Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Hornets--Halftime and Second Half Edition

Here's the thread to take you through the second half.  Enjoy the conversation!

By the way, you'll notice these threads disappear after the game is over.  They're not gone for good.  They've just moved to the "GameThreads" page, accessible via the menu on the top bar of the site.  This saves room on the main page after games are through.

That was easily the ugliest half of NBA basketball

I’ve witnessed. Neither team could buy a bucket in the first quarter.

by torsoheap on Nov 13, 2009 6:13 PM PST reply actions

I know we are deep

but it feels like just as a player gets comfortable on the court he gets jerked. Odem especially seems to get pulled right after having a couple of good plays.

by the glide on Nov 13, 2009 6:14 PM PST reply actions

not to mention

we did what we wanted – get Okafor out, but then we didn’t run ONE play for Oden with Marks on him, then proceeded to pull him at the normal time even though he didn’t have a foul yet. why not give him a few attempts against Marks – maybe we could have gotten him untracked?

How did you guys win that?

This game Roy has pretty much only played with either Blake and Miller, or Blake and Rudy. I don’t think he has played almost at all with a small forward. I feel that he’s trying just now, but in the first he was floating a lot. I think until we start playing with two guards and a small forward Roy is not going to be in good form.
Ok, sorry, only a million people have said this exact same thing.

He's going to be a VERY solid defensive player. I don't know that he's quick enough or coordinated to be an offensive force — but GOOD ENOUGH.

yeah

depending on what LMA and Roy are doing, we don’t necessarily need him to go 18 and 11 every single night.

Exactly.

I remember the season he was hurt and he was on TV during the halftime and Rebecca asked him how many points he thought he’d average and Greg said “12 or 14.” The response was “That’s all?!?!?” but it turns out that GO was prescient.

He's never going to be a 30 minute guy, and frankly, he doesn't need to be.

25 minutes, I’ve said it from the start…

Center is a rough position. That’s all you need out of a guy. But you need 2 of them.

between LMA, Roy, Rudy, Webster, Batum, Outlaw and Blake (who both may not be here next year); Greg only needs to average 12-14 and just be dominant on the glass and in the paint

… to have the home court advantage against the L*kers in the Finals. Of course it could also mean having home court against the Blazers if it comes to that, but Roy & Co. can just concede the first two games and sweep the last four in a stunning display of team basketball.
