Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Hawks--Pre-Game and First Half

Welcome to your Monday afternoon discussion of yet another eastern road game.  Do we finally get to come home after this?  Let's hope the Blazers don't make the mental trip early.  Discuss the lead-up to the game and the first half right here.  As always please be respectful of each other, welcome folks who might be new, and keep it clean and on-topic.  Enjoy the game!

Win ugly if we must...

aesthetics be damned: the Blazers haven’t trailed in the 4th quarter of any game on this winning streak, and trailed only briefly in the 2nd half of one game (Memphis).

Hit it. Yes he did. Ohhhh yeah.

That's kind of my mood too.

This is a trap game. If we steal it, great. Even if it’s mainly because ATL doesn’t play well, doesn’t matter.

I wonder how negative folks will get if it goes poorly. I don’t know if I’m up for writing the “It’s ok guys” post every 20 minutes.

I don't think "trap game" is the right cliche here

Isn’t a “Trap game” is a game you are supposed to win vs. a bad team, either immediately after a huge win or immediately before a big game?

This is more like a “Meh game”, where a loss would be understandable and acceptable for a variety of reasons.

Though, I will say this. If Portland can play long stretches of effective defense with both Blake and Miller out there, that will really show how far this team has come defensively.

So we finally caught up with 21st century technology

Got the big LCD flat screen and DVR, etc.

Best part is the ease of recording. Here I am slavin’ away at work and meanwhile by DVR is cueing up for the big game. It’ll keep going for up to an hour past the scheduled time in case of OT.

The downside is I can’t hang around here (BE) much longer cause I don’t wanna know the score.

But, it’s really nice to not have to miss any games. Last year I didn’t get to see a bunch of East coast road games.

Okay, bye bye peoples, Go Blazers!

More than anyone else here, so I win the best fan award of the night.

We can beat them. We are better. But we lost to them already, they are playing well, and while we are winning I don’t feel like we’re in any kind of a groove. Not doing THAT good for a 6 game win streak, if one can feel un-good about 6 wins in a row.

I hope getting that last win on a good road trip is important to us and we come out like gangbusters.

by mxpx5678 on Nov 16, 2009 3:55 PM PST up reply actions

i love comparing nba to the bcs

because it just shows how dumb their debates are. The NBA has played about the same number of games as are in a college football season. In those games:

- The Lakers have drilled the Hawks and the Suns.
-
The Nuggets have drilled the Lakers and beaten the Blazers
- The Blazers have beaten the Spurs but lost to the Nuggets and Hawks.
-
The Mavs have had a good year, but lost to the Spurs.

You’d be a fool to think anyone could definitively rank the teams based on any of this. And yet in the BCS, you’ve got pollsters deciding whether TCU is better or worse than Cincinnati, and I don’t think those teams have a single common opponent!

by atomiccafe on Nov 16, 2009 4:00 PM PST up reply actions

yup

I have yet to hear a real reason why we cant have real playoffs. It would make way more money, and only a couple teams would play more games. there is no reason not to do it. I dont want to hijack a gameday thread with BCS talk though. haha

That arena is EMPTY!

"Aneurysm".

When Outlaw wins a game on a last-second shot, it’s called an "annthefaneurysm". QualityPie

Everytime I've seen the Hawks play their arena seems empty

hence their annoucer stupidly compensating for it with his “J-J-J-Joe Johnson” exclamations.

I’m against violence but if only someone could make him stop…

Yo

anyone else having trouble finding the Blazers Cast HQ stream?

by CaptainSexyJacob on Nov 16, 2009 4:14 PM PST reply actions

rematch2win

But what’s the link to the stream!

by CaptainSexyJacob on Nov 16, 2009 4:14 PM PST up reply actions

have some respect for the stream - the pass posted publicly exponentially increases the chance it will get taken down

Broadcaster blazercasthq14:
yeah just let them know the usual procedure to get the password is not to post on be, but send a jtv message to me mentioning be and they’ll get the password in due time (after I’m done with e-mails and responding to other messages)

Yeah, the Hawks have the best record in the Eastern Conference, too...

I'll get over it

If his offensive game continues to expand. He’s trying to make a good pass, it’ll improve.

Ugly

No excuse for a 7 footer with the ball in the paint to pass to a PG who is also covered and also in the paint.

He’s affected a few shots, as usual.

2nd horrible pass by Oden

His post moves are unbelievably improved though. So strong.

he’s so funny. Every time he adds something to his game it takes like two games of just sucking at it.

Yeah I just can't worry about a couple bad passes

Those should improve, he doesn’t do these kinds of passes all the time.

Not a bad start.

Clean up the turnovers, keep up the energy, and I think we have a good shot.

I like what Oden is doing so far...

He is being aggressive and that is resulting in him being dominant. Might want to watch those passes a little though, can’t let that fast break get to his head.
