I guess we were right about Blake after all
He once again proved that he:
1. Understands team concepts on both offense and defense.
2. Is a good shooter when he's wide open, is able to set his feet, and free of pressure.
3. Is able to make the appropriate pass in most situations.
4. Doesn't try to do too much most of the time.
5. Has no ability to make a big shot under pressure.
I think it's pretty clear he's a solid backup point, and should be playing 15-20 minutes a game on a good team. He should not be used at the end of close games, as he has shown time and time again the uncanny ability to miss easy shots and make stupid mistakes down the stretch.
He's dead to me.

Okay, I was all right with the first part of this post
But he’s dead to you? Really? So he didn’t make a few shots at the end of the game, and you’re really saying this about him? It’s one game. Blake has time and again hit big shots for us at the end of games.
Mark my words... Dante Cunningham will be an all star
I'm just frustrated
When has he done anything at the end of games? I remember him blowing the Clippers game last year, disappearing in the close games against Houston, and then tonight was classic, because he had a great 3 quarters and just fell apart at the end.
Come on...
You are focusing in on a guy’s failures and not giving any credit where credit is due. I can name at least two games when Blake hit huge threes down the stretch. Last year against the Celtics in Portland (without Roy on the floor) and against the Lakers in the second home game. He also hit big shots in Game 5 against Houston last year but no one remembers that game.
I guess Blake is becoming the Jack of this years team.

Hilarious!
The guy missed some free throws a year ago, and we keep going back to that. Oden missed some that could have won the game against the Nuggets, and Roy has missed some too with games on the line, but Blake does it once and it’s unforgettable! This is half the people on BE in essence. It’s called tunnel vision folks, you might want to see you eye doctor.
In Toronto a year ago
he hit a game winning 3. Created off the dribble, pulled up, and nailed it.
If you want to drag out the Clips game, someone can always drag out the Raptors. So why don’t we just drop both of them.

any more than 25 for blake
is way too much. when there are way more players who are hungry on our team with much higher potentials that need to be realized than him.
meWOW
i'm with you
I love blake and think he is one of the top BACKUP point guards in the league, but why is he finishing games? Nate and Roy both need to see the reality of the situation and that is this team won’t reach its potential until miller satts along side a two and a three.
if brandon is controlling the ball late in games
i dont have a problem with blake in to stretch the defense so that they wont collapse on roy.

instead of Rudy?
because that’s what Nate consistently does. It’s got to stop
How did you guys win that?

That is great but Brandon cant have the ball all the time.
With the way teams are collapsing on him he has to give it up. This year even more than last. When he does we need another offensive facilitator, not another spot up shooter. As for Rudy he aint a point guard and cant handle the ball like one. Plus he can get tunnel vision at times.
instead of miller
ideally i’d rather have rudy in, instead of blake…however if nate wants to make the argument that he doesn’t want miller in there for that reason, I can accept that.

if you want to stretch the defense
then put in webster who can shoot just as well and rebound and defend. Its not a coincidence that the hawks got all the rebounds down the stretch.
Webster is shooting horribly right now

Blake was a huge part of getting us out to the lead in the first place.
I agree, it’d be better to have Rudy/Miller/Roy in at the end, but you are way overboard.
We love Webster. But he looks way out of control when he drives.
We love Roy. He doesn’t know when he needs to shoot the ball.
We love Rudy. But sometimes the ball just comes flying out of his hands.
We love Blake. But he isn’t Mr. 4th quarter.

Check out Blakes Clutch stats from last year.
He falls apart when the game is close….http://www.82games.com/0809/08POR1.HTM
That's not true
Some of his numbers go down because Brandon always has the ball.

more like Tim Donaghy was right
about refs cheating… what a joke of game.
I’m all for Blake retiring as a Blazer. While people like to point out his mistakes, they are still few.
...and that's a good thing
He shouldn't be making any mistakes if he just brings the ball up the court
passes it off to Brandon and then waits for an open three.

Steve Blake should not be a starter/30mpg player on this team
Andre Miller is a better PG. Rudy Fernandez and Brandon Roy are better SGs. Brandon Roy and Martell Webster are better SFs. Blake could be a very good 15-20 (if he’s lights out from 3) backup PG for this team, but as long as Nate McMillian insists on playing Blake over better options because Nate and Brandon like him, Blake will continue to play poorly in the clutch. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it – hopefully, se don’t see Steve vs. Aaron Brooks in the first round again.

Start Rudy
Er, and which Blazer--besides Rudy--WAS hitting shots at the end of that game?
News flash: that was a very tired Blazer team out there—and for good reason. They were at the end of an extremely grueling road trip, featuring not one but TWO back-to-backs. Nate tried to get fresh legs in—Martell & Bayless—with disastrous results. Tired players miss open shots (usually short), are a step late going for rebounds & loose balls, and turn over the ball. Sound familiar? What’s remarkable is that the Blazers didn’t get blown out tonight.
Rather than blaming Blake for tonight’s loss, you should be proud of the way the Blazers scrapped and took a rested, 8-2 Hawks team to overtime at the end of an already-successful road trip. That’s a very encouraging sign for the future—particularly when you consider that both Batum and Outlaw are currently injured.

Rudy & Roy were on
As for the rest, we’ll never know because all we get to see is Blake at the end of games.
You’re right — I should be encouraged, not discouraged. That’s just what happens when I “post in the moment”. It really is a fairly minor quibble with the rotation that will hopefully be resolved in the near future. This 3-guard rotation can’t last forever, can it?
Tell us in what manner Rex was "disastrous"....

Maybe I'm being overly harsh
But I recall a typical over-eager Rex foul and a really awkward turnover (when he allowed a pass to rocket off him downcourt). Nate couldn’t seem to get Bayless out of there quickly enough. Martell was worse—truly awful. (One turnover—on an aimless drive to the hoop—was among the ugliest I’ve ever seen committed by an NBA player.)
Of course, it’s tough to get thrown into an important game at that stage after sitting the entire night. But if Marty and Rex could just have played conservative, mistake-free ball for a few minutes, that would have been huge. As it was, they were so overeager and overaggressive that Nate had to pull them before the starters got a real breather. To me, that was a key factor in the loss.

This post is a joke.
Come on man. Blake has given everything he has to this team. He has hit huge shots in the past that have won games for us. He is not without fault. But really, he is dead to you?
I propose a 2 hour down period immediately following games for fan posts. Nothing for two hours while you people calm down. Geez, we lost the last game on a long road trip. To be honest I didn’t expect us to win it. Get off of Steve, for goodness sake.

blakey plays 25 minutes instead
and you put him in for a corner three in the last 2 minutes and he’s much fresher.
if blake’s in at the end. brandon has to play point. if brandon’s too tired to initiate the offense, dre needs to be in there.
blake is great if he’s put in a position to succeed. Let him be a role player, and not force him to play like he’s a key piece.

Give Blake a breack why?
First of all he makes millions and is a professional athelete. So people can say what they want about his game LOOK AT HIS SHOOTING STATS for the season then get back to me and still tell me how well he’s playing. He’s not a bad guy, he’s just playing poorly especially compared to last year. His defence was terrible. I say he’s a good player to come of the bench but not to start and finish games. He had so many oppurtunities tonight and either missed the shot or stepped out of bounds. Give more minutes to rudy and miller. Finish with rudy and miller.
Miller was taken out at the 6 minute mark of the 4th quarter.
56 seconds earlier the Blazers had a 6 point lead. Then Blake stopped Johnson at the foul line as he tried to penetrate. Johnson passed to Bibby (guarded by Miller) who hit a jump shot and was fouled by Miller. Bibby converted the foul shot for a 3-pt play. Then Miller attempted a bad pass to LMA but luckily the ball bounced back to him, but then Miller tried to drive and turned the ball over. Then at the other end Johnson hit a 3-pt shot over Miller (I actually thought Miller did a good job guarding Johnson on that shot). But in a space of 56 seconds Miller “gave up” 6 points and made a turnover, and we were 6 points behind. That’s when Nate pulled him. Good decision or bad decision? I don’t know, but that’s what happened.
What I do know is that in the last 6 minutes of the 4th Atlanta got 3 offensive rebounds and we fouled them on a 4th offensive rebound attempt. They converted those extra chances into 5 points. We got 1 offensive rebound (off Oden’s missed foul shots) and converted it for 2 points. So had Oden (only 7 rebounds in 32 minutes) got even one of those Atlanta offensive rebounds this discussion about Blake probably wouldn’t be happening. For the game Atlanta got 15 offensive rebounds to our 8.

If people post on the Internet
other people can say what they like about it, whether they make millions or not.
The guy is right, you guys need a calm down period for two hours. Kick back, relax, don’t let your blood pressure sky-rocket, it isn’t good for you. Anything worth saying can be said in the morning, and a lot clearer.

I didn't get to watch the game
but listening on the radio, it sounded like we reeeeeeally missed Nic and Travis tonight.

No doubt. But so what? The Blazers lost one game on a brutal road trip--to a top team
The sky ain’t falling, guys. The guys that are uninjured are playing well enough to put the team in a good condition for the stretch run. As long as Nic and Trout come back in time for that, all is well. The playoffs are when season truly begins, remember. (Last season was an all-too-vivid reminder of that.)

Broken record dude...
Rudy was already in the game and “Dre” was struggling at best. Do you think he should have been the one taking the 3 pointers???… LOOK AT HIS STATS!..
5. Has no ability to make a big shot under pressure.
Roy or Aldridge should have been taking those shots.
More drama

Last game of long road trip + Just lost key bench player
Travis usually plays in these situations, and without him, there was one less option that the team is comfortable with. Plays are grooved, everyone knows their spots, and Brandon can get the ball to the second options or outlets. It takes time to re-groove the offense when a key member of the 4th quarter squad is missing.
Travis has been good for 20+ minutes a game. Thats more minutes that have to be spread around at the end of a long road trip. Blake played really well in the first half, and Nate rode the “hot hand”. Maybe a little to his detriment when it came crunch time.
Quit picking on the role players. Brandon could just as easily be singled out for not being a defensive stopper and shutting down Joe Johnson. That could have also won us the game. But here too the team was too tired to pull it off at the end. Maybe Nate could have spread the minutes around more, but he’s got a young team, and its not like they come with fuel gauges on their arms, so he can read how much gas there’s left in the tank.
We’ve beaten a lot of teams, when (because) they are tired; whether it be back-2-back scheduling advantage, end of long road trips, short-handedness with older teams. Sometimes it happens to us too. [And yes, the refs didn’t help],
Phewwwwwww...
…I was afraid this was going to be another, “why is Blake playing so many minutes…he sucks” post. Luckily it turned out to be that elusive hybrid… A “Blake is Dead to Me” post!.. How exciting!
Totally inappropriate wording to put in a post in my opinion. Just another weak attempt to re-fire the I hate Blake crowd…
Many things cost the Blazers the game last night and many things could have won it. It didn’t happen… We lost and we’ll lose again and you know what nobody will die either way… except to you zbrum
GO BLAZERS!!!
Come on.
Blake is dead to you? Silly. Blake is a nice point guard and we are lucky to have him. I agree I don’t think he should be taking big shots at the end of games, especially when we have assassins in the form of Roy, Rudy, and Lamarcus, but dead to you?
