RAMBO! (credit SalemORguy from BLAZERSEDGE)
UPDATE: Credit goes to SalemORguy from Blazersedge, should this catchphrase make a name this season, NOT ImBlazzin as I originally posted. Know that I'm working on a 2 color stencil shirt for this whole idea and will most likely be making some money on it too! –So get ahold of me SalemORguy, -email keith@zeroninelab.com
I'm sure many of you read the post on Oregonlive about this starting lineup and moniker as posted by ImBlazzin on that site:
RAMBO – Roy : Aldridge : Miller : Batum : Oden
Perfect.
Just wanted everyone else to see your creation on Oregonlive. Nate needs to start the 5 most talented guys on the roster, period. (And those of you who would argue for Webster, realize that Batum's defense is way more important in the starting lineup than coming off the bench)

Lets get this freakin season underway already!

Last names, Cheif.
It’d be RAMWO… which doesn’t exactly make sense.

after games where they start slow but end up blowing out the other team, Roy can sit at the table ignoring questions with a thousand yard stare muttering “They drew first blood, man, they drew first blood…”

I was at the FanFest . . .
and I still think Blake will be the starter. I’ll agree that Miller may have
more PG creative skills and post up moves, but he will have the ball in
his hands a LOT and that hurts BRoy’s productivity. Blake is a better fit
with Roy (ala Jordan with John Paxson), but I belive that they will both play
22 to 28 minutes depending on matchup and 4th quarter finish.
Does it really matter who starts ? It may to the players, but if we are truly
going to be a TEAM, I hope this is not the mindset. It’s how we finish !
Blake – Excellent A/TO ratio, good spacing, excellent 3 pt shooting as an outlet
for Roy drive and kick & post guys.
Miller – Creative with ball, very good post PG, medium range game/drive very good,
but will take away some of Roy’s strengths.
* Niether are very good on defense – Average to below average.
It's GO time !

Millers defense is much better than Blakes as far as I could see last night. Miller was calling out rotations, and directing the D.
It’s not even close in my mind. Miller is leagues better than Blake, and will play much more minutes.
by dario argento on Oct 7, 2009 3:43 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes sir.
Neither are very quick on D anymore, but Miller can guard 2’s, fights through picks, and actually directs the defense. Hollinger had him rated only slightly behind Hinrich on defense last season. Since quicker PG’s kill everyone now, it’s really the stronger point guards who are a bonus on defense. Blake can’t defend Tony Parker very well and neither can Miller, but Miller can guard Billups and Kidd just fine, while Blake can’t.
“Kirk Hinrich (-6.09) re-established himself as one of the league’s better defenders in the backcourt after missing some time with an injury, though you wish he wouldn’t leave his feet quite so much. I’ve never thought quite as highly of Andre Miller (-4.40) or Raymond Felton (-2.36), but each defended both backcourt spots more than adequately and their strong adjusted plus-minus numbers warrant a shout-out here, too "-Hollinger

Maybe most important - the ability to feed the post and Greg
From all indications Andre excels at this while Steve in past years has been very limited.
Greg is our most important offensive weapon. Why?
1. He forces a double team down low opening up the outside for easy open shots.
2. He appears ready to be our most efficient scorer. I would not be shocked to see him above 60% FG% and his FT% at over 75% (83.3% last night) brings his TS% to the top (Last year Nene led the league with 64.5% TS% shooting 60.4% FG% and 72.3% FT%.).
3. Greg’s presence disrupts defensive schemes against Roy – with Andre on the floor nobody can double Roy in the backcourt without Andre and Greg making them pay. Roy will be more efficient as will all the shooters.
4. The slam dunk is an emotional boost for the team and a deflater for the opponent. It takes home crowds out of t5he game and brings home crowds to life. With the threat of a slam from Greg the defense sell out to stop him leading to point #5.
5. Greg will cause serious foul problems for opposing bigs if he gets the ball on the block consistently.
This offense needs to run through Greg. Andre appears to be the right point guard for Greg. Whichever unit Greg plays with calls for Andre as well. I am a loyalist to Steve. I want Steve to win this competition – but so far there is early indication that it is not a contest.
RAMBO works for me!

Rec! And another rec for Andre paired with Greg…
Personally, I hope they both are on the 2nd unit… what an incredible weapon…

I get all these points
But in a way, I think it’s selling both Brandon and Andre short. These are both very talented players, and both are credited with having really high BBIQs. Brandon has been good at doing what he does because that is what he HAD to do. Do I think it’ll take some serious adjustment on his part to figure out how to make this work? Sure. Do I get the feeling there is a little reticence on his part based on comfort level? Sure. But Brandon hasn’t played with a point guard who can make things happen like Dre. I really think in time he’ll warm up to the idea once he sees some of the doors Miller can open for him.
Remember all the doubles and triples that Brandon started getting thrown at him last year. You just can’t play like that forever. I see them playing together where Brandon becomes the second wave point guard if Andre doesn’t work magic in the first 10 seconds. And if the game is on the line at the end? Sure run a one, four Brandon play as usual and have Dre set the screen and then get into midrange where he’s money. We don’t have to take the ball all the way out of Brandon’s hands to make this work. Just give Dre the earlier part of the shot clock and Brandon the later. It’s still better than a less creative point burning part of the clock (Still love you Blake, though).
Seriously, this will work with two smart players when they get to know one another.

Yes.
Brandon becomes the second wave point guard if Andre doesn’t work magic in the first 10 seconds
RUN with Dre, then if that doesn’t work… hey, how ’bout letting our best 1:1 player give it a shot… Works for me…

You're saying that they look like they're giving it their all. And you know why they look that way? Because they're bad, and it literally takes them the maximum physical effort to accomplish basic baseball tasks like throwing the ball from short to first. When David Eckstein throws the ball to first base, he has to wind up like a shot-putter, spin around forty-three times, and launch it at an angle 89 degrees from the horizontal. Afterwards, he undergoes an IV drip for a fortnight and he's so out of breath that he requires several months of acupuncture to regain the power of speech. For this we laud him. -Junior of Deadspin on 'scrappy' players

"Fernandez, to my eyes, is the Blazer who walks that walk most comfortably. A lot of Portland's fans (egged on, dare I say, by their local broadcasters) lament things like how Ron Artest or Yao Ming get to hit Brandon Roy's arms.
But I suspect Fernandez sees all that and thinks: We get to hit arms! Cool!"

Tony Bennett reports that Minnesota and Portland are swapping draft picks — Roy to Portland, Foye to Minnesota. That’s it? That’s the trade? None of the ESPN guys seem remotely fazed. I knew Kevin McHale couldn’t just pick the best guy in the draft without somehow screwing it up. I would have bet my Ndudi Ebi rookie cards on it.
