How would Ellis fit?
There is an excellent chance that the Warriors will be looking to trade Monta Ellis sometime in the near future. It's hard to anticipate what their front office would want in return since it seems to be absolute chaos over there since Chris Mullen was forced out. However, would Ellis be a good fit as the starting PG for the Blazers? I've been thinking about this for the last couple of days, and I figured that BE is probably the best place for the discussion. His salary is $11M per year I believe. By late December, we will have some pieces that would definitely work from the financial end. I don't know what the Warriors would want concerning talent.

We already have Bayless
Why pay his clone 10 times more money?

Because he's ten times better.
Ellis has a terrific mid range game. One of the best in the league.

Shoots an insane percentage his last healthy year
Very good and exciting offensive player.
However, a HORRIBLE defensive player. And I wonder if he’d like being a 3rd/4th option, or throwing the ball into Oden all day.
For that much I’d like a more-perfect fit, though in general I don’t mind paying guys a ton now since cap space land is over.
The Bayless Theory is founded upon a more thinkings-man Monta, but with defense. Not as good offense, but actually being able to defend anyone at some point in his career.
Even with out struggles offensively early on this year, and our good stats on defense, I don’t worry about our team on offense and still want to shore up our defense. Especially on the perimeter.
Mortimer
I wouldn't want him.
Especially for this team, but I don’t think you can call him a Bayless clone. He does everything better than Bayless except possibly defense, which is important obviously, especially for this team.
My point is, Monta is pretty much a billion times better than Bayless at this point, but maybe not for the Blazers.

He isn't ten times better, not even his shooting
Bayless has a long way to go before he reaches his potential. Plus Ellis’ attitude stinks and his contract would cripple us.

His shooting is WAY better than Bayless.
He has an incredible midrange game. He’s one of 9 guards in NBA history to shoot 60% from the field in a single month. He doesn’t have a great outside shot, although he is currently averaging 50% from distance.

I can find stats
that show that Bayless is a lights out shooter as well. The comparison is really invalid since Bayless doesn’t get any minutes.

No, you can't
I’d love for the guy to succeed, but unless you’re pulling meaningless college and HS stats, there are simply no stats to show Bayless has had any remarkable success as a shooter. Let’s keep things in perspective here.
That's because there are no stats that show that.
Bayless has been a poor shooter in NBA games, which is all that matters. If he was a great shooter he would be on the court a ton, it’s really the only thing holding him back right now.
In 707 minutes, Bayless is shooting 38.2% on 207 attempts.

If we add anyone.
It should be a big, big person.
Although Monta Ellis would fit our injury team.
Ellis – Moped.
Oden – DDR.
Bayless – Carpet.

In theory Ellis would fit until I read this at Draft Express.
True this was before he was drafted and he could have changed, but I doubt it.
“His intangibles are also somewhat questionable. Ellis has consistently shown a poor attitude and immaturity, pouting when things don’t go his way or when the ball isn’t in his hands for more than 5 seconds. He refused to shake anyone’s hand at the end of the McDonalds game, because he was mad at his coach for not giving him more minutes at the PG spot (see links). His body language on the court looks very poor at times, while his quotes in the media make him look like an extremely cocky and arrogant young man. If he’s already so full of himself at this point, when basically no one outside of NBA draft circles and Mississippi State fans knows his name, what’s he going to be like in 5 years? "

I don’t think he’s even close to a Nate type of player.
He's a headcase
I think he fits in next to Roy because he can score without having his hand on the ball all the time, and while he’s not what I describe as a good defensive player, he does get steals. However, the negatives outweigh the positives in this case.
How old is that?
Wasn’t that like 4 years ago?

What, you actually changed from the person you were when you were 17/18?
I am still exactly the same.

Trade players for picks and draft Cole Aldrich 2010

Trade Drawer
I think a percentage of Outlaws contract will be covered by Insurace which makes him valuable to a team looking to shed salary like New Orleans, we could trade Outlaw straight up for Darius Songalia. I know a healthy Outlaw is worth more then just Darius but Outlaws not healthy and we could use depth. what do you think?

Quick was saying today that Ellis is one of only six
players in the league to average 20ppg, 5 reb, an 4 assists. The others were Lebron, Iguoala, Kobe, Roy, and Jennings.

The problem is
4 assists as the PG in the up tempo Warriors system isn’t all that great.
He has a very nice mid range game and finishes as good as anyone. Tony Parker-esque in that way.
He’s a scoring guard, which can work next to Roy, but like I mentioned above… his defense… ooph.
Unless it has magically changed this season, he was amongst the worst defenders in the entire league previously. He would possibly be available though, and could be a very nice “get” for the right team.

The problem with Monta Ellis is that he's a shooting guard rather than an off guard, which is clear ...
as day when looking at his 26.0% usage percentage. Alongside Brandon Roy, you want an off guard with three-point range — so as to spread the floor — who keeps his usage percentage at about 20.0%. So, even when ignoring Ellis’ porous defense, he isn’t even the right backcourt fit with Roy offensively.

Nonsense.
Ellis worked perfectly fine next to Baron Davis, who needs the ball just as much as Roy if not more. There are plenty of reasons to be against bringing in Monta Ellis, but on offense he would be fine next to Roy.
He’s an awful defender and overpaid, but his offense is great.

Except from deep
He takes about 1 three per game, as he should shooting something around 30%. We essentially have that type of player in Miller, who can also draw fouls and finish around the rim. Not quite as good as Monta, but he brings better playmaking skills and maybe even better defensive skills though they aren’t amazing by any means.
If we could essentially just swap those two that would be a thing to consider since Monta is young, but I wouldn’t bundle a big package to get him.
Ceterum censeo Lakers esse delendam
Neither would I.
Miller is actually much better at drawing fouls.
Ellis is better at shooting midrange two’s. He’s also shooting 50% from the arc this season, so it’s possible that his shot is improving.

Monta Ellis is too high usage, too inefficient from deep, and too weak on defense to play with Brandon Roy.

I wondered that too
I’ve been thinking about starting a fan post asking why AK loves Monta so much.
"Woulda, Coulda, Mighta and Shoulda – the Four Horsemen of the Procrastocalypse" - Red-5
It's borderline obsessive.
AK, Monta is under contract for the Warriors, give it a rest until we know he’s available, ya know?
M—
As if that ever mattered to AK
What gets me is he doesn’t even talk about Kirk anymore, it’s all Monta.
"Woulda, Coulda, Mighta and Shoulda – the Four Horsemen of the Procrastocalypse" - Red-5
Blasphemy!
All kidding aside, though, I do tend to hate a lot of players, which is why when I like someone — such as Kirk Hinrich — I promote the heck out of ’em.

Perhaps he is just cranky with the current state of affairs of the Dubs,
but the quotes I have read kinda made me think, “um, no thanks.” He evinced a lack of interest in leadership, in stepping up his production, in much of anything really.
Of course, I also don’t know the circumstances under which the interview took place—after a loss?—but Mr. Ellis did not come off well at all in this ContraCostaTimes.com article: link
I have enjoyed watching his offense, but I agree that his defense is less than stellar.
Ellis is lame
Wrecked a scooter, covered it up and lied about it, the team could have penalized him and took some money away, so to repay them for that, he grumbled for a trade.
It's like he doesn't always make the best decisions or something crazy like that
I know we all don’t think that could be true, BUT HEAR ME OUT.

Interesting thought but upon further review I'll pass
Mostly for the same reasons AK pointed out above

kirk heinrich
is my dream. bayless cant even dribble and monta lets just say he’d have trouble adjusting here after playing in that GS system.
