what are NBA rules on trading recent signings?
Hi. Does anyone know what the NBA rules are on trading recent signings? And by that I mean free agents. Although I like Andre Miller, and I think he a quality point gaurd, I'm not convinced he meshes with Brandon Roy that well in the back court.
Obviously, I still wish we traded for Hinrich. If KP and the rest of the head office aren't convinced with Andre either, what's stopping them from making a realistic trade to the bulls.
Is there a rule that prevents this?
If there is no rule (although I'm pretty sure I read there is) why not make a move; Hinrich and Brad Miller for Miles' contract, Andre Miller and Steve Blake, plus our first round pick next year. (that's just an example by the way)
The contracts match.
The bulls get $14 million in expiring contracts, Andre, who has only one guanteed year after this, as well as a first round pick. That free cap space may come in handy if they want to pursue a top free agent next year such as Wade.
The Blazers get a guard who fits nate's style a bit better, plus he can shoot from deep, along with Brad Miller. I guess it would open up more playing time for bayless and rudy too.
Who knows.

Good god. People are still thinking about trading Darius Miles' contract... People still lust for Kirk Hinrich after Andre Miller is here??? Oy vey!!!
LISTEN. I WILL TYPE IN ALL CAPS SO NOBODY MISSES IT.
YES, THE BLAZERS HAVE TO PAY DARIUS MILES $9 MILLION FOR THIS SEASON, EVEN IF HE DOES NOTHING BUT RIDE A MOPED AT A SKATE PARK IN TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA FOR THE NEXT SIX MONTHS.
NO, THE BLAZERS CAN NOT MAKE THIS SALARY GO AWAY FROM ITS BOOKS BY CUTTING IT, TRADING IT, BUNDLING IT, BATCHING IT, FLIPPING IT, SWITCHING IT, COVERING IT WITH BATTER AND FEEDING IT TO A FARM ANIMAL, BLENDING IT MIXING IT, PAINTING IT RED AND SELLING IT AT A FLEA MARKET, HOISTING IT, FOISTING IT, OR COVERING IT WITH WHIPPED CREAM.
IT IS ON THE BOOKS.
IT COUNTS AGAINST THE CAP.
IT IS NOT TRADABLE.
PLEASE,
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD,
DO NOT FORGET THIS, ANYONE WHO READS THE BEDGE.
THANK YOU,
SINCERELY,
EVERYONE WHO READS THE BEDGE.

Your first problem is we don’t have miles contract to trade.
Second. Andre hasn’t played a minute of regular season and you want to trade him already???

Yeesh
couple things:
1. When we cut Miles, we lost all rights to his contract. It stays on our books, cap-wise, but we can’t move it. You can only trade players, not contracts, no matter if it’s portrayed that way.
2. Yes, there is a 3 month limit on trading signings from another team (like Miller). The earliest he can be moved is December 15 (I know it’s more than 3 months since he signed, but it’s how the rule is structured).
When in doubt, use espn’s trade machine to see if a deal works. Most obscure trade rules are there. If you can’t get it to work under it, it probably doesn’t work.

I'm pretty sure
the Mile’s money went away when Portland renounced Darius’ rights, because of his knee injury
Nice try, though. I’d like to see a guy like Brad as a 4th quality big man. But I think Andre will win you over, eventually

The Chicago Bulls won't move Brad Miller this season, as he'll be an important piece on a team that ...
should surprise fans and pundits alike.

and Portland can't afford to acquire Brad's 12.5 mil contract this year, regardless
I was just trying to give the original fanposter an “attaboy” for at least ID-ing a veteran PF/C who would be a good hypothetical addition to the roster

RC would get a nice chuckle
if KP called him up and suggested that deal

We are trading realized hip problems for potential knee problems. Sounds like a fair deal.

The funny thing about DeJuan Blair is he's earning aroud twice that of Jeff Pendergraph and Dante ...
Cunningham this season. While Blair will earn a fat $850,000, Pendergraph and Cunningham are stuck pulling in just the $457,588 rookie minimum. Yet, if anyone deserves the nice chunk of change in spite of being second-round pick, it’s definitely Blair.

well that's a justified expense for the Spurs
since DB’s as good as 31 and 33, put together
(and I like Cunningham’s potential, a lot)

Ooh, I'd rather have the chalupas than big macs
We may have something to work with here. :)

Newly signed free agents can't be traded until 3 months after they sign or December 15th, whichever is later
Per Question #80 of the Salary Cap FAQ
Generally, a player cannot be traded until three months after signing a contract or December 15th of that season, whichever is later. This does not apply to draft picks, who can be traded 30 days after signing their contract.:

How bout we have a rule?
NO Trade talk, I mean none, until we are at least 10 games into the season. Even then I think it is way too early.
