Yup, also
The Blazers won the NBA championship in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. Blazers lost to the newly reformed Seattle SuperSonics in 2013, who were able to clone the entire 1996 Chicago Bulls teams in their primes, sadly though they only had a lifespan of 1 year. Greg Oden become a monster for the rest of his career, but admitted to steroid use at the end of his career. Regardless he still made it into the hall of fame, ironically Pete Rose is still denied the baseball hall of fame. Brett Favre come out of retirement and lead the Packers to 3 straight superbowl victories before retiring for good.

Blazers made a mistake by not telling Channing to shoot 3s as opposed to long twos. With all our stat geeks, you'd think someone would have been on that.
Not that he’ll keep it up at this pace, but the Suns are using him much more intelligently than the Blazers did.
I always said
He had talent, he just wasn’t going to get a chance with us.
His style is also not our style. Too much back to the basket for NAte.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I seriously doubt the coaching staff was actively telling him to shoot long 2's
If anything, they just weren’t emphasizing his need to step back and make 3’s. I’m sure with Phoenix’s style of play, they’ve done there best to tell him to shoot the long ball.
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
hard to believe anyone missed his secret ability to hit 3's
considering his first four seasons he was a combined 20 for 70 beyond the arc
World's phoniest apology-- "I'm sorry."
Either way really
If you hit 1 of 20 three pointers, it’s still more efficient than 1 of 30 2-pointers with a toe or foot on the line.
Oh, gotcha
Just saying that even when the shots aren’t going in, the three pointer is still more efficient when you eventually hit one, vs the long two pointer.
It’s just never a good idea to take a shot with a foot on the line. Frye seems to have fixed that now.
i guess
33% from 3 is the same as 50% from 2 range… but there are alot of players whose range doesn’t quite eek beyond the arc. So an inch or two can make a real difference, especially if a guy has to consciously check whether or not he’s behind the line as opposed to shooting the shot without double checking
World's phoniest apology-- "I'm sorry."
Durant just can't get it done against us
Doing that without Thunder killer LMA is pretty good.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely

the bench played poorly
except for Travis of course. Andre Miller had a terrible line. His total lack of an outside shot really seems to have been exposed. He’s not doing anything to take away Blake’s starting position

Blake definately showed why he should be on the court at the end tonight
With that kick out from Roy for the 3 that really put it away.

World's phoniest apology-- "I'm sorry."
Yeah
On a side note, the OKC announcers were saying he was “so horrible on defense last night that he only played 14 minutes”. I was like, whaat? He still makes LMA look awesome on D and on the glass though.
So if Bargs played like a 5 year vet he would win ROY over a rook? I agree.

Al Jefferson & Ryan Hollins
Not to totally discount his performance, but he’s not exactly going up against Dwight Howard.
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
Ryan Hollins has the length and athleticism to give Andrea Bargnani trouble, but Al Jefferson is ...
definitely a glorified Zach Randolph. For the Minnesota T’wolves, getting a good return on Jefferson should be one of David Kahn’s top priorities. Trading the draft rights of Ricky Rubio to the New York Knicks next summer for unprotected first-round draft picks in 2012, 2014, and 2016 should be another order of business.

seriously,
I’ve noticed that the game seems to be called differently for perimeter players and for bigs. He can get mauled fighting for rebounds and position and never get a call, but guards/forwards can drive from the perimeter, initiate a light touch and draw a foul. No consistency between the perimeter and the post officiating.
"B-Roy is the best shooting guard I have played against"
-Ron Artest
We need some 7'+ refs that know what its like to get mauled in the post
I also hate the Wade play where a player lowers his head and shoulder and bowls into a post player to get a foul call
Aut disce, aut discede; manet sors tertia, caedi
by Occam's Blazer on Nov 1, 2009 6:56 PM PST up reply actions
problem is,
roy tries to do the same thing, (albeit to limited effect). I don’t mind the game being called uniformly (definitely will make us more formidable defensively as our centers won’t foul out constantly if refs swallow their whistles instead of calling a foul whenever an opposing guard flails to the ground after losing the ball out of bounds)
"B-Roy is the best shooting guard I have played against"
-Ron Artest
I think there is a difference between Wade and Roy's game though.
It seems Roy makes an attempt to get to the rim. While he might yell to draw attention he rarely throws himself into the opposing players. He seems like he’s actually attempting a shot, rather than simply trying to draw free throws.

I haven't seen Wade at all this year, and only saw him last year during
the home blowout. So I won’t comment on his game here as I am not well informed, other than knowing he is tops in the league at getting to the line. I agree with you though that Roy’s game is different, that’s why I put that disclaimer that he does it to a “limited effect”. I love Roy’s game because he is so under control, except for when he is about to shake and bake or cross over, and then you’re just like “I can’t believe he did that”.

"B-Roy is the best shooting guard I have played against"
-Ron Artest
That's the way the NBA is being officiated
Refs protect the stars and shooters. It has become more and more a perimeter-shooting, slash to the basket type of game.
yea I know,
sometimes I think those rules were only implemented in order to give K@be a fighting chance at emulating MJ.
"B-Roy is the best shooting guard I have played against"

See the restricted area
Or as I call it, the “Shaq rule” Implemented so Shaq could dunk on people without always getting called for charging.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I hate the restricted area
that rule has got to go. And while they are at it get rid of the defensive 3 second call which apparently is like offensive holding in football and can be called whenever the refs feel like.
World's phoniest apology-- "I'm sorry."
That was due to the elminiaton of illegal defense
This is only slighly more understandable than that was.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
To be fair there is a safety arguement to be made in the implimentation of the restricted area.
If, as fans, we want to see highlight dunks we have to protect the players from being undercut while they are in the air, at full speed, around the rim

on fast breaks with no defense back… but Joel shouldnt get the whistle because his heel is on the line and his arms stright up when Jeff Green comes flying into the key out of control
World's phoniest apology-- "I'm sorry."
Agreed
But as a basketball player being undercut is one of the worst feelings in the world. Some discretion should be given to referees as to whether the offensive player is out of control or not, while still protecting the offensive player. How, I have no idea…

being undercut
I see just as much if not more players being undercut knowing all they have to do is the lambo leap into the bigs knowing they get the call. The rule was designed to make the game more interesting to the lame-o couch-bot who needs to see nba jam type dunks to remain entertained… BOOM SHAKALAKA!!
World's phoniest apology-- "I'm sorry."
I would agree that
players throw themselves into bigs to get calls. However, there is a difference between that play and a player jumping into the air and having an opposing player slide underneath him, establishing position under the rim. i think players need a safe landing zone
Aut disce, aut discede; manet sors tertia, caedi
by Occam's Blazer on Nov 1, 2009 7:27 PM PST up reply actions
its a contact sport that involves risk of injury
and I hear what you are saying. But under the rim shouldn’t extend out as far as the restricted zone does. Under the rim is under the rim. Not under the rim, let them play D
World's phoniest apology-- "I'm sorry."
My arguement to that is that since players in the NBA are jumping from so far away,
they need the extra space to land. However, your point is well taken that players should have to weigh the risk of being injured with the reward that would come from throwing themselves at the basket in order to get a shot from closer in

the latter would really benefit us right now...lol
But it’s left in place to limit the over-effectiveness of playing zone in the paint, versus driving scorers (which make the games more exciting and TV-friendly)
Lakers-Hawks is off to a good start on League Pass

I still want to see an on court fight between Kobe and Artest
That’d be awesome.

What is the Artest grumbling due to?

Lack of D
Tendency to shoot his team out of games.

So Artest being Artest? Who woulda thunk it. His D was slipping even last year

Too much shooting

He just got a 4-points play
Against Kobe, sweet.

He was like that at UCLA
Often reckless and trying too hard to make the difference himself.

but he was drawing fouls like crazy.

Just needs to learn to play under control more.

yea,
good thing we didn’t get a chance at him, he would be riding the pine just like Bayless.
In fact, I think Westbrook should be used as proof that Bayless needs minutes on the court. Almost makes you feel bad that the blazers are in “win now” mode.

I agree 100%
except, even in “win now” mode, I think Bayless would help this team if given minutes

Last year's team no,
but this year’s team yes. The execution is so bad right now, I don’t think another fearless driver would hurt at all.

why can't Bayless get 5 minutes a half
to just come in and try to frustrate their PG?

Someone tell Nate it's JBs sophomore season

How about those painful, -276 (per 48, lol) minutes Nate has Steve and Andre together

are you serious?
they are -276 together per 48? That is obscene.

My bad, thought the self-lol made it clear I was kidding. Obviously, I didn’t make the joke clear.
I am serious, though, about Miller-Blake being a poor combo. Rather than do that, even in limited minutes, I’d go with Bayless

I agree with you
I was just curious where you can get stats about what lineups have been used and whatnot. 82games hasn’t updated for this season last time I checked…
I'd love to see the numbers on that combo
It has been ugly (or at least it looks that way)
I hate Comcast.

I didn't understand the Andre lane violation
anybody catch on to what MB and Rice were saying about that? They made it sound like the ref was getting uppity on ’dre
World's phoniest apology-- "I'm sorry."
not sure if you deliberately used that word,
but I’d advise against it.

Cant cross the 3 point line until after the ball is released
They said that it is never called in the nba. Cant say I have ever seen it happen before..
That wasn't the problem. Miller was supposedly talking with the ref while the OKC player was shooting. It was the refs fault that he didn't tell him to get behind the line.
You looking for a good time?
it sounded like the ref was telling andre where to be
and andre sorta non-chalanted the ref who then blew the “dont upstage me” whistle
World's phoniest apology-- "I'm sorry."
I've never seen traveling called on one team 5 times in one quarter either...

Neither team is playing much D
At all. Memphis shooting 58%, Denver 56%.

ugly win is still a win
Finally the boys sealed the deal and kept OKC from coming back at the end. But damn, it was ugly.
Impressed with Webster and Oden the last few games, besides those two FT’s in the Denver game.
Impressed by TO's renewed effort on boards
He’s getting better at timing those jumps.

Tied. I can go to bed in peace. This counts.
But slowly things happen that they cannot help and the Blazers Fellowship of the Ring begins to break apart
Channing Frye's numbers are an aberration to start the season, so he'll come back down to earth.
Regarding Nate McMillan, there’s several reasons to criticize him — such as his inability to coach the pick-and-roll on other side of the ball, his lack of tactical skills on offense, avoidence of establishing a proficient low-post game with his prodigious pivotman, rigid nature, et cetera — yet, you can’t entirely blame him for Frye’s ineffectiveness last season. Besides, Frye’s huge games have come against the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves — which are two teams that make me gag — so that’s not an impressive feat in my book.
Dear Paul Allen:
Waive Patty Mills & sign Ime Udoka.
Sincerely,
AK1984
yeah, I think the Blazers should have emphasized "no long twos with your foot on the line" to Frye
but to be fair, he wasn’t making any of his shots last year and was frankly all around terrible. Frye has traditionally shot well every other year, so he was due to be “on” this year. He’ll continue to be a poor rebounder and defender, but at least he’ll be somewhat of a weapon on offense now that he’s shooting 3s. It will be interesting to see what % he ends up with.
... and 5 rebounds in 36 minutes.
Phoenix’s system may be the most shooter friendly in the league, especially with Nash. Even Tim Thomas played decently on offense for them. Frye will likely put up better numbers (though probably not at the current level), but that only means is that he is a somewhat better fit there than maybe on any other team.
damn memphis scored 122 points
if we play them, i dont see us scoring that much
Trade for Luis Amundson!!Do it KP!!
it was a very fast paced game. When they play us, the pace will be much slower.
Memphis is an improved team this year, but the Blazers still ought to be able to handle them.
