Help Me Pick my League Pass Choice Teams
- Need 7 teams total, I can only watch games involving at least one of these teams
- Blazers get spot #1 obviously
- In order to maximize my coverage, picking all the top teams in the league is counterproductive, given that they are on national TV a lot
- looking for ENTERTAINING teams to watch, not necessarily the best teams record-wise
- OKC is probably a lock for a spot, with 2 of the big 3 in the East probably in as well. This gives me 3 more spots. Any suggestions?

I'm glad you asked that question.
1. Blazers – If you don’t pick them, you have no soul.
2. Thunder – Gotta like the up and down style and Durant is a beast.
3. Cavs – I know, they’re gonna be on TV a lot, but you can’t not see what LeBron is up to.
4. Nuggets – Portland’s biggest competition for the division crown and a decent team to watch.
5. Magic – One of those teams that could kinda go either way. Howard’s good and their antics aren’t so annoying as Boston’s.
6. Hawks – Just for entertainment value alone. Those guys are good, young and athletic.
7. Warriors – Who doesn’t like watching the freak show? They’ll score points, get scored on, all while trying not to kill each other. It’s Faaaaaaaaaan-Tastic!

rooting against the lakers

i guess im not sure how this setup works. the blazers aren’t a default?
by Ben. on Oct 27, 2009 11:40 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
You have to pick 7 teams overall.
That means the Blazers and then six other teams.
Just drop the Jazz off your list and you’re good.

nah i would love to watch the jazz the entire year. i’d rather watch them than the lakers. when healthy they are very entertaining

I think they'll be more entertaining when the inevitable Boozer trade happens.
Until then, there’s far too much vanilla in the Jazz offense for my taste. I don’t mind the pick and roll, but when that’s your only real play outside of dumping it down to Boozer, it becomes a bit tiresome.
Once Boozer goes, they can spread the floor and open space a bit. Should make for a more interesting squad.
Lakers would’ve been my second team off your list to dump.

i guess im not sure how this setup works. the blazers aren’t a default? an idiot for not reading directions.
so he’s out of market and i’m in market and therefore not doing a good job of helping here. guh.
ok that makes this considerably more difficult. i would subtract the lakers though and go with the rest

I'd throw in Memphis
it’s going to be a train wreck, and it’d be good to scout if we want to trade for Conley or Gay as they are circling the drain at the trade deadline.

I have to make this choice tonight also.
1) Blazers
2) Boston (east coast, want to see how Sheed finishes his career, plus the rest of the team has so much personality that I love to root against them)
3) Denver
4) Utah
5) Cleveland (LBJ)
6) Chicago (bunch of scrappy guys… I cheered for them during the Boston series last year)
7) San Antonio (probably the last great year of the best team of the decade)

No choice necessary tonight
I am leaning toward a very similar list. But so you (and everyone else in a similar position) know, you can add teams throughout the season until you total seven. So you don’t have to decide tonight. You can just pick the Blazers and the teams you are sure about, then add others as the season progresses.

Oh thanks… that’s a better system. I won’t have to waste a slot if anybody regresses

is this some sort of self-imposed thing, or is that how league pass works?

You can pay more to get all 30 teams
But less to get only 7 teams streamed online.

My 7
1. Blazers
2. NY Knicks— D’Antoni ball, even if the Knicks suck it’ll be fun to see their opponents putting up 130 points.
3. OKC
4. Lakers
5. GSW psychedelic small ball and Anthony Randolph’s emergence (?)
6. Orlando
7. Boston
(the crabs are on national tv enough, IMO, and I think Lebron isn’t terribly fun to watch. He’s so irritating with the dust and the self-satisfaction)

I forgot GS
and I find Lebron irritating as hell. Good call.

A few out of the box considerations
Most people’s suggestions are little too heavy on elite and Western conference teams to give you the full variety that you desire.
1. Milwaukee. Brandon Jennings is going to be fascinating. This is a high-risk pick though, he may well be benched and you’d stuck watching Bogut, Redd, and Hakeem Warrick.
2. Chicago… fun young team.
3. Toronto. They should play an interesting style of basketball. They will probably be in a lot of high scoring games.
4. Phoenix. Unless you’ve already had your fill of Steven Nash.
5. Indian Pacers. They were in a ton of close games last year and play a faced paced game.
I don’t find the Hawks fun to watch. Maybe it’s that their fans rarely show for regular season games, maybe I’m just a curmudgeon.

So, I went with
Portland
OKC
Boston
Orlando
Denver
Memphis
Golden State
5 west, 2 east, which is about right, ‘cause I generally like to watch teams in the west better. Also, getting 2 of the big 3 in the East mean I can watch ALL the Bos-Cle, Cle-Orl, and Orl-Bos games. Cleveland in and of themselves bore me to tears in general, so I didn’t want them. Plus, they will be on national TV plenty.
Denver for keeping tabs on the division rival
OKC for keeping tabs on a future division rival
Memphis for the trainwreck factor
Golden State for the entertainment value Nellie-ball.
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

Nice!
Not bad selections at all. I think I would’ve picked someone other than Denver though; I absolutely hate to watch them. I’d pick Utah to fill that “division rival” slot.

Magic, Lakers, Celtics and Cavs...
are on TV ALL THE TIME ALREADY!!
I’d pick division/conference rivals (teams that stand a chance of making the playoffs) that don’t get quite as much nat’l broadcasting and the Grizzlies for shock and awe value.
1- Blazers
2- Nuggets
3- Jazz
4- Spurs
5- Thunder
6- Mavericks, Suns or Clippers
7- Grizzlies
The Eastern Conference really doesn’t interest me much until it’s time to try to figure out chances for playoff seedings and predictions.

Probably more Suns (Channing) or Clippers (in 6 weeks when Mr. Injury Prone gets back)
and less Mavericks (I can’t stand watching Dirk NoWINski).

you have to have some good teams
1. blazers
2. lakers
3 cavs
4 magic
5 clippers
6 memphis
7 boston

Washington would be a sleeper pick for me. Arenas tore it up tonight against Dallas. If he’s healthy they’ll be one of the most fun teams in the league to watch.
I don’t have League Pass and don’t plan on getting it until at least next year, but since I live in Eugene I get all the Blazer games on local TV. Therefore it’s unnecessary for me to put them in my 7 and even if I wanted to they’d probably be blacked out. So I’d probably go:
1. Grizzlies – A.I. and ZBo on the same team. Most entertaining train wreck of the year.
2. Spurs – my pick to win the West this year
3. Wizards – see above
4. Warriors – they’re not necessarily good but you’d be hard pressed to find a more entertaining team in the NBA
5. “Thunder” – Durant is a stud and they have some good young guys who are fun to watch.
6. Magic – my pick to win the East
7. Denver – key division rival.
I only like watching LA, Cleveland and Boston when they play good teams, and when they play good teams it’s usually on national TV.

1. Blazers: The home team!
2. Spurs: Possibly the last chance at a dominant Tim Duncan team.
3. Warriors: How can you not like Nellieball? Plus some real fun players to watch.
4. Magic: The most likable of the three good East teams.
5. Utah: Division rival. Also: I hate watching Denver play.
6. Grizzlies: The Z-Bo/Iverson/Gay/Mayo lineup has been talked to death, and for good reason.
7. Suns or Knicks: I love watching D’Antoniball as well. I think I’d lean toward the Suns because of the Channing factor.
I didn’t pick HJC because I can’t support them at all. Even though I like a lot of their players, the management doesn’t deserve it.
Chicago, New Orleans, Toronto, and Indiana are all tempting as well because I enjoy watching them play. The Clippers are a close second in the “morbid curiosity” category, but Memphis beats them out.
