Oden Seems Afraid
It’s bothering me a lot that so far in the regular season Oden appears to be afraid to shoot. It bothers me more after watching (or rather listening to) him blow up in the preseason.
Come on Greg! Don’t buckle under the pressure!

When they get him the ball, he’s never in good position. Instead of throwing up an awkward skyhook I would prefer he kick it out.

Quick is notorious for doing the same thing he complains about. Nitpicking and making mountains out of molehills. The irony in his complaining is thick. I’ve been pretty open that Quick is really one of the reporters I least respect, due to his embellishment and attempts to create stories that aren’t there.
It’s just not worth getting worked up about. Quick is Quick. This incident isn’t news.
I did laugh at the label of “Quick Sympathizer”, like we’re at war and sides must be taken now, considering my repeated comments about how poor a reporter I think Quick is.
I figure, just let it go and move on. There’s no need to create battle lines and attack each other. I’m already dreading the inevitable front page post and the attempt to further “old media” animosity with it.

this team is unwatchable
Defense was pretty decent most of the quarter. but our offense is just painful to watch. it’s just jump shot after jumpshot, no easy looks, no movement, no slashing. just painful. I’ve never seen a scheme that so wastes the availalble talent

Someone tell me what kind of offense Nate wants the Blazers to run since he does not like fast breaks? Whatever it is, it often takes 23 seconds and then a desparation shot at the 24 second buzzer and then Oden or Pryz gets the offensive rebound. Take is the offense I see.

there was ample reason to speculate he would be not as good as Rudy or Batum
its nice to see that he might be better than he was before. Its 2 games though. He got off to a very hot start 2 years ago.
Like I said, I certainly can't be sure this play will continue
But that’s primarily because he’s really not in game shape and may hit the wall early this year, not because he’ll revert. It’s not like he won’t have lulls still or anything. I’m hopeful they’ll continue to be shorter lulls until he’s a pretty stable court presence.
But either I’m a really good guesser, or there was something there that the numbers couldn’t see.
I don’t make any guarantees about Martell or anything. I simply thought everyone was distracted with the numbers and forgot to actually look at Martell, the person and the player. If he can stay in shape, I’m hopeful he’ll continue to improve as he gets his agility back.
I’d also like to see more than two games. It’s just a promising start. Like the unnamed thing we worry about with Oden, I’m watching Martell closely for any relapses.
If Martell continues his strong play, I look forward to writing the midseason fanpost about the reasons why I believe he’s improved. Not for bragging reasons (I got one right, whoopty-doo), but for informational reasons.
I'm the resident Martell cautioner and still don't like everything I'm seeing, but he obviously trusts his foot and throws himself in the game which is a great sign.
