Fire Bill Simmons.
"Ultimately, should we forgive Simmons for his oversight, for his incorrect statement about Portlanders loving his book more than anyone and for potentially the worst typo of all time?" No. He is not even worth the 30 seconds I took to type this. ESPN: Fire Bill Simmons. Just put those 3 little words and nothing more in the comments section of his ESPN articles. That is all.

ESPN is laughing all the way to the Disney bank account. So is Simmons.

I'm all for this irrational anger.
But you are going to be much more effective by just ignoring the guy. Typing “Fire Bill Simmons” still raises his hit count, plus controversy sells.
Give him as much attention as you give the TV show “Barney” and he will stop bothering you. Either because he stops getting attention, or because you never read it anyway.
*Unless KP has a secret plan that makes this statement incorrect.

I agree with don't feed troll whose initials are BS.
Maybe if enough people gave him the total lack of attention that he so richly deserves he would be forced into moving back into the basement at his mother’s house – where he belongs.

This is crazy.
Typo? Do you realize his book is 736 pages long? Goodness gracious. The fact that we as fans are so oversensitive to every little perceived slight says a whole lot more about our own insecurities then it does about Bill Simmons. Is it possible that every time he says something bad about Oden it bugs us because it reminds us of our own doubts?
Bill Simmons is smart, entertaining, and has a great sense of humor. Who cares if he doesn’t think Oden is super duper amazing. Until Oden proves otherwise, Simmons isn’t exactly going out on a limb by questioning his worth.
I’m going to his book signing and I’m going to smile, shake his hand, and then apologize that Blazer fans are such babies about everything.

I went to Simmons' book signing in Seattle tonight.
Got to talk Blazers with him for a little bit. He said he’s going to the game tomorrow night and thinks we’ll beat Detroit. I told him that I hope he gets to see the “35 minutes and beastly” Oden, not the “fouls out in 15” Oden. He chuckled and told me that it’s a coin-flip at this point, but that Oden has looked good recently. Also, he said that he hopes Oden does well. Actually, he said that twice: “I hope he does well.”
Most importantly: He wrote “Go Blazers!” in my book. Can’t beat that.

How was the turnout?
I thought about going, but that would involve buying his book…To which, I said “Pffft!”

It was PACKED.
My wife and I got there around 4 for the signing at 7, and there were already people there. It took us about 45 minutes to get through the line. The line stretched all the way through the restaurant, out through the lobby, wound around this lounge area, and then went all the way around the restaurant and out about half a block outside.

Simmons is great.
Let’s get over ourselves and enjoy his writing. He is not out to get Portland, I promise.

agreed.
Everyone just calm down. Fire him? haha..
"There are a lot of computers in Portland and a lot of people with time on their hands, or who are passionate enough about their Blazers to make time. After several years of writing about basketball on fake paper, that's a conclusion I will fight to the death to defend. It's a small city, and yet no fanbase so passionately and so adroitly makes its presence felt in this sphere." Word.

agreed.
the overreacting from Portland is just out of control, and I say that as a relative new (past 2 seasons) fan. Unlike any other city I’ve ever been in. Panic about the season less than 10 games in, fire the Sports Guy, LOL… get a grip!!! ;^)
Hoping to see Bill at the game tonight, and definitely hoping for a monster Oden game!!!

Don't worry about it.
Honestly, deep down he knows Portland is a monster-in-waiting. He also knows we’re a super sensitive fan base that’s also receptive to bating. It’s just like everyone ripping on Utah because no one wants to live there, etc. Look at it this way: players and teams love playing like they’re the underdog or that they get no respect. I should think the Blazers and Oden would thrive on this.

I met him last night in Seattle
…. he asked me whose jersey I was wearing (Portland 52) and I told him Oden. He nodded and said that he’s doing well this year, commented on Portland’s effective use of the three-guard lineup, and wrote “Go Blazers” in my book. I tried to tease him about being a Blazer hater and he was very quick to deny it, and say that he wants them to do well.

This is not a guy who watches a lot of Blazer games.
I watch every Blazer game, but I can’t tell you O.J. Mayo’s jersey number.

Bill Simmons minimizes the talent on my favorite pro sports team
He is a hater.
That wouldn’t be tragic if haters like Bill Simmons didn’t have the effect they do on how our players are perceived, and THUS how the refs call the game on the court.
Boo.

"They (Blazers) have the most overrated talent in the NBA."
-Bill Simmons
I paraphrased but I think that’s pretty close.
Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Rudy, Batum, Outlaw, Webster, Bayless, Blake, Miller, Joel... Holy crap!

next time you paraphrase someone from memory, avoid using quotes.

Not being nitpicky, but when you're putting words into someone's mouth, you should back it up.
