Oden has looked ok

Made a few shots, missed a few, not as many minutes played as we’d like, but has altered lots of shots. He’s done stuff that won’t show up in a box score or in a Bill Simmons column.

He's mostly altering shots

Not a lot that goes on the box score. But it’s tough for Detroit to go to the rim while he’s in

Well he gets to help off of Big Ben a lot but that sets him up for trouble with the little quick ones like Bynum and Stuckey. However he has done a decent job of tracking them and got some nice stops early on.

Against a better (and more rested) team, Portland would probably be down by 10 or more.

But that’s partially because they’re probably still recovering from the road trip. Also, of course, we haven’t seen them against a good team in a bit.

Pistons are a bad team, and if the Blazers can't beat them at home on a back-to-back, they are in SERIOUS trouble this year.

NFL drafts are even more of a guessing game than NBA drafts

Look at what round some of the biggest QB’s were drafted in. For every Manning or Brees, there’s a Leaf or a Russell.

by Timmay! on Nov 18, 2009 8:21 PM PST up reply actions

i would disagree

i think it’s much easier to draft in the nfl and there are more chances to get good players. i recently wiki’ed every nba draft, one of things that struck me was how many first rounders i don’t think are even in the league anymore

But how do they break this cycle? Where’s the problem?

by Timmay! on Nov 18, 2009 9:10 PM PST up reply actions

For one thing the only guy in the right now to stretch the D is Rudy. Miller holding the ball for 10 seconds is just wasted time and makes us rush.

Your confusing thesis has captured my attention. Tell me more.

by terryisntbald on Nov 18, 2009 9:11 PM PST up reply actions

Blazers can't run their offense.

Their offense runs through the high post where the power forward and centers are required to make decisions. Pressure defense disrupts the timing and passing lanes. Blazers start to choke and forced to make isolations against the shot clock.

"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith

by blzrfan on Nov 18, 2009 9:14 PM PST up reply actions

So if the end result is an iso with 10 left

why don’t we put Roy at the point and just start with an iso? Blake has lost his clutchness and Miller can’t play off Roy so they can double off both them.

Your confusing thesis has captured my attention. Tell me more.

by terryisntbald on Nov 18, 2009 9:15 PM PST up reply actions

That's what Nate typically does in the 4th quarter.

Make Roy the PG and allow Roy to isolate at the top.

by terryisntbald on Nov 18, 2009 9:20 PM PST up reply actions

No, Blake made terrible decisions with the ball.

Most of the run came with Blake/Rudy together. Then Blake continued to make bad plays. Miller ran PG for like 2 possessions in the 4th.

Unable to watch

Decided to drop in, check out the comments, try and get a feel for what’s been going on.

After reading timbo’s comments, I concluded the Blazers were losing by 30 and were headed to an 0-13 start to the season.

But judging by LaMarvelous’ post, I’d be tempted to think that every Blazer was a prospective all-star – at least if exclamation points counted as votes.

Too confusing for me – guess I better head over to nba.com to find out what the score is.

Blazers are choking a 20 point lead to one of the lottery teams from the east on their back-to-back in the Blazers' building.

Nuff sed.

Rodney Stuckey is grossly overhyped, but Joe Dumars loves him; also, he'd be a 2 in Nate's offense, ...

which is a position that’s currently held down by the team’s main franchise cornerstone, Brandon Roy, so scratch that idea.

Fire Nate McMillan & hire Jeff Van Gundy.

Over hyped by who? Just because they got rid of Billups doesn’t mean they thought Stuckey could walk on water. Sure he had a decent rookie year but they’ve already brought in Bynum who could challenge for the starting position soon. Stuckey is only over hyped in this thread.

The difference between Outlaw and Blake

is Outlaw’s “what the ####?” plays don’t come during the most crucial moments of the game.

Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Rudy, Batum, Outlaw, Webster, Bayless, Blake, Miller, Joel... Holy crap!

Outlaw is either cols or hot,

But Blake chokes in the 4th quarter in there is pressure on him. He kind off coverd his mistakes with that late 3.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

I meant Outlaw is either cold or hot.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

yep

true of about 98% of the league, the other 2% being continually cold and playing overseas next year

Travis Outlaw, who's overrated beyond belief, is inconsistent at a variety of times.

Dear Paul Allen:

Fire Nate McMillan & hire Jeff Van Gundy.

Sincerely,

That he does not believe that Outlaw is overrated, cuz it beyond belief.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

the whole team is inconsistent,so they are overrated.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

I honestly can't wait for the Allstar Break for us to make some real changes.

Are we even practicing? I feel as if we aren’t. Too many games in too little time or what?

by dpnim on Nov 18, 2009 9:39 PM PST reply actions

We looked good for 3 quarters.

And the same thing happened to the lakers last night against these pistons.

Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Rudy, Batum, Outlaw, Webster, Bayless, Blake, Miller, Joel... Holy crap!

by axel360 on Nov 18, 2009 9:41 PM PST reply actions

I would like a change

Don’t care what at this point, just a change because winning like this is not sustainable and there is definitely some complacency issues with this team.

What going on atm isn’t much fun. Didn’t even get much joy out of the win streak….

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
