"Per 48 Minutes" stats = Good news for Bayless
So, everyone knows that Bayless can put his head down, drive to the basket, score and/or pick up a foul. The question has been more if he can work as a point guard.
Nate claims that he's going to give Bayless 5-10 mins a game, see how he does with it, possibly earn more minutes from there. Bayless seems to have seized the opportunity. He currently leads the team with 10.4 AST, and has a respectable 35.5 PTS per 48 minutes. Granted, he's only played in 2 games averaging 11.5 MPG-- he's on the right track. I expect/hope to see that trend to continue through the 5 game road trip.
If Bayless can get twice as much playing time over the course of the season and not drop off in average prooduction per minute, his stats would be at 16 PPG, 5 APG, in 23 minutes of playing time. I believe those numbers are feasible. I would love to see his season go that way. He still has a very high ceiling.

Channing Frye...
will continue to shoot 49% from 3 this year and will be on pace for 240 3’s if he doesn’t drop off in average production.

No, that probably will not happen
i’m just saying— bayless is hungry. more realistically, i think if he were to get 17 mpg, i say he nets 9 ppg, 4 assists.
last year, he played in 53 games. a much bigger sample size to extrapolate from. double those stats and you get, 25 mpg, 8.6 ppg, and 3 apg.
he’s obviously improved since then, and he’s shown the ability to score at a high rate on a number of occasions. 23 pts, 3 rbds, and 3 asts, in 25 min vs the nets was his best. of course he’s not going to do that in every game, but he’s very talented, and he works hard.
depending on what the blazers can do with the evolution of their 3 guard lineup, he may have just found his niche with this team this year.

I wanted to just stop there, but..
All these thoughts of his potential future with the Blazers, yet it seems like they could just be priming him for a trade. If that happens, I’m thinking he possibly gets packaged with one of our SFs in exchange for a quality backup PF/C, and another vet.
Either way, we’re looking pretty thin at that position. Not sure who they’d want to go after though. A player like Louis Amundson seems to fit the bill. Low salary, and so far this year, he’s putting up 5.3 PPG, and 5 RPG, in 16.9 MPG.
Who knows— I’d like to see this team intact as long as possible, but I just don’t like Outlaw for backup PF in against most teams. Other than him, it’s just Howard. And what if Joel or Oden go down for 10 games. See? Suddenly a lack of bigs. Pendergraph will probably be a great 2nd or 3rd PF option, but who knows how that will actually pan out.
Whether Bayless is involved or now, look for the Blazers to add solid backup PF/C by the trade deadline if not sooner.

blair?
Blair is a terrible defender and a non-entity on offense. He’s a rebound machine, but that’s it.
And McDyess is a soft, 18 footer machine at this point in his career (and yes, I realize the same could be said about Aldridge). Only Duncan is a high quality interior player.

Blair is averaging 14.5 points/36 minutes with outstanding efficiency, in addition to being a top 5 rebounder in the league
He is not a non-entity on offense. He’s a high quality backup big.

Jerryd Bayless
Also averages 11.0 personal fouls per 36 minutes, which means he would foul out about 18 or 19 mins into your proposed 23 minute stint.
Not that you can extrapolate much from the 30 minutes he’s played this year, although I think most would agree that despite showing a lot of promise, tools, and effort on defense, Jerryd Bayless cannot get extended run if he continues to give up free throws due to overagressiveness on the perimeter.

I like how Nate's used Bayless so far
He’s been put in at the end of quarters where the opponent is at or near the penalty. Allowing Rex to put on a FT clinic as a result of his bombing down the lane.
Also nice to see some outside shots fall last game. He looked much more settles than the Spurs game, but I suppose there is a bit of difference between being defended by the Spurs and being defended by the T’Wolves.
I’m also impressed how much Bayless has helped to prevent abysmal 2nd quarter scoring droughts like we saw in the first few games.

Great observation
That’s the mark of a good coach – put the talent in the best position to succeed. While Bayless is very agressive on D, which can hurt in the penalty, his knack for drawing fouls is even more of an asset when a bump/grab on his first step means a trip to the line.
I hate Comcast
Card carrying member of Team Bayless
I need to stop being so hard on Steve Blake. Even though I'd rather see him as a top 5 backup PG than an undersized starting SG, he's a Bazer, he works hard, he has earned respect.
