Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

You Know Whats Not Cool?

The Jazz have the Knicks pick for the 2010 nba draft.  How, pray tell?  By way of a Tom Gugliotta trade thru picks received in the Marbury trade.

I just dont like the jazz and the fact that they might luck out getting a top 5 pick irks me.  They can utilize it by taking D Favors or package it cuz they dont want to take John Wall.  This could mean a MAJOR acquisition, and no one wants that to happen, not even Peter Criss (family guy reference).

Ive had just about enough of them winning a lot of games every year in the reg. season and it never amounts to anything, and now that might change.  i hope Greg gets it goin big time as time goes by.

Knicks win about 33 games

Pick is #8. They’ll get a nice player, but not a franchise player.

Peter Criss is a KISS reference

at least for me.

Go Knicks!

put a body on 'em

it was a modified quote, not just his name.

in the episode, Peter says, “no one wants to be Peter Criss, not even Peter Criss.”

For me, not cool looks more like ...

… whining about another team (there is a Lakers exception to this – as long as it isn’t over used) particularly when it is something that is out of our control.

So what if the Jazz have an extra pick in next years draft? How is complaining about that any different from the people who bashed Portland when they managed to get Aldridge and Roy in the same draft, or landed Oden the next year, bought a pick that turned into Rudy and drafted Nic Batum. Every now and then the good luck fairy flies overhead and sprinkles magic fairy dust. Begrudging when it happens to others is bad karma. When next the fairy flies above us and we get pissed on, we will know who to blame.

PS – I thought the whole point of making a reference was to see who gets it. If you have to tell people right as you make it, then it probably isn’t that good of a reference.

first off, i dont understand the hostility.

second, i think its funny that ur whining about my “whining,” which i wasnt.

third, i wasnt necessarily just saying oh this sucks. i was trying, whether u perceived it or not, to inform people of the situation. maybe some people dont know of this and are as intrigued by it as i am. the improbability of this is so much greater than the blazer situations u posed, so i would give other examples. to me, its funny and crazy because the knicks wanted to improve their team getting marbury, which he destroyed the franchise. then, the resulting ineptitude will not even be rewarded with a high pick because the pick they just threw into the deal were not used for five damn years. u think a franchise goes into a situation thinking o we wont use our pick we got in a throw in deal for a player at the end of his career for many seasons hoping that the original team we got the pick from wont be good and maybe or maybe we benefit by getting a high pick. and that original team, the knicks not only are lacking a high pick, but that person they could have got in the 2010 draft might have been an additional lure for a big free agent (lebron, wade, bosh, amare, etc). so they ruined their franchise getting marbury and ruined their future (possibly) by not being attractive enough for a big star to sign. the variable is whether or not they still would be that bad, which i think they would have. and who knows maybe Dantoni doesnt sign there if it werent for the possibility of big free agents cuz the players love him. so the system installed inflates their wins and they might have been even worse, almost guaranteeing a higher pick. so i view that as pretty awesome and crazy and funny.

im sorry if u dont find it as interesting as i do, but good lord why such a reaction?

and finally, i thought my reference might be a little esoteric (yet ANOTHER family guy reference. "this guy sucks because he actually says its a reference and wasnt sure if anyone would get it becuase its specific). i figured people might get and some might not, me saying it is a reference would not dilute it because it wasnt a big deal in the first place

i guess my cyber-inflection was wrong or my choice of words with “uncool” was wrong. jeez.

I liked your reference ...

and wouldn’t have got it cause I don’t watch Family Guy. I still don’t get what it means.

Don’t mind timg56. His posts are typically curmudgeonesque.

No hostility ...

… just pointing out what I think is uncool. If you really want to draw our attention to the fact that Utah has New York’s 1st round pick next draft and discuss what potential ramifications this could mean for Utah, then state it that way, rather than let us all know how much you can’t stand the Jazz. Taking a second look at the post, the only positive statement you make that is discussable is the one pointing out what they might be able to do with it. But that point is lost is the whining. Too bad, because it could have been an interesting topic.

btw – bfan is right about the curmdgeonesque part with regard to my comments on use of obscure references. That really wasn’t about you so much as a general nit of mine about their use. I don’t see the point if you have to tell everyone up front. If people don’t get it, they can ask. I’ve always thought that was the whole point in using obscure references.

its not whining

do u not have personal biases? i dont like the jazz and wouldnt mind if the Hornets or some other team had the pick. i was just stating that fact. the possibilities that the Jazz have with it are endless if it comes to fruition, thats why i HINTED at them by saying they could taking a prospect like Derrick Favors to have a talented 4 for Deron to grow old with. they then could let boozer sign somewhere else and have some takers for Millsap or whomever. or if they get number one overall, they could package it with an expiring like AK47 and acquire big time talent. since the options they have, again if this plays out in their favor, are limitless. and this could mean trouble for the blazers playing in the northwest division which is why i said i hoped Oden progresses favorably so by that time it wont even matter.

not everything should be spelled out all the time; intimation can lead to ur own thoughts if ur intrigued by the subject matter.

The only thing worse than KISS is Seth McFarlane

I think it’s not cool that other teams are allowed to trade.
Only the Blazers should be allowed to trade.

And yes, I understand that means that the Blazers can’t trade with anyone because that would mean another team is also trading. It’s the intent that counts.

I like the direction of this ...

… but believe you don’t take it far enough.

For example I think it’s not cool that the Blazers can get called for fouls. I think only the other team should be eligible for foul calls.

And what’s with this new rule that says you can’t have 6 guys on the court? That is clearly a discriminatory action against the Blazers. And we all know how uncool discrimination is.

And finally, I think it is totally uncool that my neighbor (he lives right across the lake from me) gets to travel down to Portland (not to mention all the away games) to attend Blazer games while I don’t. I mean, why is it Paul Allen can afford to do this and I can’t? At the very least he can invite me over to his place to watch the games on tv.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
