You have never heard of Haddadi?
He is the third best Grizz center.

oh yeah, that's right, the Iranian dude.
Who’s that guy 1 spot ahead of him though? Is he some new guy from Argentina or something?

Who cares who he is?
He’s only one spot better than the third best center on Memphis. Can’t be that good.
I can tell you how to make an Excel spreadsheet that proves Portland wins 62 games this year.

Seriously.
Memphis is going to be so good this year. KP was a fool to pass on Haddadi. A fool I say.
It looks like Blair might one day be as good as David Lee (If he stays healthy). I’m crying my eyes out. You know who else is really good at rebounding? Reggie Evans. He has one of the best rebounding rates every single season and the 76’ers just traded him away for almost nothing.
So that means KP has passed on Blair, Lee, and Evans. What a fool. Apparently he doesn’t love undersized rebounding machines as much as the rest of us do.

I don't want to start up the firestorm again
but if Blair leads the league in rebound rate, and scores efficiently on putbacks, both of which are well within his capabilities, he would have been an outstanding use of a 2nd round pick as well as a perfect fit in Portland. The league’s GMs are going to have some explaining to do to their respective fanbases. I don’t know if there’s ever been a 2nd round steal that was so obvious to even amateur talent evaluators like us before.
KP made a mistake, as did the rest of the league. RC Buford continues to GM circles around his colleagues.

All of what you said is true...
so long as he stays healthy, doesn’t get fat, and isn’t as lazy as people seem to think he is.
But yes, I agree, if he can do all those things, and he might, then he certainly would have been worth a second round pick. I was literally screaming at the TV when we passed him up, but I suspect there are things that they know, that we just don’t know.

It was obvious to most everybody on draft night
Maybe his bad knees will become a factor and bail KP out.
As a backup 4, though, he certainly looks good.

No, I agree.
It was SO obvious. Too obvious really for it to be an oversight or error. KP is a draft day guru. It’s what he does best, so I guarantee he knew Blair better than any of us.
I would bet money there’s underlying factors we don’t know about.

Ben already said there are other factors
and that his info was rock solid.
So no one can fairly pass judgment on the decision without knowing those factors. No matter what happens.

Blair has S.a.r.s and we don't wann infect the rest of the team.

If we passed on Kirk and Blair for non-basketball reasons, that could become a steep price
We’ll see, for now Blair is great value for the dollar that hardly gets provided by Howard, much less Jeff who already has health issues that Blair has yet to get.

Bad knees is somewhat of a basketball reason
Bad attitude is as well
Same with questionable work ethic/fatness
by tominhawaii on Oct 26, 2009 9:42 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
His work ethic in the last year was very good, and he continued to lose weight after getting drafted. He makes a friendly, open and intelligent impression in interviews. The only knock I have heard was from his Spanish teacher who said he didn’t try very hard. Big deal, the man doesn’t like/is no good at Spanish. I hope no company ever denies signing me because I got a D+ in music in 5th grade (that in later years went up to a B+ when I graduated).

I'm pretty sure the real reason is knees
Miles, Randolph, Roy, and Oden all had knee trouble. I think KP was trying to avoid Portland getting a bad reputation regarding knees.
by tominhawaii on Oct 26, 2009 10:13 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
That is an absolutely terrible reason not to take a chance on a top 5 talent in the 2nd round.
by jksnake99 on Oct 26, 2009 10:51 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's a waste of money to pay him once he's injured
How can you call a guy drafted in the 2nd round Top 5 talent? He’s not even top 30.

This is only true if Ben lied
Because he said we wouldn’t have taken him if his knees were perfect.

There's always an underlying reason why someone is a fatty
At least when it comes to NBA guys.
It’s never something good, even if not their fault.

Why would that make Ben a liar?
If he was told that by the Blazers, how does the messenger turn into the liar?

I'll take a knee problem over a hip problem any day of the week.
Sorry Pendergraph
I'm calling for 57 wins this season.

Yeah, we all know what happens to teams that pick up a reputation for having bad knees.
People’s knees start failing just because they know it’s expected. (However, you can avoid this by wearing knee coverings, so that the knees will be blinded and will never learn of the reputation.)

Offensive Boards
Make no mistake, Greg is a monster on the offensive glass.
Gonna lead the league in oreb rate and will in volume too if he can stay out there long enough.
I love extra possessions!

We know that he can play
what remains to be seen: can he stay on the court?

Of course he CAN
But MAY he stay on the court is more proper.
