While this is true and extremely sad, he’s fighting it and has a good chance to overcome it. My thoughts and prayers are with him!

CML
is perhaps one of the most treatable, least dangerous forms of leukemia, or of any kind of cancer. It’s bad news, but the prognosis is usually very good.

That's good to hear
Cancer is a bummer, I don’t care what ANYONE says.
He’s a legend, and I’m glad that it seems like one of the more treatable forms of leukemia.

This was my take from the Yahoo piece
Sure, all cancer is dangerous, and most victims try to put the best face on their situation. But apparently this form of Leukemia is highly treatable. Kareem should return to health.

I hope he beats it
I’ll always remember him as the co-pilot in Airplane!, but apparently he was also this offensive force at center for the L*kers that kept us from countless titles.
Good luck Kareem, next time I’m on the playground I’ll shoot some crudely orchestrated skyhooks for ya.

That is sad. I’ve also read that it is more treatable, so hopefully he’ll be back on with his life soon.

Knowing Kareem
He’ll beat it as well as he beat NBA defenses during his career and he’ll be back in no time.
GET WELL SOON KAREEM!

It sounds like this has actually been going on for nearly a year already, so that much is good.
I suspect that it’s coming out now since Kareem has been in the news as a potential consultant to the Grizzlies and there have been rumblings about his doing so not being a slam dunk due to “time commitments” etc. That is, news would probably be leaking anyway…
Good luck to Kareem, he’s a really good dude.
