Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Likely means Channing will start. That is, unless Clark starts at PF and Amare moves to Center.

Poor Lopez

He was destined to have a break out year. Now he’s gonna be in a weird plastic boot. Hopefully he’ll have a towel or something to twirl around during the Suns’ inexorable march to the NBA Championship.

On the plus side, now Channing will prove us all wrong and make the all star team three years in a row. Tough as nails, that Channing. He gots a new tat of a mean-looking bulldog on his shoulder. He covered up the one of his gramma.

The counsels of impatience and hatred can always be supported by the crudest and cheapest symbols. For the counsels of moderation, the reasons are often intricate, rather than emotional, and difficult to explain. And so the chauvinists of all times and places go their appointed way: plucking the easy fruits, reaping the little triumphs of the day at the expense of someone else tomorrow, deluging in noise and filth anyone who gets in their way, dancing their reckless dance on the prospects for human progress, drawing the shadow of a great doubt over the validity of democratic institutions. And until peoples learn to spot the fanning of mass emotions and the sowing of bitterness, suspicion, and intolerance as crimes in themselves - as perhaps the greatest disservice that can be done to the cause of popular government - this sort of thing will continue to occur.

Is that sarcasm above me?

Channing ftw!

He’ll be putting up some respectable stats here with the Suns & Gun it offense.

What's up with all the broken feet?

Last year Martell. This year Patty Mills and Robin Lopez. It’s the same standard-issue human being, and not some foot-fragile look-alike clone? Are players trying to do things that an earlier generation wasn’t foolish enough to try? Or has shoe design changed so that the shoe provides less support? Or has this always been with us, but just not happening to our players?

If breaks continue to double each season, then every player in the league will be out with a broken foot in 8 seasons.

Don't forget Yao Ming

foot injuries are pretty common for basketball players.

Gentry had already said Frye was likely going to start.

With a weird combo of Amare/Frye playing a 4/5 mix. Frye defense fivespot, offensive 4.

This does equal more minutes for sure though. Which should help me win my bet so I don’t have to buy those tickets for kids! (just kidding, sort of)

Frye-lock and I'm on top rock you like a cop

BOLD PREDICTION TIME

Channing Frye will win the Most Improved Player award.

To do that

he has to average about 5 and 5, right?

OK, seriously, when Channing got PT he performed well for us, he just couldn’t do it on a spot minute basis. And he may well thrive in that system. I could see him putting up some real nice numbers.

But Oden is likely going to win MIP.

As author of Da BOM (Blazer Optimist Manifesto), I hereby certify that we will win 62 games in the regular season. Disagree at your peril.

Oden shouldn't win it

For reasons that he is 2nd year player coming off a rookie year coming off of micro. Ya know I think Oden will be great, but I actually don’t want him to win it because he SHOULD be much better in his 2nd season.

It’s almost a slap in the face for him to win MIP, as if it wasn’t expected that he’d be good.

I don’t think Channing will necessarily be any better, but with minutes and their super fast pace, he’ll get at least 15 and 7. People will see the big jump and how he has been sorta forgotten and go WHOA LOOK AT THAT IMPROVEMENT WHAT WERE THE BLAZERS THINKING LETTING HIM GO, never mind that it wouldn’t be possible for him to do that as a Blazer.

Oden is supposed to be good, so to me he shouldn’t win MIP.

You are right that Oden shouldn't

and that it would be almost a slap in the face. But that’s why he may well win, because it isn’t expected that he will be good. Enough people are buying the “Bust” line that when he comes out and does 15/12/2, he will probably get MIP.

We know he is supposed to be good because we are Blazer fans, and therefore smarter than the unwashed masses (that’s L@ker fans, in case anyone wondered, and the vast majority of media people, which I think is who votes on this).

Of course, maybe Greg will get 25/15/4 in 28 minutes, in which case he’ll win MVP and DPOY, and they’ll give MIP to someone else. For some reason, I don’t think that is too likely.

Of course, if Joel starts all year, maybe Greg wins 6th Man, which would mean Channing could get MIP. I’d be down with that.

I wish we’d had at least one of our championships before Channing left. He’ll never get one, now, unless he comes back when he’s 35 to do the Juwan thing. Too bad.

As author of Da BOM (Blazer Optimist Manifesto), I hereby certify that we will win 62 games in the regular season. Disagree at your peril.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
