Mark Stein: Byron Scott out in N.O.
If true, the Blazers will be playing the Hornets in the latter's first game without their coach. Who knows how this might impact the Hornets' play.

The Hornets seem to be a bit of a trainwreck.
One great player with an underwhelming supporting cast. (I think David West, the main beneficiary of CP3’s magnificence, is one of the most overrated All-Star selections of recent years.)
Dysfunctional team, depressed city, poor fanbase, lousy owner. I do wonder if things keep going south, whether Paul is going to become disgruntled and start pushing for a trade.
Hit it. Yes he did. Ohhhh yeah.

It should be noted,
before people start posting them, that CP3 is a base-year player. So nothing’s happening this year, at least.

Wondered if this would happen soon
The talent is there, but they aren’t clicking at all.
This might make that a tougher game. Depending on who they get, sometimes the first thing the new coach does is basically let the key players set the game plan for the first game or two. If CP3 and West have a game plan they like, they could really come out on fire.
Of course, another possibility is they just implode completely until the new coach really gets his system in.

Yeah, I have no stats to back this up,
but teams usually come out strong after their coach is canned, as in many ways the decision is a statement about the players’ shortcomings and the players are motivated to prove people wrong.

It's widely variable
About the only thing that is likely is that they will play differently. It might be better, it might be worse.
When Toronto hired a new coach last year, they proceeded to get horribly blown out in the next two games, if I remember correctly.

its true...
its always the coach to go first. glad this just happened right before the blazers play them. or maybe not………players like to play a little harder when a coach goes
Another COY Bites the Dust
Avery Johnson won the Coach of the Year award in 2006 and was canned two years later.
Sam Mitchell was COY in 2007, fired in 2008.
Byron Scott won the award in 2008, and was fired today.
Who’s next?
Mike Brown, the countdown is on!
I could totally see that happening, too.
Mike Brown runs a vanilla offense and has done a little with (what some consider) a lot.

the next guy who wins this award
should politely refuse to accept it
IIRC, Mike Schuler was the only COTY in Blazer history…it didn’t impress Clyde that much
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
