of each other, stay mostly on topic, and as announced earlier in the week, posting of OR requests for streaming video links (outside of the legal and official ones the Blazers and the NBA put out) are not allowed at Blazersedge.

Yeah man
The substitution buzzers and some of Barrett’s particularly high notes
Things happen for a reason they say, but I say there's a reason things happen.
I want a plane ticket and a press pass
So I can ask nate after the game one question:
“Why didn’t LaMarcus Aldridge play in the second quarter?”
Things happen for a reason they say, but I say there's a reason things happen.
anyone else
wanna throw batteries at these refs
i have a couple AA's for the refs
and a car battery for nate
Word on the street is
Nate likes to be questioned by everyone in the NBA
Um- Aldridge? Oden?
Anyone? This 2 fouls and you sit is making me sick. Play them the first half we’re up by 20, game over and don’t need their 6 fouls in the second half
i think nate is trying to
teach his big men a lesson something that doesn’t make sense now but may pay dividends later, but it’s still pretty lame
I'm just coolin'

This is truly indefensible by Nate
at least take out Howard and his 18 turnovers
But he has veteren presence
That’s invaluable and doesn’t show up in the boxscore. Unlike all those turnovers.
Hmmmm……..
"What happened to Bayless anyway? Did he turn into a pumpkin? Most teams don’t just let #11 picks rot." - Xiane
I'll keep saying it till he does something to change my mind
This guy is just stubborn. And being stubborn will never make a good coach
The second half doesn't matter
if you’re up 20 in the first!!!!!!
Play your best players and keep the lead coach
God this is making me sick
The blazers are the worst good team I have ever seen. Come on guys!
"We Believe" - Rudy Fernandez
Two fouls and you sit.
In the meantime our team loses.

horrible lineups

I agree with TPfor3
Nate is being a stubborn coach. He just plain can’t see what’s wrong with his coaching morals… his rotations are ridiculous…

This is Nate's worst game yet.
LMA and Oden both sit with only 2 fouls?
Miller was killing and sat so Blake and Rudy can chuck the ball around the yard on the way to 10 turnovers for the quarter?
Horrible. Just horrible.
Joel and Juwan should never play together. It should be illegal.
and where is J-Bay? You’ve got a team happy to foul you and your best guy at drawing fouls may as well be selling pop corn.
Ridiculous.

I agree. I love Nate but...
that was just horrible. LMA, Brandon, Greg, and Miller all looked to have great games going. But when the home team got a run going he only played one of them.
Horrible.

You know what's sad?
Roy has to get a T in order for the refs to pay attention. Nate just stands on the side and let’s the W’s hack the crap out of him and says/does nothing. As a player, I would be pretty upset…at my coach.

Gotta wonder if Nate's got money on this game...
With the Warriors picked to win. I swear it’s like he is trying to lose this game..
Blazers are gonna win easy.
The sky is not falling
If the sky were falling
Nate would sub it out and put someone else in
It's not about winning or losing...
It’s about the way the game has been coached. It’s ridiculous.
by OmoriumVerum on Nov 20, 2009 8:49 PM PST up reply actions
Understood, but...
It’s also about getting a rhythm for your players and fine tuning your game. The Blazers have one on sheer talent, not because they look like a well run basketball team.
by OmoriumVerum on Nov 20, 2009 8:53 PM PST up reply actions
No matter how good or bad your team is
the game should never look as difficult as it does for the blazers. Even terrible teams make looking terrible easier.
Nate simply makes the game more difficult for the players
2 foul policy
might be most stupid idea ever, in the history of coaching.
does nate realize a player is allowed 6 before fouling out? does he really think Roy, LA, AND GO will all foul out at the end?
And it will cost him his job...
No relationship can prosper without trust. It’s as simple as that. Oden will be the first to stop listening, then LA, and eventually Roy will have to turn his back on his BFF. Then say goodbye to McMillan.
by OmoriumVerum on Nov 20, 2009 8:50 PM PST up reply actions
when have you seen the Blazers go in the tank and work their way out of it?
They’re young and they get on a roll of playing poorly and can’t get out of it. This is going to be a long second half
um?
never… sure they won games at the end… but once it started looking difficult, it never got easy later..
i wish Rudy wouldn't defer to other players so much
especially to the ones that can’t catch a pass.
by DefenderOfPants on Nov 20, 2009 8:49 PM PST reply actions

Whereas Blake is credited with only one turnover, but his decision making led to at least 5 or 6 of the TO’s credited to other players

Hmmm….well, hopefully another step towards coaching changes. Whether it happens internally or externally doesn’t matter to me, but we are handicapping our potential with the way Nate is controlling OUR Blazers. With the emphasis on OUR. Nate is trying to choke this team into his own without regard to the specific skillset of the roster.

The best thing to do against a team that doesn't play defense
is to play super slow and wait for them to stand in front of you. That way the game is always difficult and you ensure that you never get any easy baskets.
and now I'm subjected to a commercial featuring Kobe going 1 on 29?

That being said, it’s still a very winnable game. The pace alone makes comebacks much more likely.
True and true.
Forget the stats, forget the record — it’s about as meaningful as Sacramento’s record. This Blazer team is struggling and seems to be headed the wrong way.

thanks for the kind words. I was just going off of what you had said in May, as you hadn’t said much otherwise.
Do you plan to ever go back to CB?

If management decides to make improvements to what’s hitting for this Lincecum-Cain tandem…shudder.

And so shall be the highlight of my sports night
after an unpleasant Celtics loss to Orlando: Giants fan pessimism.
Thanks for keeping the Dodger view sunny, cloudy (see what I did there? Yeah, let’s both pretend it didn’t happen. It’s late in the East, I have no other excuse).

Yeah, without taking a shot at your fans,
is the crazy-pessimism level kinda the order of the day there?
I read TBLA a bit as well as several other Dodger blogs (MSTI and Dodger Thoughts are favorites), and while I don’t read MC regularly, there were a few references to some of the panicking there at times during the season – and on my couple of visits, there really did seem to be an insane amount of sky-is-falling type of stuff.
That said, when the sky was falling for us against Philly, there was probably plenty of the same on our boards.
Man, that pun was really, really bad earlier. Extra apologies for absorbing it.

haha yeah
no titles since the team has moved into your city will do that to ya. Especially with some extremely disappointing teams over the years (2002 World Series comes to mind)

It’s still on the table, let’s get it!

Just warning everyone in advance..
Even if we win this game, I am going to be terribly, terribly, upset.
and when xedubx gets upset
he gets flatulent. and it’s not pretty.

isolation posts are horrible offensive sets against quick teams
they can double way to fast
you have to get the post the player by reversing the ball and back screening
Layup, dunk, layup, dunk dunk
not really
both coaches have done an equally terrible job tonight

Is like the Lakers in Portland for some reason, just have so much trouble winning.

look at our schedule
even after losing tonite we have a bunny schedule until mid-december. the blazers are going to look like a good team until the week of December 17th.
we really won’t know anything until then. right now i think skeptical is too optimistic for how i feel.
i can’t see this team beating a good team on the road and i wouldn’t even feel great about them at home. good thing we don’t have to play any good teams for while.
That's why I don't like Nate's 'stick with it until it fails' strategy
we should be trying different things so we’re firing on all cylinders when we get to that stretch
Your confusing thesis has captured my attention. Tell me more.

i can't agree
there just isn’t a better 5 man lineup right now. martell is awful, batum is hurt and with outlaw hurt you have no bench if you move rudy into the starting lineup.
people people im telling u brandon roy is not as good as we think he is….he isnt this year that is.his game has comlpetely changed he settles for tooo many jumpers and when was the last time you saw him cross a guy and get past him.that last play when he chucked up the three shows that he isnt comfortable trying to dribble anymore

that’s true. i’m not sure what to make of it but it’s not like that last 3 years didn’t happen.

He's looked worse at times this season than he ever looked last season
that I agree with
then again the league adjusts at a speed that I don’t think Nate can match

Painful
I get to watch the Blazers rarely living in NorCal. And somehow what what should be an automatic win ends up in games like this and I hear it from Warrior fans for the next month.
First: anyone miss Outlaw? All you guys that btch about him 24/7: real what you sow.
Second: bench Blake. Martell needs to start to get his rhythm back. We r going to need him for the next 3-5 months in a big way.
