Observations from tonights game.
I was at the game tonight. Here is what I saw.
Greg Oden- Despite reports that Pryzybilla would start tonight, Oden was part of the starting lineup. He quickly picked up 2 fouls and stayed in foul trouble the whole night. (a couple of the fouls were bad calls) However, in the 4th quarter, he came alive and was instrumental in the comeback win. He had one very athletic layup that really impressed me. His Free-throw shooting was also very good and at times he looked like the best player on the floor.
Juwan Howard- Howard got quite a few minutes tonight, and he certainly earned them. He had a couple nice scoring moves, plus used his inside passing ability to create some easy baskets for the wings and big men. A nice solid game.
Nicolas Batum- Nic had a sick block on Ty Lawson during the 2nd quarter, but did very little on offense tonight. He was hardly noticeable out on the court tonight.
Brandon Roy- Roy got no respect from the refs tonight. He was in foul trouble all night, much like Oden, but he came through in the 4th quarter in a Royesque fashion.
Steve Blake- Blake was hardly noticeable tonight. He seemed to be out of rythym.
Joel Pryzybilla- Had a typical Joel Pryzybilla game. Solid.
Travis Outlaw- Travis was completely out of sync tonight, but was quite active defensively in the first quarter.
Martell Webster- made a couple shots, and also had a nice layup drive right into the teeth of the defense, something I'd like to see more of.
Jerryd Bayless= Jerryd was highly impressive. He played SG almost all the time he was in the game and he played it well. He was a foul magnet, getting Denver's bigs into major foul trouble. Best I've seen him play.
Andre Miller- He was huge tonight. He had some great scoring plays and also used his veteran savvy to get to the line. He also sees the court very well.
Replacement Refs- They blew a lot of calls tonight. I hope they aren't all this bad.
Hope you enjoy these observations.

The saving grace on the refs
May be that according to a guy I met on the MAX who was sitting down close to the court (I was up in 302) about 60% of the fouls, and almost all of the really bad calls, were made by one ref.
They still sucked but maybe if they get rid of this guy, that’’ll help.

I wonder if their game-films are being critiqued?
And if so, by who?

I'm sure the NBA is
Not that Stern would ever admit it. He could care less what normal fans think.

This is kind of a backhanded compliment, but it doesn't shock me that Jerryd Bayless performs better ...
on offense when he plays his natural position of shooting guard. Bayless surely isn’t a pure point guard like Andre Miller — or even a sharp-shooting off guard like Steve Blake — instead, he’s an undersized shooting guard with a gunner’s mentality. Yet, because Bayless is so overmatched defensively at the 2 ‘cause of his relatively small stature and poor fundamentals, he’ll never be able to effectively play that position in the NBA.

He loves his little drive to the hoop
He would go for it whenever he had a chance.

Jerryd Bayless, therefore, is a "gunner," because his go-to move is him putting his head down, ...
driving to the basket with reckless abandon, and thinking only about scoring points come hell or high water. That selfish, turnover-prone brand of basketball undoubtedly doesn’t come from the mindset of a team-oriented floor general, but rather a me-first shooting guard. Make no mistake about it, that type of hazardous, helter-sketler playmaking is ill-suited at the 1.

Yes, but...
I agree with you that Blayless’ style doesn’t work well as a 35+ min PG, but I think he can have a long-term role as the 3rd guard with this team given the make-up of the other players. That, however, will take this season and maybe part of next to determine.
I could see him starting and Rudy coming off the bench and getting more minutes than Jerryd in a 3 guard rotation, with the 4th guard changing year-to-year, a Blake Clone, 2nd round flyer, or Howard-like vet…

One thing I also noticed.
Bayless defended the PG while Miller defended the SG. It seemed to work really well.
