Old news, since Casey had it up about 10 hours ago :) Still appreciated. This exchange was funny:

Gavin: "Crazy to think we had three teams in the Northwest just a couple years back. Now we are it! Like Vancouver NBA fans, and Seattle NBA fans are gonna watch their team the Portland Trail Blazers tonight take on the Suns. We’re the Northwest’s team."

Casey: "Well, probably not gonna watch it in Portland…other places are hopefully able to see it"

Gavin: "Oh yeah…"

I like how Gavin wants to trade Bayless now because he "might" complain about playing time later

I wonder if he buys new cars and trades them in after a year, because they might need repairs in the future.

Good analogy, Tom

For Gavin to come out and say that the problems with chemistry in preseason necessitates an immediate trade – that’s ridiculous. First of all – it’s preseason. It’s a time for Nate to play with possible lineups and keep flipping players in and out. Secondly, the idea that bringing in a new player or two will immediately improve chemistry is ludicrous. You want to know how to improve chemistry? Let the current guys continue to learn to play together. When you get months down the line, then evaluate. If chemistry is not there, then you make a trade.

Let me be clear – a trade now to improve talent or to consolidate talent would be fine. A trade now to ‘improve chemistry’ would be a ridiculous move.

Then for Gavin to specifically target Bayless as a ‘potential cancer in the locker room’ – I’m glad that Casey held his ground in the chat and didn’t just agree with Gavin.

A lesson learned from this preseason is that chemistry isn't about quality of players

it is about roles and suitability for filling them. Miller isn’t suited (yet) to play “off” of Roy. I think that is what Miller was talking about when he said he has been in the league long enough to have earned his respect (e.g., he gets the ball).

Why isn’t Miller suited to playing off Roy? His skill set is too similar – he needs to create offense with the ball in his hands. He can’t simply find the soft spot on the perimeter and burn the defense for collapsing on Roy.

Should Roy play an actual off guard role and let Miller be a point guard? Doesn’t look like that fosters good chemistry.

Aldridge and Oden will be fine together

You can already see in the limited time they have been together in pre season minutes that the high low game is going to be effective. LA will flash up to the free throw line extended on the side that Oden is posting on and he can either pass inside to Oden shoot a jumper or swing it over to the other wing. Travis will be able to work it effectively as well. If Miller is the wing or who receives the rotation, there are all kinds of lob pass possibilities in addition to LA or Oden reposting off of a back screen.
The trick will not be finding touches for everyone but finding the right mismatches as each game plays out. Nate has always been pretty darn good at doing this and with more weapons, it should get easier to find those mismatches.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
