Fernandez would get his second consecutive games off after playing just 17 minutes in the exhibition opener. McMillan said he is giving him extra rest because he played high-level competition throughout the summer for the Spanish National Team.
So much for the “let’s see how Rudy handles the ball during the preseason games” experiment

there is still more preseason to be played after tonight
Tonight is all about RAMBO he needs batman for that & probably wants to see more out of Miller vs Blake. If after preseason he decides Rudy can handle the point it does make Blake a bit more expendable

?
still another 5 games to go this preseason. but i don’t think rudy needs this much rest honestly.

He was also playing with a sore hamstring at the end of Eurobasket.
It was never clear exactly what the injury was. It was first reported as a tear. By holding him out tonight he gets a full week between preseason games.

I liked the Batum vs Rudy comment
So why is Nicolas Batum starting and Rudy Fernandez taking a DNP? They both played a lot in the Euro League, didn’t they? No, that couldn’t be it. What could make Nate McMillan, Head Coach of the Portland Trailblazers, START one of these two young men and REST the other one. What COULD it be? Hmm … let’s see … oh, I don’t know .. could it be …?
RAMBO!!!???

because when Nate went to ask Nic how he felt
and Batum gave him that “don’t even think about it” look

or...
it could be because one went further than the other in the eurobasket tournament? there’s the serious answer.
by Evanescent on Oct 9, 2009 4:21 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
you do realize...
France and Spain played the exact same number of games in the tournament (9), that Batum played all 9 of France’s games, while Rudy played in 8 of Spain’s games, and that the last 3 games of the tournament for each team were on the exact same dates?
How did you guys win that?

and France had to play its way in to the tournament.

Good timing
Well, I have to say the timing for this lineup is perfect, since the Blazers/Clippers’ “no TV coverage” marketing strategy effectively convinced me to buy tickets to tonight’s game. Being a Blazer fan in LA, I don’t often have the chance to catch the team live for a reasonable price, but preseason Clippers games are not exactly a hot ticket.
I’m looking forward to finally seeing Oden 2.0 (or is it 3.0?) in action, as well as this lineup as a whole. Especially considering that this is the lineup I would most likely to see as our starting group come the regular season. It should also be interesting to get a look at Blake Griffin, who’s set to make his preseason debut tonight.
I’ll try to take some mental notes while I’m at the game (assuming I don’t completely blank out of sheer excitement) so I can post some observations or thoughts after the game. It’s been a while since I posted anything, so this way I’ll come back with something worthwhile.
If anyone else is going, I’ll be the guy in the Roy jersey in Section 318.

or something. I’m going to give it time. Although I’m still a bigger fan of RANBO.
