DALLAS, Nov. 10, 2009 - The 2010 NBA All-Star Ballot was unveiled today during a special tip-off event in Dallas, the Official Host City of NBA All-Star 2010. NBA All-Star Balloting presented by T-Mobile will begin this afternoon at 12:30 p.m. ET. The 2010 NBA All-Star Game, which will air live on TNT and ESPN Radio in the U.S., and reach fans in more than 200 countries and territories in more than 40 languages, will be played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, before an expected crowd of more than 80,000 - the largest group ever to witness a live basketball game, on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010.
2010 NBA All-Star Balloting presented by T-Mobile, with associate partner 2K Sports, allows fans around the world to vote daily for their favorite players as starters for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game. For the first time in balloting history, fans can vote for All-Stars any time by texting a player's last name from their mobile phones. Fans can cast one SMS vote per day, per phone number.
There are several ways fans can cast their votes, including: at each NBA arena; in 20 languages on NBA.com; and through mobile phones by texting the player's last name to 6-9-6-2-2 ("MYNBA"), via Web2Go® on T-Mobile phones or wap.nba.com for any wireless carrier. A T-Mobile-branded All-Star Balloting widget will also be available on NBA.com so that fans can "grab" the widget and place it on their blogs, social network pages, or personal Web sites allowing others to vote directly from the widget. Paper balloting will continue through Jan. 10, while wireless balloting and voting on NBA.com will conclude Jan. 18. Starters will be announced live on TNT on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010.
The NBA All-Star ballot lists 120 players - 60 each from the Eastern and Western conferences - with 24 guards, 24 forwards, and 12 centers from each conference comprising the list. Voters select two guards, two forwards and one center from each conference. The 120 players on the ballot were selected by a panel of media who regularly cover the NBA: Mike Breen (ABC/ESPN), Eddie Sefko (Dallas Morning News), Doug Smith (The Toronto Star and President, Pro Basketball Writers Association) Marc Spears (Yahoo! Sports), Marc Stein (ESPN.com) and Ian Thomsen (Sports Illustrated).
NBA All-Star 2010 in Dallas will bring together some of the most talented and passionate players in the league's history for a global celebration of the game. The week leading up to the 59th NBA All-Star Game will feature a full slate of community-enhancing activities and fan festivals, including NBA All-Star Jam Session presented by adidas and the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam. This will be the second NBA All-Star in Dallas. The city also hosted the event in 1986.
In conjunction with All-Star Balloting, 2K Sports will give fans the opportunity to experience Dallas and the best of basketball by entering the NBA® 2K10 Sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip to NBA All-Star 2010 and have their likeness as a digitized player incorporated in next year's game, NBA® 2K11.

oden and lamarcus
broy has always had stiff competition, and now he cannot get the same stats that have made him get there before. with yao out, oden and bynum are competing for center. And I truly believe that Lamarcus is going to try and do everything in his power to make it.

Nene is playing better than both right now---on a team that is killing it early on.
Nene deserves more respect.
Oden will be a no-brainer every year starting next season. Too inconsistent up to this point…

I think it is insane they start balloting this early
I don’t think they should let anyone vote til the teams have played 15, preferably 20 games.
Nene is putting up better numbers maybe
but oden is controlling games when he is in…depends on how many people watch a blazers game I expect….Oden put up a decent stat line last night, but that stat line in no way reflected what his impact really was on that game…
And besides Denver was lucky to get out alive last night and lost the two prior, so they are not that far ahead on things. That said I think aldridge has the tougher road…lot more competition, plus Anthony is indeed killin it most nights.
Anthiny and Duncan are your starting forwards is my guess (not my vote, just my guess)
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
B-Roy and Oden
B-Roy for sure this year again, Oden will be the backup center. Injuries to centers will help Oden out to be a backup.
#10 Pryzbilla the Vanilla Gorilla
LA
LaMarcus has stiff competition between Dirk, Melo, Durant, Gay, Duncan, and Boozer.
#10 Pryzbilla the Vanilla Gorilla
Melo and Duncan will start. lock it in now
How did you guys win that?

-Nate McMillan Postgame, 3/4/2009
Probably true
but idiotic. Duncan has no business being an All-Star from what he’s showing this year. Dirk and Melo should start and LA should have a shot as a backup if he plays like he did vs the T-Wolves – which he probably won’t.
"What happened to Bayless anyway? Did he turn into a pumpkin? Most teams don’t just let #11 picks rot." - Xiane
fan voters always lag 2+ years behind reality
when it comes to aging former superstarts. Those guys always get an extra 2 or 3 starts that they don’t deserve. Duncan will take a spot from a more deserving player this year.

bummer
Amare Stoudemire is listed as a center, despite not playing as one since the days of Marion. That’ll hurt Oden’s chances.
Stoudemire, Bynum and Nene all seem like they’re standing in front of Oden now.
(Oden might actually have a shot with the fan vote however…)
I said two
but I hope I’m wrong. I’d love to see Roy, LMA, and GO make it.

you have to understand how they name the teams...but the ballot looks good for Oden
with Roy, it’s not about stats – he hasn’t made the team as a starter, with guard like Kobe, Paul, and D Williams in the West that’s hard to do. He is named by the coaches as a reserve, so his naming is less dependent on stats. I think he will still make the team this year.
Lamarcus won’t. With Dirk, Duncan, Durant, Melo, etc. there’s no way he’s going to make the team. Sure he’s having a solid year, but he hasn’t done anything to supplant those other guys. Dirk and Melo are KILLING right now, and Durant and Duncan will get named as reserves for sure
Oden actually has a good chance. I was looking at the ballot, and his only major competition is from Stoudemire and Bynum – but since Bynum is hurt again, Greg could be the next guy in line. Remember, is is one of the league’s leading shot-blockers and rebounders, it’s not like he’s just getting in on status.
In the end though, it depends on what the Blazers do. If they go into the All-Star break on a tear and we’re one of the top 3-4 teams in the West, then we might get 2 players on the team. But if we sputter and w’ere not playing that well, and we’re more in the 5-8 in the West range, only Roy will make the team, if that

I'll give anyone on here 10:1 odds that Roy is the only Blazer that will make the All-Star team.
Any takers?
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
I'll take the bet
as long as I also win if Roy doesn’t go.
Disclaimer: everything I know about basketball I learned on Blazersedge.
and he'll probably make it without enough fan votes
like past 2 years
Roy makes it on rep alone
At least one Blazer has to go…..unless Oden really starts killing, I doubt he makes it. Too many Forwards in the West for LMA. BRoy has the rep, been there before, and as the leader of playoff team and contender he gets the nod
Chain Bayless to the bench
Yeah, Roy will get in because opposing coaches love him.
Or at the very least, respect his game.
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
West starting center will be Amar'e
and Greg won’t have the stats to make it as a backup (Bynum the early favorite).
Roy’s got some major competition at backup guard – Deron, Manu, Nash, Parker, Billups, Roy. Figure at best 3 of those 6 guys will make it. If injuries don’t thin that herd, then wow….
Lock in Carmelo and Duncan (who probably won’t deserve it) at the forward spot, which leaves Aldridge, Boozer, Durant, Pau, Nowitzki, and West vying for 3 backup spot. I’d put Durant as a lock at this point.
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

If we continue the 3 guard lineup, and win with it
Oden will get the coaches nod over bynum because the triple guard line up creates the ball movement to recognize when oden is getting position and dump it in to him. At that rate, he only needs to be onthe floor for 25 minutes or so per game to post big enough stats to warrant the spot over bynum
unless oden randomly starts being able to stay on the floor
AND bynum’s elbow explodes i dont think it will happen. those are big ifs. me thinks.
despite oden’s success. i have the feeling htat perception of him around the league isn’t as high as it is on bynum. within the league. but i could be wrong.
Melo deserves it
Nowitzki should start at PF.

I think Oden will make the team. I want him healthy and rested though so am not that
much on board with ANY of the players being on the ALL STAR team. I think it’s good for the player’s resumé but that’s about it. Fun to watch but really would rather give the players on our team a REST at the all star break!!
It's technicly Oden's 2nd year
He could play in the rookie-sophomore challenge.

i never understood that sentiment: "start voting now"
like as a true nba fan wouldn’t you wait till the last possible day to vote? thats when i wait.
oh wait… unless fan voting is just for voting in your favorite players.
forgot about that. I really want to do away with fan voting unilaterally.
You can vote every day
If you start voting now then you will get more votes.

Regina Spektor - Back of a Truck
Death Cab for Cutie - Little Bribes

Devendra Banhart - Long Haired Child
that would kind of be against the spirit of what im saying, wouldn't it?
you should vote for players who deserve to be in based on the games they play THIS year.
voting now and every day until then makes what im saying even more egregious. clearly you didn’t read what i wrote.
This is the problem, but I also feel fan voting is stupid
GM voting would be more appropriate.
Voting feels pointless
West starting 5: Lock it in now, I guarantee it:
Paul
K*be
Duncan
‘Melo
Amar’e (or however he apotrophises it now)
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

and if Duncan doesn't get voted in by the fans
he’ll be selected as a backup all-star center, not PF, as long as he’s healthy
Gasol could also be in this category
tough row to hoe for Oden, he needs to get real busy to even get a sniff. Fortunately for Greg, Miller’s now in the starting lineup
I voted 1 (Roy)
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
agree
I don’t see Greg making the all star team, nor do I think he deserves it. I think the coaches will put Duncan or Dirk as the backup 5, with Amare as the starter. The “last spot” will go to Deron Williams, even if the roster is unbalanced.
agreed
Those are your starting 5. Only way they change is if a chinese player is added to the ballot. Doesn’t really have to be Ming.
I think Oden wins by a landslide...
All those chinese basketball fans are so used to relentlessly voting for Yao, so I think they’re going to relentlessly vote for SOMEBODY just out of habit, and they’ll pick Greg because he’s got the happiest, friendliest mug shot among the nominees.
That’s probably entierely wrong. But it sounds good. _
by conspirator5 on Nov 10, 2009 7:57 PM PST up reply actions
do you really think ROY should be above those two guys?
you sound like those guys dont deserve it or something.
Eeek...
It might be nobody….. Unless the coaches vote them in…. but even then…. how many are the coaches allowed to vote in??
Oden and LMA could take votes from each other
Here’s my prediction: When it comes time for the coaches to vote, Roy will be an obvious choice, then they’ll say our team deserves to have two all stars and try to decide between Oden and Aldridge, and half go one way and half go the other. There’s more competition at the forward spot, so I’m going to say it’ll be Oden. Recently people try to decide how many all stars a team should have, then see if they have guys with the numbers. I think we’ll be like the Hornets when everyone was trying to decide between West or Chandler.
Your confusing thesis has captured my attention. Tell me more.
yep
this happened back in ‘94 I think. Drexler, Strickland, and Robinson all were putting up backup all star numbers on a pretty good team. None of them made it but a couple of people less deserving did. I am still convinced they 3-way split the coaches’ vote, knocking them all out.
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

I think LMA is gonna be the token Blazer this year...
Deron Williams will get the nod over Roy, since he is overdue.
Can’t very well leave the Blazers out though and I have a hunch that LMA is gonna be putting up some intercontinental ballistic stats with the new Uptempo approach…
"A bizarre and extremely rare hybrid Blazer/Laker fan, Timbo has always struggled to contain the Beast Within, like Dr. Jekyll, Bruce Banner, or Ted Kennedy." — Miled Animal
Yeah, Tony Parker has thus far had a down season.
Brandon Roy, Deron Williams, and Steve Nash will most likely be the three backup guards on the 2010 Western Conference All-Star team.
Dear Paul Allen:
Fire Nate McMillan & hire Jeff Van Gundy.
Sincerely,
AK1984
Greg is growing into his role and everything
but geez, Chris Kaman’s numbers are twice as good. Greg is not even close to an all-star at this point.
I think Roy and Aldridge will make it
Oden is a longshot, and I hope he does but I’m only hedging bets for two Blazers in an All-star uni come February.
Blazers win!
Roy is a lock
Oden is a strong contender if he can keep up his recent level of performance due to position scarcity.
I hate Comcast
Card carrying member of Team Bayless
I need to stop being so hard on Steve Blake. Even though I'd rather see him as a top 5 backup PG than an undersized starting SG, he's a Bazer, he works hard, he has earned respect.
If they do not classify PFs as centers
Oden would be a near lock. Duncan and A’mare are PF, or if Duncan is a center (like he plays), then he should be listed as a center on the ballot every year. (I understand it was because of ming and shaq)
Roy will make it
Aldridge has virtually no chance— if Gasol gets back to playing soon, he, along with Anthony, Durant, Nowitzki and Duncan are locks to be ahead of Aldridge, and I highly doubt they will be taking 6 forwards.
Oden also has very little chance. Bynum or Amare will win the fan vote and both Kaman and Nene are quite a bit ahead of Oden in terms of overall contributions (minutes are a factor here).
My projected allstar team (not who I think SHOULD make it but who I think WILL make it):
FAN VOTED STARTERS
G Chris Paul
G Kobe Bryant
F Carmelo Anthony
F Tim Duncan
C Amare Stoudemire
-——————————————
RESERVES
G Brandon Roy
G Deron Williams
F Dirk Nowitzki
F Pau Gasol
C Andrew Bynum
G Steve Nash
F Kevin Durant
Don't forget, 2 or 3 guys always do not go due to injury issues
I wouldn’t be surprised at seeing LA as a first time all-star due to injuries, but it would depend on who is hurt or dinged up at the time of the AS game.
This is undoubtedly a possibility
If one of the above listed forwards is out due to injury, LA will have to beat out the likes of Carlos Boozer and David West, and there is a solid chance he could do so if he gets back to his form from the 2nd half of last year and the Blazers have substantial success as a team.
Jacob, looks like your Joakim Noah possible pick will have to wait another year.
by MiledAnimal on Nov 10, 2009 12:59 PM PST up reply actions
uh, really?
Do you realize he’s currently #3 in PER among Centers (Howard and Duncan)— and this a stat which overrates scorers and underrates guys with significant outside the boxscore contributions like Noah.
Right now, Noah is clearly the guy who is most deserving of the backup C spot in the East. That may change, but my pick is looking quite good right now.
ah, now I see that he was left off the ballot
That is an absolute joke and travesty. However, I still like his chances to be voted in by the coaches if he continues his current level of play.
fortunately for Noah (and you)
whether or not he is on the ballot is completely irrelavent. Howard is a mortal lock to start at center, and coaches pick the reserves, and I have never seen or heard of any correlation between fan voting among non-starters and coaches’ selection.
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

all stars
Sentimentally one would like to think Blazers get more than 1 all star, but I think a hardheaded realism forces you to estimate that only Brandon Roy makes it.
The Blazers are a deep team, that will make it hard for any individual player to build up the kind of stats that gets them on the all stars, with the exeption of Roy who’se already reached the necessary stature.
Oden
Look for Oden to be competitive for the all stars in 2010-2011.
Where's Cunningham??

I looked for him under the last name ‘Rudy’ rather than ‘Fernandez’.
That is all.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
My Allstar teams would make a nice movie
RAMBO 1 (the one with Batum) + Durant
versus
R2D2 + Lopez
(Rose, Rondo, Diaw, Deng, Brook Lopez)
I predict...
That R2D2 rescues a chained up, bikini-clad Sylvester Stallone on Stan Van Gundy’s sail barge.
Well, I at least got one thing right here.
On 10/9/2009, I made the following prediction.
“Also, I expect Amar’e Stoudemire will be listed as a center on the ballot. So, even if Yao Ming is somehow voted as a starter by dumb Chinese fans in spite of his injury, there’ll be an adequate replacement for him. Additionally, Tim Duncan can continue to carry on the façade that he’s a power forward.”
http://www.blazersedge.com/2009/10/8/1077513/rudys-minutes-if-so-who-suffers#22523387
I, by the way, am thankful Yao Ming was left off of the ballot, for that’ll prevent any shenanigans from overseas fans. That said, my other crazy All-Star prediction from last month — which was that Greg Oden would make the team as a reserve — was premature and will likely come back to bite me. Right now, Andrew Bynum stands a much better chance of making the squad for a variety of legitimate and superficial reasons.
Dear Paul Allen:
Fire Nate McMillan & hire Jeff Van Gundy.
