Man, it's refreshing
to see ’Dre run the fast break this year.
Wow...
Blazers just keep handling their bizness!

Gutty win...and UGLY win...
I would’ve like to have seen the second unit work on their execution a bit more. Rudy needs to stop with the lazy passes. The front line was mighty impressive tonight. Oden-Pryzbilla-Aldridge went for 38 points/33 rebounds/6 blocks. Nice…
Well they are 5-0 when they use it.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Rudy was terrible tonight. terrible
he deserved only the 12 minutes he got. I agree though about Martell, but I think he’ll start seeing more time come Atlanta.
How did you guys win that?

Don't forget...
They play tomorrow as well. Martell and Rudy will get to run tomorrow.

Oden was a defensively factor for sure.
His offense was struggling, but he hustled after rebounds.
His counterpart Brook Lopez just went 1-12 and 5 PF against Howard. Young bigs in this league takes time.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
2nd half he didn't struggle offensively
i think he was 4 of 5 in the 2nd half after going 0 for 5 in the first. it’s good to see he put it behind him.
Oden was mostly scoring off loose balls and rebounds.
The Blazers didn’t run one play for him in the second half. That was kind of disappointing.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
probably smart when his post game is not on
and besides, LA was the hot hand – and for once we kept going to it.
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.
-Nate McMillan Postgame, 3/4/2009
Not one play?
They were treating him like Przybilla. I’m not asking them to force feed him, it’ll be nice to keep developing his post game. Especially against smaller defenders like Okafur and Marks.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
they were shadowing him like crazy
they didn’t want to get beat by greg. This just allowed LMA to go to work
Hello Dum Dum
Agreed...
I understand riding the hot hand (LA) but Oden has a mismatch on his man almost every night. We need to make sure we exploit that as much as possible.
by OmoriumVerum on Nov 13, 2009 7:49 PM PST up reply actions
Guys you HAVE to cheer for the L*kers tonight
If they beat the Nuggets, it’ll only mean good for us.
Our rebounding saved us this game.
With the bad shooting it is nice we can out rebound a team by 20.
Hello Dum Dum

Ugly as all can be, but a win is a win.

I just bought tickets for the game in Atlanta.
Anyone have any recommendations for a good (but not corny) sign?
Going to see that one myself.
That should be a great game. I’m really looking forward to it.

I hate our 1 on 1 defense at the moment from most perimeter players
They are always standing 2 feet to one side, only guarding one hand. That way they can easily get beaten off the dribble, or latest when any kind of pick setter arrives.
But slowly things happen that they cannot help and the Blazers Fellowship of the Ring begins to break apart
I'm going to say something that people will think is crazy
I think Blake has been playing pretty decent defense of late. He looked respectable guarding Paul tonight.
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

i know Paul was off
but Blake did a decent job of staying in front of him too.

CP3 played on already twisted ankle
CP3 was playing on a ankle he had already twisted. That was why his game was a little off. I read somewhere after stepping on Joel’s foot he will be out one – two weeks from reinjurying the same ankle.
"Jason Quick is one of the best fiction sports writers in the country!"
I agree.
I think that Blake has been playing smart defense lately. Moves his feet and stays in front of his man. He knows that he has to stay aggressive on D with the small backcourt line-up.
by OmoriumVerum on Nov 13, 2009 7:56 PM PST up reply actions
Steve Blake is unathletic and gets smoked because of that disadvantage, although he's much ...
more savvy on defense than, oh, Jerryd Bayless. That’s because Blake has crafty footwork and plays within himself, while Bayless often uses his hands to check his guy — which is a humongous no-no — and gets burned constantly off of picks.
Dear Paul Allen:
Fire Nate McMillan & hire Jeff Van Gundy.
Sincerely,
AK1984
I think that's part of their gameplan
The try to push their man to the outside and into the baseline, using the baseline as an extra defender. It’s not a bad scheme with the 3-guard lineup. Oden and Pryz really own the paint when they are in.
by OmoriumVerum on Nov 13, 2009 7:53 PM PST up reply actions

Oden and Przybilla
have done a great job of flashing and staying in front of the guards. They are both quick enough to get out and stay in front of the person who is driving. Oden, in particular, has gotten much better about staying straight up and hanging back.

Hornets Chris Paul is expected to miss 1-2 weeks with a left ankle sprain, league source tells Y! Sports. “For sure one week,” source says.
But slowly things happen that they cannot help and the Blazers Fellowship of the Ring begins to break apart

but such is the fate of any player who does not play for Portland.
I wish CP3 did…. just not for the next 3 weeks or so.

Ugly win for the Blazers but it’s a good thing they somewhat turned it around in the second half. LA had a strong second half. Oden wasn’t as offensively productive as I would have like to seen against the Hornets. Okafor is good but he was in foul trouble. Roy had a poor night shooting the ball. But then again so did everyone else. Also who is this Thorton kid that was scoring well for the Hornets? Can’t say I’ve heard of him. Also, I have no idea why the Hornets fired Byron Scott. Coaching is overrated. Just look at the Celtics. They had Doc RIvers as their coach when they had one of the worst records in the NBA. Then they get Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett and they win a championship with Doc Rivers as the coach. Teams need to quit firing their coaches so often. They need to look more at the product on the floor.
by Aaron Sass on Nov 13, 2009 7:58 PM PST reply actions 2 recs
i disagree with coaching is over-rated...
check out the assistant coaches on the Celtics..it’s not all Doc Rivers
I guess...
But still if you have a team like the Kings did last year what can you do? Kevin Martin is the only thing close to a superstar they had and he was hurt for most of last year. You can’t throw a coach into a situation where he has no talent and no superstars and expect him to make progress. If a coach fails with a team like the Lakers this year then I say fire him. When I say fail I mean not make the playoffs. But if a team like the Kings last year fails then really the coach almost had nothing to do with it. When there’s no talent of the floor the team is going to suck.
Agree that it would have been nice to try and get Oden
a bit more involved, but LMA was on fire in that 3rd quarter, and in a game as ugly as tonight, that was the difference.
The irony of the numbskull who made the deals/contracts that have run NO into the ground keeping his job while Scott is fired is indeed delicious.
I hate Comcast
Card carrying member of Team Bayless
I need to stop being so hard on Steve Blake. Even though I'd rather see him as a top 5 backup PG than an undersized starting SG, he's a Bazer, he works hard, he has earned respect.

ugh, watching this nugs/lakes game is brutal
can’t seem to keep in mind that i want the nugs to lose
Kobe isnt
that much fun to watch now like he was in 98-04
Nugs are 6-3. We are now 7-3. Wow.
I think Lakers take them tonight which would put us in front for now. Awesome. I thought we wouldn;t be able to challenge them for a while.
"And for the first time in the NBA, both teams playing each other here tonight...lost"
“We aren’t sure how it happened, but the Lakers and Nuggets both racked up a loss tonight in what is sure to be a game talked about for weeks to come”
"We Believe" - Rudy Fernandez
In a way it's easy to root for the Lakers sometimes. They're gonna get the #1 seed. It's a foregone conclusion.
Might as well root for them to thin the herd and make way for us.

Yeah but the Blazers are going to take care of business on their own. They’re a better team then Denver and I think they’re better then the Spurs. The Blazers already beat the Spurs and they should have beaten Denver. Also I think Portland will be a much better road team against playoff teams this year.
How long will the Suns be able to keep this up?
There are some old legs running on that team.
Hello Dum Dum
If they can stay healthy and fresh
but come playoffs do you think their style can take them far? Amare can keep killing it but Nash and Grant might run out of gas
Hello Dum Dum
They won’t be able to keep it up all season. They’re good but Nash will run out of gas sooner or later.
Likely but the WC sure is a different picture than what I expected
