Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Preseason Gameday Open Thread - Suns

Update: The Blazers just sent out a text...

The Trail Blazers sign LaMarcus Aldridge to a five-year extension today.

There will be a press conference tomorrow; I'll be there. Should be awesome.  Read more about the signing at Blazers.com.

---------------------

Round one against the Phoenix Suns this preseason didn't go the Blazers way.  Round two, this time in Vancouver BC rather than the Memorial Coliseum, looks to be a depleted affair.  Joe Freeman tweets...

Turns out Batum is in - and will start - tonite when the Blazers meet the Suns. He'll join a start linuep with Blake, B. Roy, LA and Oden.

Given that the Blazers just cut Ime Udoka and Jarron Collins, and Patty Mills and Jeff Pendergraph are not available due to long-term injury, Nate McMIllan might not (hopefully not) see his team this short-handed all season long.

Update: the Blazers texted to say GO and LMA are probable while Batum is questionable.

As for the Suns, Goran Dragic is a game time decision and Steve Nash will play in front of his hometown crowd, according to Paul Coro.  Hopefully the Blazers didn't have any problem getting plenty of ankle tape for Andre Miller and Steve Blake through customs.

Tip is at 7PM Pacific. Once again there is no television tonight. Radio: 95.5FM.

In the meantime, be sure to check in on the brilliant Phoenix Stan and company over at Bright Side of the Sun. I love that site.

I concur ...

… foremost importance being lack of injury, followed by the the scoring of more points by the team I support than by the rival team in the contest.

Were it that ...

… none be injured, all be strengthened in both body and wisdom in the art of basketball, that chemistry be established between the various guard positions in especial, and that in the end, as has been mentioned, that more points are scored by our team than theirs.

Dude ...

honestly, nobody dislikes Shaq more than me, but what’s he got left to prove?
He was the biggest, bulliest bruiser that basically rewrote how the officials called the game. Part of the reason Joel and Greg are getting so many touch calls in these pre-season games is that the refs don’t know the the Shaq-call rules in the NBA. Centers are allowed to push and shove each other a lot. didn’t used to be that way (that I recall) but now it is in this league.

Shaq will ruin their team

Just like he did here in PHX.

He first comes in saying he’ll be the “role player” Cleveland wants him to be…

then that will get old and he’ll start demanding touches, and it will go down from there.

Plus I watched him play a lot in High School here in Phx.

I’ve always rooted for the kid. Stand up.

he's pretty shnazzy

but he’s been very inconsistent with his shot so far in the preseason. When he’s been hot, he’s been HOOOTTTTT. When he’s cold he’s been pretty terrible. I think he’ll shoot over 47% this season as long as he maintains a steady amount of minutes.

Agree with that

He just a guy that needs to get his rhythmn. He will get the minutes necessary for that to happen. 12 point, 6 rebs and high 40’s in shooting sounds realistic

just got here

boxscore suggests teh Blazers starters played well. It also suggests that playing a full 2nd unit— with all 5 starters on the bench— isn’t working tonight. This is something I’ve felt about this year already— that the Blazers ought to have Roy, Oden or Aldridge on the court the vast majority of the time. Of course, having Rudy helps the bench, but still.

Anyway, I’m glad Roy apparently discovered his shot.

most of the rebounds he gets fall right in his hands

real rebounding is instinctual and he just doesn’t have it…..and never will

by j dubya on Oct 22, 2009 8:11 PM PDT up reply actions

He isn't a natural rebounder, no

LUCKILY we got Oden and Joel, who are as natural as a river stream floating peacefully by a tall powerful mountain at rebounding.
