Tough act to follow junk Nov.19
The last few Junk Drawers have been classic
I have nothing even remotely that clever to offer but over 2000 comments is over 2000 comments and somebody has to do it.In a preview of my announcer ratings i have the Bucks,Pistons,Clips and NY crews near the top,the Celtics,Hornets,Jazz and Thunder guys are the worst. As far as network guys,Hubie is the best,Reggie Miller is the worst and Eric Snow is the best studio analysis guy.Any thoughts or input?

I LOVE Hubie
Reggie Miller makes me angry I ever liked him as a player. Good lord, I worry about all of America when I listen to Reggie talk… and that he is gainfully employed to TALK as his job.
I know
That was his thing back when he was playing. Reggie was known for yapping his trap all up and down the court. Now that we actually hear it, he sounds lame.
I get the paper, so I don't care!
Yup
That’s why he was hired, like Barkley he was known as a good quote, a trash talker, a funny guy… but he’s the total opposite. He is awful.
AND he clearly does not know the NBA, and hardly seems to know the game of basketball. He is an idiot.
I don’t get why ESPN and TNT hire idiots sometimes. Why can’t Calabro, Hubie, Marv, The Czar, and The Snapper just announce every game? I always hated Bill Walton growing up (didn’t know him as a player, only as an awful announcer) but having him as a release for The Snapper would be fine too.
I loved Bill Walton commentating.
it was hilarious. as long as you don’t care about stuff making sense just listening to him talk was great. Like watching a game with a buddy, which is what i look for in a commentator. Probably why I like JVG.

yeah.
mostly i just don’t like guys who tell me what to think about the game or why something is great or bad or whatever. i like conversational commentary from a color guy. There are so few good analysts that I mostly wish they’d leave that part out. haha

I dislike Doug Collins
He tells stories that are often untrue and had been established and proven as untrue. But I’ll take him 10 times out of 10 over most dumb former players.
i agree.

With Collins, there's actually a chance you'll learn something about basketball
Hubie would be better if his voice wasn’t so annoying and he didn’t say “now Mike, come on…” 100 times a quarter.
I think the total opposite
Hubie is more educational to me and doesn’t tell stories that are lies all the time.
I agree that Hubie is more educational.
Like I say, Hubie would be better than Collins if he didn’t say “come on” every 2 seconds. That literally ruins Hubie for me. SO annoying.
I don't even notice
Now I will notice each time he says it, of course.
Don’t ruin Hubie for me Jake… don’t! He’s all I got.
Hubie is incredible. My favorite part is that he talks in second-person narrative almost entirely.

The only thing possibly better than the Walton and Snapper dynamic when they broadcasted together
was the Walton and Tolbert broadcasting team. The just couldn’t get along…

I remember Walton asking Tolbert how many ASGs he’d made in his “illustrious career” and then Tolbert parrying with a thinly veiled drug reference. Awesome TV

The Cavs announcers should eventually join that bottom group.
Good to see you recognized the outstanding announcers for the Clippers.
I likes em
Though, I bring this up each time they come up, them saying Oden had short arms sticks in my craw sumthin’ fierce.
They're huge Portland homers though
They give the Mikes a run for their money in their Portland love.
Haha
They’re hopping into the bed from each young team to the other.
Just wait till we play them though, they’ll be schlurping the Pinwheel nice.
they don’t like Oden though. “He’s good for one of those a game, but he moves like an aircraft carrier. You know something else? i bet Aldridge, though shorter, is way longer than Oden. Length matters, and Oden doesn’t have it.”
i cry for nic
That Aldridge 15-footer is looking sweet.
Always has, but it feels like it’s becoming more consistent.
Romance me with that Roy rainbow shot which took flight from way beyond the arc and sailed so high that before it came back down to earth sealing the victory, it kissed the rafters and said "You're mine baby."
Thus far this season, LaMarcus Aldridge's eFG% on jumpers is a piss-poor 40.4%.
I know that many people believe Aldridge’s mid-range jumper has smooth form and a pretty release, but it’s nevertheless an extremely inefficient shot—there’s no denying it. Unfortunately, though, those jumpers have currently made up 68% of his field-goal attempts this season.
Dear Paul Allen:
Fire Nate McMillan & hire Jeff Van Gundy.
Sincerely,
AK1984
Yes. But that jumper alone has won a couple games already.
You don’t think he’s getting more consistent??? I haven’t pulled any stats but it’s not making me as nervous as last year. It has a better look to it.
Last year I felt I was watching a skinny Zbo at times.
Romance me with that Roy rainbow shot which took flight from way beyond the arc and sailed so high that before it came back down to earth sealing the victory, it kissed the rafters and said "You're mine baby."
Oh, and no doubt he’s had a couple bad games this year.
That’s going to pull his percentage down. I’m going on gut feel, I think those ugly games are getting fewer. I’ll have to pull the stats when I’m not at work.
Romance me with that Roy rainbow shot which took flight from way beyond the arc and sailed so high that before it came back down to earth sealing the victory, it kissed the rafters and said "You're mine baby."
Here's the numbers.
http://www.82games.com/0910/09POR9.HTM
I realize that numerous folks find LaMarcus Aldridge’s mid-range jumper to be aesthetically beautiful or some such nonsense, but it’s an inefficient field-goal attempt. That is, was, and always will be the case.
Dear Paul Allen:
Fire Nate McMillan & hire Jeff Van Gundy.
Sincerely,
AK1984
he is the recipient of a large number of flaming bag passes. Steve’s staple is the awkward pick n pop at the end of the shot clock.

I actually think it's a benefit that LMA is focusing/developing
a mid range game. When GO becomes dominant down low, this opens up our spacing/offense.
Granted, right now I love to see LMA down on the blocks more, but I don’t fault him for sticking to his game. As long as he doesn’t abandon his low post game.
Fewer fade-aways and more 10 feet curl shots would be better though
he’s plain inefficient from midrange right now though. I’d rather him jack threes than throw up those silly 18-20 footers.
i cry for nic
by Cablinasian on Nov 19, 2009 11:56 PM PST up reply actions
yeah but we can't have him abandon it
and say, low post or just threes….Free-throw extended is where he needs to work. 17-19ft. from 19 to 23 is a big difference in terms of spacing
He needs to watch KG more…that is the balance he needs…15 footers balance with a heavy face up attack spin move
he doesn’t have a quick first step. That’s what just kills him.
i cry for nic
by Cablinasian on Nov 20, 2009 12:02 AM PST up reply actions
it's not bad, he just has weak handles...
especially his left hand…he’s really bad dribbling to the left for more than 2 dribbles
That's true, long two's are the most inneficient shot in basketball...
but he evens it out by making nearly 70% of the rest of his shot. He is shooting 49% overall. I wish it was more like a 60/40 split, because that would likely put him over 50%. Plus, you have to consider the benefits to his teammates simply because he is able to hit 20 footers and he drags an opposing big out of the paint and onto the perimeter.
RUDY > MJ
Is there’s some cool button, or perhaps another link
where I can get that same/similar info game by game? i.e. all games on the same page.
I always have to pull each game separate which takes me for ever.

so did I read right? Nate wants andre to spend more time with the second unit?

I would give it all up for a billion dollars
Sadly it makes some sense because Rudy is the only bench scoring we have and he plays better with Dre
Having said that I doubt there is another team in the league that would start Blake in front of him
by southern oregon on Nov 19, 2009 9:42 PM PST up reply actions
Originally I hoped the rotation would be something like that
Blake at the SG/SF has thrown a wrench into what I thought would happen, but basically it’s this—
Start Miller and Roy, sub Miller out earlier than the others and bring Blake in, when Roy goes out bring Miller back in to be with the 2nd unit.
You always have a good playmaker on the floor in that sort of rotation.
With Blake's time only/mostly with Roy
And Miller always on the floor when Roy isn’t. And then play them together as both are fresh.
Makes perfect sense.
This is exactly what I expected to start the season...
and a big reason why I was in favor of Blake starting. Now, I want to see this in a combination of less minutes for Blake, and more for Miller and Rudy…
RUDY > MJ
damnit Nate
Miller is easily 10x the player Blake is, the faster we get away from this 3 guard offense the faster we start going on win streaks. Losing trav hurt tho. Our second unit cant score on their own

when he goes 0-4 from the line, or when he tees up one of those flat-footed jumpers that were out of style by the time I played, fer cryin’ out loud. He looks like Larry Costello shooting set shots out there.
He’s great in an uptempo atmosphere. Eventually, he’ll be the starter over Blake but the team is not at that point yet. – Elgin
Travis Outlaw, the Funnel Cake of the Blazers
I feel it
he cant shoot as well true, but he is a better ballhandler, better passer, better scorer on the block, and he does things that frankly blake wouldnt even think to do

Is he the dude who keeps finding the hidden immunity idols?
I haven’t paid attention at all this season. Might have to go back and watch it all through torrents or something.

Kobe has Brandon beat in feeding the big man. Dang, he gives Bynum 2-3 easy hoops per game.
Also, Pau Gasol is incredible.
i cry for nic
Kobe has Brandon beat by 10 years NBA Experience
plus another 5+ years of playing with a dominant big man.
B Roy will get there.

besides
I like knowing that Brandon, as great as he is already, still has a bunch of areas that he can improve on. He can only get better from here, which is pretty amazing considering how good he is already.

Actually the guys I expected to improve the most[Nic is excused]
Greg and Rudy are both playing better and I expect them to improve quite a bit more by the end of the season,Roy and LMA have in no way hit their ceiling,

It's Roy's fault Sergio was traded!
Roy can’t play with Sergio

He obviously put some thought into it
so I really can’t hate on him, even though I think his opinions are extremely misguided.

Yeah, when I clicked on it I was expecting a fanpost that barely meets the 75 word minimum.

we have an alleged rivalry with Hoopus, though I like them. Phoenix Stan calls Oden a bust, as does ClipperSteve.

security guys at opposing arenas are richards when it comes to visiting teams bringing in signs
but they would be the biggest richard if they tear up my “Get Well Paul Allen” sign, the other ones…I can see why they would rip them

"Aneurysm".
When Outlaw wins a game on a last-second shot, it’s called an "annthefaneurysm". QualityPie
