Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Best in the East against Best in the West

On Monday The top team in the East Alanta, will play a road weary Best in the West team. You can only watch on NBA league pass Comcast sports net Northwest and Fox sports south.  This being a second match up of these teams with Alanta holding the advantage as they won in Portland already. Of this young season this one game will tell us what these two teams are made of. Alanta just beat Boston on their home court, Portland holds the longest win streak in the NBA. This will be the first match up with our 3 guard line up, and without Outlaw a 2nd squad player will really have to step up. As for me I believe Portland can dig deep and prove something in this contest, as I expect it to be a highly contested and hard fought game. Both teams mirror each other in talent! What do you think of this game?

Like I mentioned in a game thread--

I think Portland loses by ALOT. (25+ pts). Portland already considers this trip a fantastic success, they are tired, and not as good as their record suggests, yet. And now Nate has to (or gets to) mess with the lineups and rotations some more with Travis out. They will get rolled by the Hawks. Disclaimer: I hope I am wrong.

I am an oasis of Blazer fandom in a bleak desert of Laker fans.

Yeah I'm not too excited about this game.

I see Portland getting steam rolled. Atlanta is playing great basketball, and even worse, it finally clicked with Josh Smith to not shoot 3’s or long 2’s. Someone must have told him he was one of the most inefficient long range scorers in the whole NBA.

I think we need a huge game out of Rudy or Bayless

and honestly, I think Bayless could do some real damage this game if his ankle is OK. They have Mike Bibby, Jamal Crawford, and Jeff Teague to guard him. None of these guys can stay in front of him. He needs to take it to the hole and get their bigs in foul trouble. I’m hoping to see a little end of the 2nd quarter stint for him where he gets to the line 3 times in 5 minutes and then gets to play more in the third.
Then we get the ball to Oden/LMA in the rest of the 3rd and 4th and pound it inside until Horford and Pachulia foul out.

There are lots of reasons why we could win this game.
  • We weren’t clicking as a team when the Hawks beat us in Portland. We still aren’t where we need to be, but we’ll do better this time, especially if Greg can stay in the game.
  • It’s the last game of a very successful road trip. Our guys aren’t going to lie down and let the Hawks snap our six-game win streak, plus they want revenge.
  • It’s a short flight from Charlotte to Atlanta, and the Blazers get to rest today.
  • The Hawks aren’t good at putting butts in seats, so their homecourt advantage is less than it could be.

We might not win this game, but if we lose, it won’t be by much.

The revenge factor, is where they dig deep, gut check time.

Alanta has not played our 3 guard line up. Hopefully everyone is resting today and watching tape of the last meeting, Alanta scores but we hold others to low scores. Should be a great game and test. Go Blazers!

The Hawks have played the best ball in the NBA thus far

A win here would be the first truly impressive Blazer win of the year.

yep.

This is the the game I’ve been looking forward to on this road trip. I’ve been waiting to see what we’re made of. This will be the first real look into not only where we are physically, but most importantly where we are mentally. A win here could catapult us to the next level. A loss here would wake us up. I think of this game as a no lose situation. Bring on Monday!!

I think

This should be a game we ought be competitive in. Oden should be able to dominate this frontline if he doesn’t get targeted by officials…

I almost feel like the league is making Greg into a scapegoat. I mean did anyone see the accusations Donaghy had against the league and its officiating practices? It is plausible, but i digress…

Oden did not play significant minutes against the Bobcats, so I am counting on him to bring the energy tomorrow. I hope Jerryd is Ok because this could be a great opportunity for him to seize more playing time in light of the unfortunate events of last night. In fact, I think McMillan held him out of the game for this very reason. Hopefully the “two” days of rest will allow him to be more prepared for a game tomorrow.

I intend to be at the game, with a good seat hopefullly, so i’ll def be watching out for everything.

i expect that we'll lose

but it’s more important that we win wednesday back in PDX and continue to make teams believe they can’t win in Portland.

i think oden will have huge foul problems and see very little of the floor. their frontline is very likely to get both he and joel in foul trouble. joel might be able to avoid this, greg i believe will not.

if it gets out of hand perhaps we can use it as an opportunity to rest the main guys and give more playing time to rudy, martell & jerryd (assuming he’s healthy)

I’ll be impressed if we keep it within 10 but we might be better off mailing it in in the 3rd quarter and getting ready for Wednesday.

who wouldn’t take 4 and 1 even with the quality of teams on this trip?

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
