Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Hawks--Pre-Game and First Half
Welcome to your Monday afternoon discussion of yet another eastern road game. Do we finally get to come home after this? Let's hope the Blazers don't make the mental trip early. Discuss the lead-up to the game and the first half right here. As always please be respectful of each other, welcome folks who might be new, and keep it clean and on-topic. Enjoy the game!

Win ugly if we must...
aesthetics be damned: the Blazers haven’t trailed in the 4th quarter of any game on this winning streak, and trailed only briefly in the 2nd half of one game (Memphis).
Hit it. Yes he did. Ohhhh yeah.

Claver is supposed to be good
And Freeland is tearing up the Euroleagues.
And you wanna trade a potentiall good SF and PF pair for a POINT GUARD?!?!
Don’t we all complain about Steve Blake? He’s a PG. And we want ANOTHER ONE?!?!
Yeah, always go with the big man. Have we learnt nothing from our Oden and Bowie picks? Never get a small when you can have a big.

At least, that’s what people have been telling me.

That's kind of my mood too.
This is a trap game. If we steal it, great. Even if it’s mainly because ATL doesn’t play well, doesn’t matter.
I wonder how negative folks will get if it goes poorly. I don’t know if I’m up for writing the “It’s ok guys” post every 20 minutes.
Yup--expecting to lose, but a win would be fantastic, obviously.

I don't think "trap game" is the right cliche here
Isn’t a “Trap game” is a game you are supposed to win vs. a bad team, either immediately after a huge win or immediately before a big game?
This is more like a “Meh game”, where a loss would be understandable and acceptable for a variety of reasons.
ow can you have a trap game against a team with a better record that has already beaten you?

not pissed, so long as we look decent
let’s face it, our offense hase been U-G-L-Y of late. Even if we lose, I’d like to see some offensive improvement.
How did you guys win that?

I'd be very pleased to see more Rudy this game.
Though, I will say this. If Portland can play long stretches of effective defense with both Blake and Miller out there, that will really show how far this team has come defensively.
Sadly…..I have my doubts.
Yes! Yes! In the face!
What matchup do you guys like best in this game?
I’d like to say Oden vs Horford, but if there’s too much of that, then Woodson will send a guard at Oden, kamikaze style. Tweeet

Ceterum censeo Lakers esse delendam
Considering our record last year, and this season's strength of schedule
I’d be inclined to agree if I were a neutral fan.
I would have voted for Phoenix. Stoked for Frye…I almost feel bad what’s going to happen when he has to guard Oden.
"Estos tíos están locos"- Rudy Fernandez
And by "falling into him," you mean relentlessly shooting threes
Remember our good friend Channing?
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
Shoot a three, if it goes in, he wins, if it misses, he runs to the basket, flops against Oden and draws a foul. Can't miss.
Seriously, why every player just doesn’t rub up against greg, flail and get a whistle, I don’t know.
So we finally caught up with 21st century technology
Got the big LCD flat screen and DVR, etc.
Best part is the ease of recording. Here I am slavin’ away at work and meanwhile by DVR is cueing up for the big game. It’ll keep going for up to an hour past the scheduled time in case of OT.
The downside is I can’t hang around here (BE) much longer cause I don’t wanna know the score.
But, it’s really nice to not have to miss any games. Last year I didn’t get to see a bunch of East coast road games.
Okay, bye bye peoples, Go Blazers!
I upgraded to DVR this year, too
Solely for the purpose of recording Blazer games

I wanna win.
More than anyone else here, so I win the best fan award of the night.
We can beat them. We are better. But we lost to them already, they are playing well, and while we are winning I don’t feel like we’re in any kind of a groove. Not doing THAT good for a 6 game win streak, if one can feel un-good about 6 wins in a row.
I hope getting that last win on a good road trip is important to us and we come out like gangbusters.
Asking for a definitions sounds like something someone who isn't the best fan award winner of the night would say!!!
Oh I could never fully pwn you, Bow.

Dunno, but Ijust got my HD and will be catching my first game on HD tonight.
The football in HD was definitely a major upgrade.
Awesome upgrade
Basketball is way, way better in HD than standard.
Football, though, I won’t even watch in standard def. Unwatchable.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
I saw a recent college football game in SD
My wife was mad at me for watching a non-HD game. I didn’t have a choice, it wasn’t available in HD!
People watch hockey?
Baseball is really good in HD I think. see a much wider view.
I hope I can get a bunch of championships, like 15. " - Greg Oden
Oh everything looks better in HD
I just think HD brings less to baseball than the other three. Slower moving sport with a lot of stationary situations.
High Scorer for the blazers?
I would think Aldridge, maybe Roy

Not gonna happen.
Can’t get 10 foulds unless its summer league.
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
We need a Bruce Bowen for guys like that
Sometimes, you just have to jump kick a guy in the face.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
I can't for Batum to come back.
Especially now with Outlaw sitting out.
It would be Batum
hard to believe the PTB can lose Batum and Outlaw and still have enough depth to cover
Dogs have Owners, Cats have Staff.
he will take a lot of shots
Hopefully he shoots them out of the game this time, as he’s been known to do.
If this were the BCS
san antonio and New Orleans would already be mathematically out.
I hope I can get a bunch of championships, like 15. " - Greg Oden
i love comparing nba to the bcs
because it just shows how dumb their debates are. The NBA has played about the same number of games as are in a college football season. In those games:
- The Lakers have drilled the Hawks and the Suns. The Nuggets have drilled the Lakers and beaten the Blazers
-
- The Blazers have beaten the Spurs but lost to the Nuggets and Hawks. The Mavs have had a good year, but lost to the Spurs.
-
You’d be a fool to think anyone could definitively rank the teams based on any of this. And yet in the BCS, you’ve got pollsters deciding whether TCU is better or worse than Cincinnati, and I don’t think those teams have a single common opponent!
yup
I have yet to hear a real reason why we cant have real playoffs. It would make way more money, and only a couple teams would play more games. there is no reason not to do it. I dont want to hijack a gameday thread with BCS talk though. haha
I hope I can get a bunch of championships, like 15. " - Greg Oden
I think he's an All-Star if he can stay in the game
There’s no other good centers left in the West this year.
If Oden wants to be an All-Star, he needs to hire a marketing firm, start putting his face on cereal boxes.
"Quid, Me Anxius Sum?"
http://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/Year5000
Amare will win the fan vote
Either Bynum or Kaman will be the reserve, with Nene as a dark horse. Oden has no chance whatsoever unless he starts playing a minimum of 30 mpg every night starting right now.
right now, yes-- all of them.
Oden is just as good if not better on a per minute basis, but ~35 minutes of those guys>>24 minutes of Oden.
agreed
Bynum ODEN will be a great matchup for a while, but Bynum is more polished right now.
I hope I can get a bunch of championships, like 15. " - Greg Oden

I'm surprised
It’s cheaper for the first week, and it would have included League Pass Broadband for free while you were between houses.
apparently hawks are #1 on espn's power rankings? im too lazy to look is this true?
if so we better take it to em tonight..
they are #1 in sagarin's computer rankings also
They have had the best start of any team, virtually any way you slice it.
Yeah as long as you're not counting previous seasons, Atl is a clear #1 right now
If you get into previous seasons, Cle, LA and Bos, who may start slow but are likely headed deep into the playoffs, would jump over there.

Yeah Timbo was yelling last game because Portland was losing in the 2nd
I’m pretty sure it worked out ok.
The trick is
to score more points than the opponent, then you have a 59% of winning
Snake's keys:
- Score points
- Play defense
- Be ahead by at least 4 points for Atlanta’s last possession
If we get the win tonight...
Then my expectations will begin to get high again, probably not a good thing.

That arena is EMPTY!
"Aneurysm".
When Outlaw wins a game on a last-second shot, it’s called an "annthefaneurysm". QualityPie
Everytime I've seen the Hawks play their arena seems empty
