Poll: Will You Pay to Stream Blazers Games Online?
To boil it down: the Blazers have become the first team in the NBA to stream their games on their official website.
Currently, the Blazers have made their KGW broadcast games available, either game-by-game or in a 15-game pack. There are fees associated with this content.
If you haven't already , be sure to read Dave's post on the subject for the necessary background information.

I was going to pay but only for 15 games? Not worth it. I thought it would be the whole season including Comcast games..

Get League Pass and you'll have them all

What Are My Other Choices?
I’ve got 1/4 season tickets, but I might be going to Australia for work for a year. Is there another choice for streaming the games? $40.00 for 15 games is way too frickin’ much.

NBA league pass broadband works if you're more than 150 miles away from Portland
and has, i think, all the games.

league pass bypass
My Aunt is a huge Blazers fan she loves in Beaverton and doesn’t have comcast. She changed the address her bank statements where sent to to be my other aunt in Sac Town. She has no blackouts except for the odd Kings Game

Nice
I took the opposite approach last season so I could watch games on KGW. I lived out of the Portland metro area, so I changed my DirecTV service address to an address in Portland. This also had the added benefit of receiving HD local channels, which were not offered in my area.

Not sure
I live in Olympia, WA and we get Comcast SportsNet, so I get to see all but those 15 games (maybe less? I haven’t done the research).
I can’t imagine paying 4 bucks a game to watch it on my computer. I would do it on a case by case basis. I would do it if it were a big game or an important game at the end of the year. Looking at the schedule, I may buy the Houston season opener and the last game of the year (GS).

If I read the release correctly...
This won’t be available outside kgw broadcast area. They want you to get league pass for that.

Almost certainly per NBA agreement
Because most people buy league pass to watch one or two teams and if you allow them to piece meal it like this it means less will buy.

well that sucks.
I wish league pass would let me buy them on a game by game basis. Even when they do their free trial, the stream sucks so bad it made it hard to watch. Maybe I’ll just use my sister’s CC who lives in PDX so i can get them :)…always a work around.

They are going about this all wrong.
For this to work, it has to include the comcast games, and be targeted towards those who either cannot afford to subscribe, or don’t live in areas that have comcast.
Showing the KGW games is in my opinion completely pointless. …and should be free…so we can get a taste of the quality before they make the comcast games available
by tmundal on Oct 21, 2009 12:44 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Its a trial run presumably
And I’m guessing the NBA requires them to charge.

Other as well.
I’m over 2000 miles out of the area, so the NBA League Pass doesn’t black out Blazer games. I think the NBALP is cheaper than what the Blazers are offering, so the cost is a little too high. Though I understand that this gives options to those people outside of the KGW viewing area but not outside the NBALP Blackout range. Hopefully the Blazers can do something similar for those in the same boat unable to get Comcast.

Other: NBA League Pass
I live outside of the market, so I’m not blacked out. It’s too bad they have the blackout rules. NBA League Pass is pretty fantastic.
by DC Blazer on Oct 21, 2009 12:48 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Oh, and $40 for 15 games is a lot
But it’s not that much more than $160 for all 82 games on League Pass (although, in theory, you’re paying for all of the other NBA games too).
by DC Blazer on Oct 21, 2009 12:49 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Just saw that NBALP Broadband has an option.
Something called NBA League Pass Broadband Choice. It said I can choose up to seven teams to watch (which isn’t everyone) for $100 for the season (10% off right now makes it $90). That means I can get 82 games (minus nationally televised games, and NBA TV games, which should be plenty) for only a little more than twice as much as the Blazers offering 15 games. Almost glad I live out of the area (except for that whole not being able to go to games thing).

I would buy some Comcast games
I’d pay 3.99 a game for some of the Comcast games. I go to the home games, and visit family for some Comcast games, so I’d love to be able to pick and choose.
by Section323 on Oct 21, 2009 12:53 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Really bad, hope it improves.
- Doesn’t include Comcast games. Most people who would be interested can already get KGW games.
- Black out area. I guess it’s okay if anyone blacked out can really get league pass broadband. Just make sure there are no areas that can’t get either.
- Price is too high. $4/game sucks. Make it $2 per game, or $100 for 82.

why pay? just use justin.tv someone will post it up
why pay when someone is going to stream it on justin.tv?? if the nba was smart, they would make it free and have ads on the side, like how HULU does it…nba is not very smart when it comes to technology. They could make a killing selling ad space rather than subscription base…so i will just wait till someoen posts on justin.tv cuz it will probably be the same quality….wake up nba, get with the technology, if tv shows can do it why can’t nba games do it as well? FREE…think about it
by HenryT on Oct 21, 2009 12:58 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I can remember a few times last year when there was no working justin link…and there were times when we could begin watching, but they were pulled/turned off mid-game. I would pay…just to make sure I could watch the game and get the quality that paying for a legit broadcast would bring.
jst my opinion
by jstbeachy on Oct 21, 2009 1:12 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
HUGE difference in quality
streaming a game from league pass is very good quality with little buffering and/or choppiness.
The pirated justin.tv and other links generally are much lower resolution, and often have a lot of buffering, choppiness, and pixelation.
How did you guys win that?

There are some ethics involved here
I could walk into 7-11 and steal a candy bar off the shelf for free as well.
As for “making a killing selling ad space,” no one is making anything close to a killing off internet ad space. If they were, Dave and Ben would be living large on a tropical island somewhere.

I'll add though
that I don’t think it is unethical to watch a pirate stream if the team/league has not provided a way for you to buy the product. If League Pass is blacked out and Comcast/KGW isn’t available in your area, it isn’t as if team revenue is being hurt by you watching a pirate stream.

Games have built in space for commercials
There’s no reason advertisers would pay less for someone to watch a commercial on their computer while watching a game than to watch a commercial on TV while watching the same game. That should be enough to support it.

When it happened last year I was on the phone with 3 levels of management
I provided the link to Blazersedge room with 1500 comments about how KGW sucks for not putting the game on. I don’t know if it was me, but 5 min after I got off the phone it was on.
They kept feeding me the “we put the storm coverage on because people really want to see it.” my response was something like “well your the only channel with the Blazers game and there are at least 6 others showing the same storm coverage you are.”

FYI if you have problems with blackouts, call the NBA folks
I bought MLB.Tv when I was in college in IA to watch Mariners games but since my credit card was of course based in OR I was initially blacked out. I called MLB and what do you know they cleared the blackout.
I’d suggest this to those in Seattle.

Webcast
Why would I pay to see those games when I can watch them for free with antenna? I thought this would be a free service, and would be able to watch these games if I was working late at the office.
I am one of the “lucky ones” in the comcast network but I hate paying for cable when all I watch are blazer games. I did it last year it cost me an extra 70$ a month to have HD cable over the blazers season that’s like 500$ just to see blazer games in HD (sometimes). I am not doing that this year.
I would gladly pay $100 to $150 to be able to stream all 82 games.
I don’t get why the blazers locked into a contract with comcast 3 years ago when the team was terrible for 10 years! talk about selling low! I don’t know the details of the contract so maybe how good the team performs is penciled in but doesn’t seem like it.
by Kola8273 on Oct 21, 2009 1:17 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
My guesses
1. The NBA probably requires them to charge for it.
2. Its likely a test before Comcast games.
3. The Comcast deal has been very good for the Blazers. They basically have their own network.

I keep hearing this... Is this seriously true?
I live in Downtown Seattle, and Comcast doesn’t serve my condo, I have to use Broadstripe, which, in turn, doesn’t has CSN (of course) nor do they offer LP. So my plan was to get LP Broadband… is there any way to get around this??? My family lives in Portland, I wonder if I could sign up for this streaming thing with the Blazers and give them their address… Hmm.
Oh well, looks like I will be driving around Renton every Blazer game, as somehow, miraculously, KBND 1110 in Bend can be heard from South Renton/Kent area. But I was hoping for a better option.
I was so excited for this, then heard I can’t get it… it’s crazy.

Out-of-market and bought NBA League Pass.
However, I would prefer to buy a package of only the Blazers’ games, regardless of delivery method, ideally in HD quality so it could be watched on an actual television.
And there’s nothing like paying $160+ for NBA LP and finding out that on some nights the Blazers game isn’t even being televised on League Pass (I suppose nights when all 30 teams are playing and none are on TNT/ESPN?). Thankfully that’s only happened a few times in the past two seasons. What happens much more frequently is that the east coast game showing before the Blazers game on the same channel goes into OT and the first part of the Blazers game isn’t broadcast at all. That happened far too frequently last season and was increasingly infuriating each time.
