The RANT Thread
This may be deleted and no value add for others, but I need to write it or I will damage something in my house.
What is going on??!?!?! The Rockets are going to be a well below .500 team this year. We have mismatches all over the court and yet we're heaving jump shots left and right. Steve Blake? STEVE BLAKE!!?! Let him find his shooting touch when we are ahead by 10. He's zero value add right now, and in fact, was the worst player on the court for the 5th straight half. He's making bad passes, playing mediocre defense and shooting worse than Sergio Rodriguez. Stop playing favorites, NATE! Put in Miller or play Rudy or Roy at PG. The same way you say the starting situation will "work itself out," you should trust that Blake will as well. Stop forcing it!!
Oden owns these guys inside. We go there once and then forget him. And the friggin' calls against him are aggravating! I just want to see the guy play for god sakes. LET HIM PLAY.
Brandon. Brandon! Are you there? Thanks for hitting the threes, but have you forgotten how to get to the hole? There is no shot blocking in there. Make them actually defend you. You'll be surprised at how much less effective they are on offense when we are running them around on defense.
Grrrr! You guys need to get your act straight or we're staring 1-3 in the face. OKC is a really tough game tomorrow. I'm still steamed about Denver. We cannot lose this one as well. Figure it out!

We beat San Antonio last year on Halloween
I know because I was there with my lovely wife, Sarah Palin.

We can't seem to get three scorers in one game
first game was Outlaw, and some late Brandon Roy
2nd game was rudy and roy
tonight was roy and aldridge
for a team this deep and talented, we should not have trouble finding three guys to contribute each night.
Bring back the Uncle Cliffy!
Rudy, Travis, Martell and Steve were a combined 6-24
that was the game, in a nutshell

oh, and everyone who thought the '09-10 Rockets would struggle to find scoring, were wrong

Are they really only able to find annoying people to host the half-time/post-game shows?
I thought that obnoxious kid last year was the worst, but they still managed to find another hard-to-watch person in this akamian guy. He looks like he’s going to swallow his neck, and talks like it

great win for the blazers tonight
our D was outstanding, aaron brooks looked like a little girl trying to slow down blake, and Oden managed to stay on his feet after a totally necessary monster jam.
I'm resigned to the fact that our offense is what it is
we are a jump shooting team, albeit an affective one, due to great offensive rebounding and good individual talents.
This will continue to place us as a good, but never a great team. We can forget about deep playoff runs unless and until our coaching staff and players figure out how to install and effectively run an offensive system that nets us inside baskets much more frequently then at present.
How did you guys win that?

Like Utah, for instance
They don’t have near the talent, but are very good at the pick n roll…lots of inside shots…they’re good at it. It doesn’t seem that hard to run or learn. Why can’t we do this?
The Blazers are indeed "affective," as in "amorphous" and "asexual"...

yeah sure
Stop pretending to even know what your “typo” was. You simply do not know the difference between effect and affect. You’re an average American. Nothing more.

Holy cow
You can practically taste the angst after reading that one. I think even the “above average American” is capable of making a mistake while commenting on niche blog about basketball. Sheesh!
That being said, I think it’s a troubling sign when your two best post players are your back-up point guard and your starting shooting guard.
I want Steve Blake out of there and i want Rex in there...
Is Bayless the key to turning it around? Quite possibly not. But I have had it to the gills both with Blake and with “Power Forward” Travis Outlaw and I wanna see the Blazers pull out of the death spiral before they become the Miami Heat. It’s coming, I can feel it — absolute chemistry collapse.

With you on this Timbo
The good news is a crappy start will make trading those two look better and at this piont I dont care if they are Roy’s best buddies

Blake has been awful
But have you ever seen Bayless play? Dude looked like ish in the summer league. SUMMER LEAGUE.
Couldn’t agree more on Trout, I honestly believe that Howard would be a better backup pf, and that is sayin somethin…
People continue to underrate Houston and overrate Oklahoma City.
Houston will make the playoffs this season, while Oklahoma City will struggle to win 30 games.
Dear Paul Allen:
Waive Patty Mills & sign Ime Udoka.

Houston was awesome with these players
This lineup forced Lakers to game 7 last season. The only big difference is that Ariza replaced Artest, and i think Ariza is better suited. and they always go crazy at home.
I had a dream visiting the Garden!
Did you watch the 4th quarter?
Roy took it to the basket repeatedly, making layups and and-ones, and generally abusing Ariza on defense (of course Ariza was pretty unstoppable on offense himself). How anyone could have any issue with Brandon’s game tonight is a mystery. It’s the rest of the team and the coach that I am worried about….
Yeah. That's a knee-jerk reaction
based on him making a lot of threes early.
first off, roy had 42, what are you complaining about
last year, we were 1-3.
we finished with 54 wins.
We’re playing play-off teams close despite having no chemistry or defense
Once this team figures it out (ahem, miller starting), we will be fine

He was terrible today.
I thought he did a decent job of staying in front of Brooks the first half, but he wasn’t able to fight through screens later on and Houston got too many mismatches. He’s in a shooting slump this year too, which is taking away his value on offense.
I'm not really worried about the offense
Although it’s not great, I don’t think it’s terrible, either.
To me, the problem is that the Blazers seem not at all interested in defending, worse even than last year. The Maybe that’s somewhat to be expected with the absence of Batum, but it just seems to me that they haven’t bought in to the idea that defense makes the difference between the good teams and the great teams. I’ve watched two of Boston’s games so far and the difference in effort on defense is astounding.
I
Travis has his traditional slow start. Not worried about him, was just hoping for more after his summer workouts.
Blake: I don’t really care if he starts or not, I care that he can’t inbound balls for the past years without taking timeouts or overlooking open players. Nate, please let a different player do that. Since we need Roy on the floor mostly receiving it maybe Rudy or Martell, the advantage is that often teams tend to forget the player who inbounded the ball in shooting situations and he gets wide open looks.
But slowly things happen that they cannot help and the Blazers Fellowship of the Ring begins to break apart
Good idea! Maybe we should have an official RANT thread every day where everyone puts all their negativity they need to get out, much like a trade drawer and Junk Drawer.
I’m tired of seeing us get burned by quick Point Guards. It is a serious problem again. Aaron Brooks looks like the single greatest Point guard to ever play the game when he plays the Blazers. We need to try something different on those guys cuz what we’re doing ain’t working…at all. Take away Brooks from Houston last night and I think we win that game quite comfortably.
And Brooks was matched up against Blake most of the night! WTF! I was so excited to see Dre post up those midget PG’s to try and get them out of the game, but nope. Point guard play and Point guard defense looks to be our achilles heel again.
The other thing that hurt
was even when the rest of the D cheated over to help Blake/Dre, the Rockets were shooting the lights out, Ariza in particular. I’m scared of what’s going to happen when we see Parker, Nash, and CP3, although New Orleans’ wings have been terrible so sagging might work with them.
I hate Comcast.

Yeah Steve Blake Sucks...
Scored 18 BIG pts. 4-5 on 3’s… including the dagger late… played better D than Miller tonight (actually worked hard denying Westbrook and applying some pressure).
Relax!.. We’re 4 games into the season and we could have… and probably should have won them all.
It’s a long season and this is the NBA. We’ll win games people think we should lose and lose games we should win. It happens to everybody,,,every year.
GO BLAZERS!!!
