Call me Crazy! I like what I see....so far.
First time post.... So for what it's worth. As I watched the game last night Iwas struck by all the same emotions that I have seen expressed time and again in all the other posts. All of our shortcomings on display right in front of our eyes. But later I am most excited by the fact that we have this young inefficient team still trying to figure out how all of it's pieces fit and groove together. Last night TNT made a point of saying many times that Carmelo Anthony might have finally figured out to best help his team win (admittedly he is pretty awesome) and how long did it take? 5 years... more. And yet it was all this experienced solid team could do to fight us off, even with our inefficient offense, incoherent defense, and lousy coaching. I for one am excited about the fact the every other team in the NBA has got to be thinking that they better get their wins now, because when this overly excited puppy like team we have now begins to match its size, strength and speed with know how. Well that will be exciting to watch, at least for us.

I'm on your boat.
and there’s nothing wrong with going 81-1 for the season.
"We're going to play the right way. It ain't about you. It's about us. We can be successful if we play together. And that's what it's about. In this league, playing hard, playing together. Your numbers shouldn't matter. If we're not winning then you can say some things. But if we do it the right way, we should win, and you still shouldn't say anything." - Nate McMillan

Anthony was the most impressive he has ever been.
We need to figure out that match-up ASAP. We missed Nic for the first time. Roy was missing the extra weight last night. He got “out-strengthed” when he was matched on Carmelo.
We will get better and I am with you on some of your comments but the coaching is getting WAY too much negative attention. We are integrating two new starters and establishing chemistry. The good news is we are the best in the league at rebounding the ball and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

I agree that Melo had an MVP class performance last night
And I agree that we missed Nic. But Martell was very encouraging and he did a better job than Roy in guarding Melo. With Martlell and Nic last year, we play the L@kers in the 2nd round and give them more than Denver did.
My bet is we will see more of Martlell in crunch time next time over Rudy. Rudy and Roy on the floor together works fine against mediocre SFs but against Melo, LeBron, Marion, or Artest we must get some stops without the fouls. Roy is not built for that.
I agree that the learning curve is still in effect this year and the team should be much more stable after the 2nd half of the year.
"Either way we have two phenomenal units. I'm excited to play with either one." - Martell Webster

Call me crazy
but I thought Martell played incredible defense against Melo last night, he didn’t give an inch, and fought for everything. I am pretty excited if he can continue to do that game after game.

I see my sarcasm careened off right like Odens free throws!
I was trying to be sarcastic about the defense offense and coaching!

Sarcasm is the rule of law on this site.
I used to think my sarcasm was brilliant. BEdge has made me realize what a complete amateur I am in this realm. Jscot, the future ruler of the world, is my idol. I can only hope when he reigns supreme, he will allow me the honor of being one of his minions.

As lame as this sounds,
The Blazers should be given an A for effort (except LMA who was simply dreadful). In the end, they lost the same way they did in the playoffs – they didn’t take care of business at the end of the game. However, they played hard, they survived losing their Bigs early, they found a way to stay in the game despite poor shooting, they dominated the glass for 46 minutes, they played aggressive defense, and they did attack the rim (Rudy trying to slam over Birdman was awesome though ineffective).
It’s a loss, and it absolutely sucks. But the Blazers fought hard last night. It’s only a waste if they don’t learn from it, and the homer in me knows they will.

You have a point..
…..fans, and I think they should, always want to win. But I think you are correct. Expectations were so high coming into this season that I think a lot of people forgot that despite adding Miller and despite another season of experience, this is still a young team.
We aren’t defending Champions, we haven’t made it past the first round of the playoffs and as everyone knows last season marked our return to playoff contention. So you have a point, while I never really enjoy seeing The Blazers lose, it shouldn’t be unexpected that this team still has things to improve and work on. It would be more disturbing to me if I felt we were firing on all cylinders and STILL lost to Denver.
Truth is The Blazers are tuning up, struggling with some change and growth, and still we barely lost to Denver. I do think that’s a positive way to look at it. Much of what The Blazers did wrong, is fixable or at least something that can be worked at and improved. If we are talking about the loss to the Nuggets? With all due respect to Carmelo Anthony he was playing about as well as he can play. We faced a superstar performance from a experienced superstar and it took that from Denver for them to beat us.
How we respond to what was a tough loss will be important. I want to see if we have the killer instinct to bounce back and spoil a home opener for a team that is clearly less talented than us.
