Look out L*kers!

We’re coming for you! MWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!

Love how the snapper still calls...

The blazers “we”

“Do we really want him taking the ball out of Roy’s”

“Essentially we’re bringing back the same team from last year”

“The great thing about it is we have a ton of talent at the 3”

That’s why I always loved it when he was critical of the organization and the team. Especially doing color commentary. He called out the organization when necessary because he really gave a damn about the team.

Also interesting to see the concerns about coach Nate and pace discussed yet again.

I see a few might have made this mistake

Unless I am missing an ironic joke.

This wasn’t Steve “The Snapper” Jones. It’s just a fan who runs a website who is also named Steve Jones.

Not THE Steve Jones. A Steve Jones.

Have you seen your fantasy team yet?

You looking for a good time?

by L-TrainFTW! on Oct 26, 2009 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Finally did

Sorry I couldn’t make the draft, got way held up.

It’s not as bad as I expected. Granger, KG, not great but not like Prez’s autopicked team.

Some guys I hate though. Oh well.

Good article.

Thanks for posting.

"We believe" -Rudy Fernandez

by twiggs on Oct 26, 2009 6:21 AM PDT reply actions

I like how Snapper mentions Fernandez as a breakout guy

Some people seem to dismiss his room for growth, particularly when contrasted with Batum. Almost everyone needs time to adjust to the NBA, whether from the NCAA or overseas. He still has a lot of room for growth in skill and in role, as any relatively young player willing to work on his game, especially considering his solid athleticism and instincts. He averaged 10.4 points/2.7 reb/2 ast on 42.5% shooting last season. A quite conservative goal would have him reaching 15/4/3/46% off the bench in the next 2-3 years, and I keep it that low only because of his position and team depth (it will come easier when if Outlaw is moved).

by Epimenides on Oct 26, 2009 7:19 AM PDT reply actions

I'm not so sure that it is Outlaw that is going to be keeping him from getting the minutes

What is keeping him from getting extended minutes, is that he plays the same position as Roy. Outlaw will more than likely be getting a lot less minutes this season, and the minutes that he will get will mostly be backing up LMA and a few select minutes at the 3. Batum, Webster, Miller and Blake will probably be keeping him from playing as much as he would like…

This I agree with
As much as I like Miller — who is very, very good — if all you get from all that cap space is 2-3 years of Andre Miller and that’s it, then that will be a missed opportunity on a monumental scale. Sure, championships could make that irrelevant, but at this point that’s putting something that hasn’t happened up against something you could have done to make things happen.

and this
Some people may wonder about the toughness of this team, as do I at times.

Outside of Joel and possibly Greg (depending on Oden’s foul trouble) there isn’t a great deal of defensive rebounding or “scrappiness” in the paint. LMA needs to step his game up, and shed the “soft” label

and (sigh) Outlaw needs to be traded for a banger, before the deadline

There's the same amount of defensive rebounding as last year...

unless you think that Frye carried the team and Howard can’t replace him. Wasn’t that enough?

defensive rebounding wasn't really a team strength

not like offensive rebounding was, anyway

I was down on Channing as a backup 4. Too soft, too much like LMA. Howard has nice high-post passing skills, but he’s no banger, either. Maybe KP/Nate thought Pendergraph would be that guy, but he was a rookie 2nd round draft choice at best, and now he’s hurt and who knows how long it will be before he’s a contributer?

Wasn’t that enough?

In the 4th quarter of game 4 against the Rockets, Portland let a 10 point lead slip away and lost by 1; they were outrebounded 11-2 by Houston in that period.

The answer is no, it wasn’t enough. You can never have too many defensive stops and extra ball possessions in the post season. KP said he was planning to add “toughness and physicality” to the roster, over the summer.

If you can see it, tell me where it is. Because the only new faces I see are Miller, Howard, and Cunningham

We were 6th in defensive rebounding percentage last year

We were usually very good at rebounding on both ends of the court, with total dominance on the offensive end and extreme solidness on the defensive end.

Rebounding, overall, is a huge team strength.

remember the Alamo

the Rockets play in Houston, not San Antonio, but the concept is the same

those gaudy regular-season rebounding stats weren’t of much use in the first round in the playoffs. What has Nate been harping about during camp? Defensive rebounding. What did McMillian say the team still needed in July? A banger/beast

So…where’s the beef, KP?

At this point the roster will have to “get by” with scrappy.

Length (is not always) > strength

you know what i agree with you, except that in 2-3 years wont that cap space be there again?

the idea is that the blazers dont sign him long term, him being old an dall.

but i agree with the sentiment that the blazers may have made a move just to make it.
