Brandon Roy Unhappy?
Dwight says that Ben says that Quick says that Brandon Roy... is unhappy.
Why?
Not sure. Whether Roy has said he's unhappy or not, or Quick is speculating such, I dunno. Quick made the comment on the radio, Ben tweeted about it (but hasn't posted here), and Dwight put the story up on his blog.
Possibilities:
* Brandon isn't really all that unhappy, and this is another "Iavaroni to become Blazers coach" story.
* Brandon doesn't like his dinners with Andre
* Brandon doesn't like the idea of being turned into Rip Hamilton.
* Brandon is upset about the team's slowish start
* Brandon is ticked with Nate.
* Brandon, now with his contract, has realized money doesn't buy happiness
* Brandon is upset that Congress hasn't passed a healthcare bill yet.
What's really true? Who knows.

I know I don't know.
I feel like our boys are purposefully taking statements out of context these days to be hyper-critical too. Shouldn’t be too long before somebody makes a graph analyzing Roy’s facial expressions. i’m sure we’ll “know” soon enough. Blah.

like all the Miller brew haha at the beginning of September
sportwriters just like to keep the pot stirred, even a quality guy like quick.
I imagine Roy isn’t happy, but largely because up to the last few games the Blazers looked out of sync and everyone, including Roy is trying to figure out how to et that groove back. Professionals are not happy when things don’t go as they should, so it is not surprising Roy is not happy…things will come around…

I''ve been posting my thoughts on Dwight's blog
having not heard the segment in question, I’m really flying blind, but hey, aren’t we all?
If Roy really is unhappy, I’d love to hear WHY and what he thinks the solution would be. But I gotta tell you, if the answer to his “happiness” is playing more slow-down half-court hand the ball to Roy and everyone watch him go to work offense, then I think he’s going to find himself being “happy” getting bounced out of the first round the next 5 years.
For this team to go deep, we absolutely need a less predictable, more diverse offense over the long term.
How did you guys win that?

I agree.
Let’s all be careful though. It’s easy to take something Roy says and blow it way out of porportion. I won’t believe he’s actually unhappy until I hear him say it himself on live TV.

I called him out when he repeatedly criticized Nate
and I mentioned a few “predictions” that he had whiffed on. Then, after he deleted that response I wrote something like “oh, so this is how it’s gonna be?” and he emailed me back. He basically said “this is my web page and you’re getting it for free so I’m gonna do what I want, etc” And so I told him “see ya later” He didn’t block my login (as far as I know) I just decided it wasn’t worth my time to make a comment below his posts
Dwight and I agree on some things, and disagree on others. There’s just no opportunity for give and take, and that’s a limited way to run a blog, IMO

I think this is out of context
I would imagine he might not be happy with how he is playing. But I think it is too reactionary to make too much of it. It is very early in the season and I guarantee you if it is Andre Miller he is upset with Andre will get moved.

I'll take that bet...
As a poster above said, If Roy wants to win a championship, he needs to preserve his body for the playoffs, and we need a less predictable offense. Having Dre run an awesome fast break for easy hoops, and having him get the ball into Oden will both help us win now, and begin to create a championship level offense…
I’m sure I’m in the minority here, but if Roy is unhappy with Dre, I bet Roy would fetch a lot on the trade market… That would free up time for Rudy, too! (Please, don’t flame – I’m not seriously suggesting we trade Roy. But it makes more sense to me than trading Dre.)
Did you watch either of the last two games? Didn’t that running team look awesome? I know I’m very encouraged by it…

quick was essentially speculating and said he would talk to b roy tonight.
but basically it boils down to roy playing out of position and not getting his touches.
i think quick is overstating roy’s unhappiness.
i also think that by, say, atlanta at the latest, the starting lineup will be miller, roy, webster, aldridge, oden.

we can only hope...
the question then will be do we go back to the 9 player rotation we played the first 5 games, or do we somehow keep Bayless in the rotation, presumably by playing Rudy some at the 3 when we are in full bench mode. Personally, I wouldn’t mid seeing the Blake/Bayless/Rudy/Outlaw/Przy lineup for 3-4 minutes per half. I think Bayless is better off as a 2-guard anyway, and that lineup should really try to push tempo, which Blake has shown he can somewhat do – and if nothing else, let Bayless push tempo when it’s there (with Outlaw and Rudy on the wings), and let Blake bring it up when it’s not.

Because then you'd have Bayless and Miller
As your point guards, two guys with “high risk- high reward” play styles. Nate would have a stroke.
In the playoffs a guy like Blake becomes very valuable off the bench. He can stretch the D and doesn’t turn the ball over.
Don’t misunderstand, I’m perfectly happy with trading him, but I refuse to tear my hair out because it isn’t happening fast enough.
by TheThinWhiteDuke on Nov 10, 2009 4:42 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Ok then
Here’s a solution.
Trade Outlaw to Memphis for Conley
Trade Blake and Bayless plus capspace to OKC for Nick Collison and Serge Ibaka.
Done.

by MadBlaze on Nov 11, 2009 2:54 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I'd do that
But I don’t see anyone picking up Outlaw or Blake unless they need cap relief. I’m not sure OKC or Memphis qualify.
I’m pretty sure neither team would do those deals from a talent standpoint.
Would be nice though.
by TheThinWhiteDuke on Nov 11, 2009 12:25 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
The only reason I suggest those two trades
Is that there seems to be some disillusionment with Conley in Memphis and Travis is popular there (you know they could use the ticket sales watching last nights game). With Travis, they can trade Gay for a need (such as a decent sg so they can move Mayo to the point) and then probably extend him at the end of the season for a decent price.
The second trade I am continually pushing because Collison just doesn’t seem to fit there. Blake would be for cap relief purposes, which could be useful if they go after a big name free agent or just to clear room for all the extensions they have coming up. Bayless would work there as a backup guard/sparkplug off the bench and could be given more time to develop. Think this one works from a talent standpoint.

I agree on the lineup
Webster gives you the same outside shooting, better defense, better ability to attach, better rebounding and less ball movement (in theory.)

And he has room for serious growth
We know what Blake is going to give us. Martell has the potential to be a star without the need for a ton of touches. He needs to correct his Travis-esque black hole behavior (at times), but he’s got a high ceiling.

welcome to the club Brandon…
Be done with it already Nate – start Miller/Roy/Martell/LMA/Oden, give Blake the backup 1 minutes, and never play Miller/Blake together. Give Rudy all the backup 2 minutes, and half the backup 3 minutes, with Outlaw play about 20 minutes at the 3/4. Tell the team to keep running, feed the big guys early and often, and give the ball to Roy in crunch time.

If he is unhappy, I'd guess you nailed it on the head
All of this incremental lineup chang nonsense is getting ridiculous. From the moment training camp started, it should have been pretty clear that Miller/Roy/Batum (or Webster)/Aldridge/Oden were going to be the starters. Instead, we started with Blake and Joel starting. By the end of the preseason Oden had displaced Joel. After 5 games, Miller displaced Webster (?), and at some point, Webster will almost certainly take back Blake’s spot.
So in the month that they’ve been back from vacation, there have already been 2 major rotation changes (not counting when Nic’s injury forced a new lineup) with an obvious third looming. In this time, how many teams have even made one change that wasn’t prompted by injury?

There was more
Quick said that Roy is unhappy guarding larger SFs. This is not news, Brandon has mentioned this dislike in the past. I think #7 thought heading into this season that his days guarding 3s were over (he lost weight, Martell was back, etc) Then Batum needed surgery and (to quote Michael Corleone from The Godfather) Roy is thinking to himself “just when I thought I was done guarding these big guys, they pulled me back in!”
Who should be concerned the most about Brandon’s unhappiness? Rudy. Tonight Fernandez only played 18 minutes. even though he shot well and didn’t turn the ball over, Nate just decided to play Blake for 30 minutes and Miller for 31. Meanwhile, Webster only played 16. When Roy goes back to starting at SG that “should” result in more minutes for Martell (starting at the 3) and less for Rudy— unless Nate keeps sending Roy out there to guard SFs. The 3 guard lineup will only last as long as Roy “lets” it last, and based on Quick’s comments today, it doesn’t sound like that will be much longer.
Jason said that he and Brandon will have a little chat about this, and it will be interesting to see that article, later tonight or tommorow

Roy looked so pissed last night
I charted his body language and based on knowledge I have of his personality from Myers-Briggs tests I came across some pretty shocking results.
This team is ready to implode.

I could be wrong
It’s also possible that the team is learning to play together with two new pieces, Roy is saving his body for the playoffs and Oden is learning to do his thing.
Only time will tell.

Don't be so rational.
This team is on the brink of disaster.
"Rudy is not everyday a shooter," Fernandez said. "He's defense. He's passes. He's assists."
