Junk Matrix 10/31/09

I’m very paranoid ‘cause nobody has posted new junk.

Star-divide

I’m scared.

Is it possible that all of us junkers are really incased in slime pods. That instead of living life, we actually have some organic neuron fibers attached to our brains that make us think we are out in the world.

It could very well be possible that I’m right here in a slime pod, and right next to me is fanfaraway in another slime pod. Not thousands of miles away, but so close I could reach out and…I wanna kiss you, I wanna kiss you, playoffs – playoffs, I wanna kiss you.  Whoa, that was freaky.

Maybe us junkers are really the trolls of bedge. Maybe all the other bedgers snicker at us. Maybe their comments are invisible, and we just can’t see when they call us troll. I heard flags are invisible. Maybe they are the ones that put the fibers in our heads.

Maybe they gave us a cool mod like prez, a few good posters like norsk, mort, and a few others, just to pacify us. Maybe norsk, mort, and prez are just ones and zeros, and we’re all stuck in a slime pod. Hey, it’s possible, it could happen.

I see dead slime pod people.

you want to put yours up – I can delete this one?

What’s with the old JD, every time I click on it, it comes up but it doesn’t have a comment section.
After my last comment I closed the tab now I can’t get back in.

"And in the end

by 92wastheyear on Oct 31, 2009 8:43 AM PDT reply actions

Ok here goes

This my over reaction take from the Denver in classic rock rip off form

This should be sung to the tune of The Long Run by The Eagles

Roy uses the Iso a lot,
We tend to worry a lot,
we always freak out till the break of day.
Man, that doesn’t get it,
I think it’s high time we quit it.
We just shouldn’t carry on this way.
Oh, It’ll do some damage, AK know’s it’s true.
Didn’t know It was so scarey, but evidently it’s true.

But We can go the distance,
(and) We’ll find out, in the long run.
(in the long run)
All it takes is some persistance,
and our love (it’s a strong one)
(it’s a strong one)
Writers talkin’ about us,
they ain’t got nothin’ else to do
but when it all comes down we will
still come through.
In the long run.
Ooh, I want to tell you, it’s a long run.

You know I don’t understand, why you don’t
run the break better,
do the crazy things that you do.
‘Cause all the power forwards in Houston, baby,
couldn’t hold a candle to you.
Did you do it to Love?
Did you do it to Rony?
Did you take Kobe’s Sprite?
Did you think you think it was funny?

Who is gonna make it?
We’ll find out, in the long run.
(in the long run)
I know we can take it,
if our love, is a strong one.
(is a strong one)
Well, G.O.‘s scared, but he ain’t shakin’.
Kinda bent, but he ain’t breakin’.

In the long run,
Ooh, I want to tell you, it’s a long run.
In the long run, Ooh, ahh, ehh.
In the long run

Going to find out, f-f-f-f-find out.
Long Long Long Long, Long Long Long Long.
Ooh run run run baby, run run baby.
Long, long, long, long.
Ooh, ahh, ehh, ehh.

For some reason, that reminded me of this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0pa3MTfxnE

1. It’s nice to see the Seattle SuperSonics, even though it was on a losing effort.

2. How long until Antoine Walker is doing the shimmy as interpretive dance while homeless on the street begging for change? All kidding aside, I’m not sure if I should shed a tear for Walker due to his financial woes or mock him mercilessly for such idiocy. Meh, I’ll just split the difference and pity the fool.

3. Even when coach of the Seattle SuperSonics, Nate McMillan would have bigs rotate on switches off of picks instead of letting the guard fight through them. In this case, it was Vitaly Potapenko watching Steve Nash drill a three-pointer in his face when he was too slow and dumbfounded to close out on him. When will McMillan learn that this style of defending the pick-‘n’-roll — no matter whether the ball-handler keeps it himself or passes to the cutting big — leads to mismatches that favor the offense?

Dear Paul Allen:

Waive Patty Mills & sign Ime Udoka.

by AK1984 on Oct 31, 2009 9:34 AM PDT up reply actions

the pick and roll is basketball bread & butter

it’s always going to lead to mismatches or easy buckets especially when guys like Nash have the ball. Not trying to defend Potapenko here, but after the switch he’s burnt either way.
There was enough time on the clock for another Dallas possession. Had VP tried to close out on Nash to defend the 3, Nash would just have gone around him and scored an easy duece. Either way VP ends up as an example of how not to defend the pick and roll.

Pick and Roll defense is always going to be difficult to master. I think of Stockton-Malone. They ran that play a million times and why? Because there really was no way to defend it.
It’s not so much how the PTB defend the p&r, it’s how ineffectively they run it themselves. We got bigs chasing defenders around trying to execute the pick in order to free up space for the ball handler (Roy). There’s rarely ever a roll, except when Lamarcus pick and pops from 18 feet out. I dunno. I’ll pay closer attention tonight. But my theory is Blake is really not adept to deliver the assist after the pick, and Miller doesn’t have the outside shot that would keep VP honest.

ANSWERS:

How many unique, 5 player units have the Blazer played in two games? 40 most of any team in the NBA thus far.

How many total minutes has the starting unit played together? 16.67 Or, about 8 minutes per game! Which is the second lowest average of any team (Golden State’s average is lower).

Who are the five players in the unit that have played the second most minutes? Miller, Fernandez, Outlaw, Pryzbilla, Roy.

How many minutes has this five-player unit played? 5.62 In two games.

So basically, no units have played much together yet. Combine this with how the preseason went and the lack of execution on offense makes sense.

by PoliSam on Oct 31, 2009 1:16 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

Dang that is even crazier than I thought

THAT is the “why” of the offense.

And shows Nate isn’t putting those lineups out there because he thinks they are the best, he’s feeling things out just like everyone else. We’ll settle on a rotation eventually…

by Mortimer on Oct 31, 2009 1:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, I was shocked too

The number that is craziest to me…is the 5.62 for minutes of the second most used unit.

The low minutes for the starters was not totally shocking to me because of foul trouble for Aldridge and Oden, but I was surprised on the fragmentation of playing-time trickled down.

by PoliSam on Oct 31, 2009 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions

The guard units have been extremely erratic, rotation wise

It’s hard to see what solution there is besides time, since we don’t wanna go too hardcore in pre-season naturally, and won’t feel like we get a good idea of how things work in games that don’t matter.

We gotta do it on the fly, during the regular season. It may have cost us a win against Denver, but it’s a necessary evil for the long run.

by Mortimer on Oct 31, 2009 2:21 PM PDT up reply actions

It's so much trouble adding talented basketball players!

We shoulda’ just stayed good instead of keep trying to be great.

It’s too much trouble.

by Mortimer on Oct 31, 2009 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Also, as a reference

The median number of units played for teams is around 24. For example, Phoenix has played 18 different units, the Lakers 20, Atlanta 28, the Clipps 27, the Nuggs 24…

I think Milwaukee is angling to become the Griz of the East

a lot of their decisions recently have not made sense… for instance letting Sessions walk for nothing, now this… I don’t think they have a clear plan or direction, nor have they had one in a while

In 2 years

either the Girz or the Bucks will be in Seattle – Stern will have proved his point, Steve Balmer will still be rich, and both of those teams have shown their current ownership situations are untenable.

That's my hope, because with a solid ownership/organizational structure

and that team the I-5 rivalry could mean something again. Conley, Mayo, Gay, and Gasol are all nice pieces to build around. Hopefully, they don’t blow it up in preparation for a sale (or if they do, we get Conley) and that Thabeet pick was a waste, imo (I don’t see him turning into Deke like I’m sure Wallace is hoping), but their core is pretty good.

well, I'm not saying they are smart! haha

Although let’s think of it this way, how many players are looking for money next year? How many of them will find it going where they want to go? I remember working on my Ph.D. and people talking about jobs in academia. You can always find one, but occasionally you have to go to Wisconsin.

I think we have one more year before we can talk about ZREC.

How much cap space will Milwaukee have?

They, like Minny, OKC, and prolly us, shouldn’t rely on big name free agents going there even if all else dries up. Most existing big name free agents in 2010 I can think of would likely rather just stay where they are over less money in Milwaukee.

by Mortimer on Oct 31, 2009 1:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Not much, unless they can convince Michael Redd to use his ETO or move him or Gadzuric for expiring deals

But slowly things happen that they cannot help and the Blazers Fellowship of the Ring begins to break apart

by Norsktroll on Oct 31, 2009 1:36 PM PDT up reply actions

You might have a point that Redd for Dampier could be a deal that happens

Last night JVG also hinted that the Mavs would/should play a lineup of Kidd – ?/Terry – Howard – Marion – Dirk to close out games. I would prefer a player like Joe Johnson, but they’ll either acquire a SG or a better C.

But slowly things happen that they cannot help and the Blazers Fellowship of the Ring begins to break apart

by Norsktroll on Oct 31, 2009 1:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Right now

I see the Bucks wanna save cash, but not wanna lose a good young big like Bogut. Same for the Clips with Kaman.

So, for the Clips I see Camby being available for the super expiring deal, and the BPA option being Redd. I am not a big Redd fan, but obviously he can score and as a co-star he’d be a good player on offense. As the main dude, he is no good.

by Mortimer on Oct 31, 2009 2:02 PM PDT up reply actions

Joe Johnson would be a great get

I like him as a co-star a lot more than Redd. He can pass, shoot, dribble the ball…

That would be a very nice pick up.

by Mortimer on Oct 31, 2009 2:05 PM PDT up reply actions

And I ain't ever been a fan of his.

I think he was drafted for all the wrong reasons.

by Mortimer on Oct 31, 2009 1:20 PM PDT up reply actions

I think he was drafted too high, but I don't think he'll wash out of the NBA. And doubtful they can re-sign him for more.

On the other hand the Bucks have 15 million guys capable of playing small forward and/or power forward at the moment.

P.S.: I just picked up Jennings in our ESPN league. And Redick who’ll start while Carter is injured in our Y league. Muahahahaha.

Hinrich fanboys - hope springs eternal

From Mark Stein’s Weekend Dime. Speculation that the Bulls may still be a player in the 2010 derby, so the Captain could hit the market at some point (although I still think keeping Hinrich is a better bet for Chicago than hoping Wade jumps):

4. CHICAGO
$53.6 million salary cap: $12.9 million of cap space
$50 million salary cap: $9.3 million of cap space
What it means: Sources with knowledge of the Bulls’ thinking say Chicago wants to get a decent look at this group before deciding how to attack July 2010. There’s also the perennial possibility that Kirk Hinrich gets moved, which could wind up creating more cap space than the Bulls currently envision depending on what they would have to take back in a trade involving Hinrich. Yet this much we know for sure: Chicago naturally believes it’s set at the point with Derrick Rose and has one trusty big man for the future in Joakim Noah. Any eight-figure amount of cap room is going to help them keep adding quality to the core, although that is another best-case scenario that assumes restricted free agent Tyrus Thomas will have been traded elsewhere.

do you know that it's actually a virus that shuts the computer down?

it sounds like it might be overheating, though not loading the virus software is kinda odd.

No, I don't think it's a virus, but overheating is certainly

a possibility. In fact, that’s probably the case as the fan has sounded funky lately. Thanks DtL.

Always fun to pull out the classics.

His buddy movies especially with Terrence Hill (real name Mario Giotti, he is probably more well-known in the US from appearing in a number of Western movies) are just fun, although they surely don’t fulfill what movie critics want to see.

P.S.: Bud Spencer represented Italy in the 1952 Olympic games. In which discipline?

So I gotta get going

I got my laptop set up on the archives page of league pass broadband, and will watch the game later. I am helping on Halloween duty with my friends’ kids and then going to a Halloween thingy later.

I contacted NBA.com and asked them if it was possible to get the direct link to the archived game so I wouldn’t see the end score, and they said no, BUT you can now turn off scores on archived games. Which I did.

So I think the trick is, leave my broadband LP thingy open, put my puter to sleep, and stay on the archives page without seeing the scores of today on NBA.com. Just keep the broadband LP launched. And I also think I gotta try to watch it a few hours after it is over, or maybe even after midnight, to make sure it is archived and I don’t see the score listed on the main page.

OOooooooooOooooOOooooh it is scary!! I hate knowing the score of a game before I watch, even if we win.

If I DVR a game to watch later. I generally turn my phone off, avoid the internet, and don’t talk to anyone. I hate knowing the outcome of a game.

True story, when B-Roy hit that game winner against the knicks last season, I had to watch it slightly delayed. By the end of the fourth quarter I was only a few minutes behind. With about two minutes left, I got a text message. I read it and it said “I love you Broy, another zaching game winning shot!!” Or something like that. I knew it was bad, I just didn’t know how bad. And how inept anyone else would be at running that offense. Actually, I didn’t know how good Dixon was until he went down that game.

Is watching it with someone that knows the outcome. They can’t say a damn thing without me dissecting every word for any evidence as to the outcome of the game…

we were totally dominant the whole game

and then the offense got complacent, sat some of the starters (with only a 19-3 lead) and eventually UCLA hit on two big plays late late in the 4th quarter and made it 19-19. then we just put James and Quizz back in and we drove right down the field and scored on a James reverse

by The Arkitect on Oct 31, 2009 9:15 PM PDT reply actions

Talkin ball is discussing the Ducks

It’s easy for me, Ducks lose by 11 at #7 Boise State.
Ducks kill #6 Cal by 42 and knock them out of the top 25.
Then to make sure there was no mistake, they blow out #5 USC 47 to 20
NO WAY NO HOW should Boise State be ranked above them.

Romance me with that Roy rainbow shot which took flight from way beyond the arc and sailed so high that before it came back down to earth sealing the victory, it kissed the rafters and said "You're mine baby."

by Blazer1342 on Oct 31, 2009 9:35 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree with the head to head – lets look at that.

Head to head, if Boise is better than the Ducks, they should have beat the Ducks by a wider margin than the Ducks beat USC – that’s head to head.

If we go to your house and lose every game by 10,
and then we come to my house and we beat you by 30,
We have the better team.

Since BSU is not coming to Oregon this year, the USC games is a good equivalent.

Romance me with that Roy rainbow shot which took flight from way beyond the arc and sailed so high that before it came back down to earth sealing the victory, it kissed the rafters and said "You're mine baby."

by Blazer1342 on Oct 31, 2009 10:03 PM PDT up reply actions

It doesn't matter if Oregon has the better collection of players, for Boise State beat them ...

in a head-to-head matchup and has posted a better overall record. When it comes to ranking Boise State and Oregon, those two factors put the Broncos ahead of the Ducks. It’s as simple as that.

Denver is very physical, and I thought we matched them 2 nights ago. I don’t want to think ahead to next year, but I think we’re the ones that might be flexing the muscle by then.

So to those who watched

What should I look for? Even though I know we lost I still gotta watch it, even though it isn’t that much fun. We only got 82 of these puppies, plus the playoffs. Gotta savor ’em.

What did we learn tonight?

by Mortimer on Nov 1, 2009 12:08 AM PDT reply actions

Yeah brandon's good

What did I learn tonight? We don’t do well against teams that fast break a lot. Our defense is lacking in all aspects, but this may have less to do with skill and more to do with a lack of a coherent defensive plan. This team needs to find itself, develop its own identity, because I am starting to get frustrated watching them constantly try to adapt to the other teams offensive schemes, and then not make the other team have to adapt to them. Houston figured out the best way to beat us is to clog the middle and force us to take jumpshots. The worst is when Dre passes to a cutter who is trying to drive the lane, gets cut off and then passes back out to dre who inexplicably is trying an awful lot of outside shots disregarding the fact that he doesn’t have the range. Our chemistry is off, the point guards are trying to match each others strengths instead of playing to their own, and Nate seems to be experimenting the whole time. With that said, I still have faith that this team can get it together, I think it might take them getting sick of losing to teams they should beat, and I hope that no long term harm comes from that. But if we end up having a bad playoff seed because of early losses, then maybe that will give the team more incentive to get their ish together early.

I would give it all up for a billion dollars
