Pre-Season Gameday Open Thread - Nuggets

Tonight's Blazers vs. Nuggets game at the Rose Garden kind of snuck up on the tail end of a weekend of turnover-filled football, didn't it? Here's the Blazers.com preview.

Tip is 6PM. There is no TV. Radio on 95.5FM.

The Blazers' probable starting lineup (as tweeted by Joe Freeman): Blake, Roy, Batum, Howard, Przybilla.

I'll be on scene for the grudge match between last year's Northwest Division "Co-Champs" and have a full recap later tonight. Until then.

I don't care if Oden starts...

as long he gets at least 32 minutes a game this year.

You think he'll split 50/50 with Joel?

Or are you concerned about the unspeakable?

by Timmay! on Oct 18, 2009 4:17 PM PDT up reply actions

If it is going to be 24/24...

then you might as well start Joel. Then Greg can dominate the second team and Brandon can do thing against the first team.

by TallTimber on Oct 18, 2009 4:43 PM PDT up reply actions

More likely he averages 30 mpg over 75 games or so. Assuming he'll play 82 games is kind of unreasonable.

It is

the doomsday scenario for sure. Anyone else, even Brandon, goes down, and a quality replacement is available. Big question mark about Howard and Outlaw’s ability to fill the void on the court. As long as this is just precautionary/DeJuan Blair doesn’t grab 30 rebounds in his next outing, I can stomach tonight.

I hate Comcast.

Good point

Brandon will probably come out pretty aggressive tonight, it’s only pre-season, but it would still be nice to see him put together a big night.

Like I said yesterday

Andre really wants to stick it to the Nugs this year (because they traded him for AI) and it must be eating him up inside that Nate chose to start Blake, tonight. I look for Miller to have a big game tonight, and maybe he’ll wrest “his” starting job back before opening night

He’s not driving to the hoop because he doesn’t want to get banged up. Doesn’t that pretty much negate anything we thought we learned about RAMBO?

Sorry, I wasn't being super serious.

I personally haven’t seen a single game, so I can’t really say. I still believe Roy when he says he’s pulling up for jumpers instead of attacking the rim. I don’t know why he would make that up, and it does make a lot of sense as to why he looks (sounds) so terrible.

I think this may have been the one
Roy on his game:

I feel like the last two days I’ve been able to get a rhythm. My thing is, I’m just really looking forward to those first games of the (regular) season, especially when it counts. And my thing now is just to help this team get a rhythm as much as possible.

On what he’s been hiding and driving the lane:

Just bring what I bring. And coach has been trying to get me to get easier baskets. … It’ll come. Some of it was just — they tell me to be careful in the preseason, so I try to pull up. Even my teammates are like, ‘No, no, no, no. Don’t do it right now.’ But when the season comes, I’ll be attacking the hole. But right now, I’m trying to get through it and get to where it count. But I’ll get the drives. And a lot of it is, I’ve got to get our plays where — coach is working on screens; telling me to use screens, just so I can get easier baskets around the hoop.

http://www.columbian.com/article/20091017/BLOGS05/910179989/-1/BLAZERBANTER

I think Nate is right, if the other Blazers set screens for Roy and Miller can set him up with a pass, it will make it easier for Brandon to drive and score, because (unlike when he runs an ISO from the top of the circle) the opponent’s defense can’t be as focused on him

Skol Vikings! They sure aren’t finishing games well though.

I’ve been a MV fan almost as long as a Blazer’s fan. That would’ve been a brutal (choke!) loss, but fortunately the FG sailed wide left…it kind of reminded me of the kick that Gary Anderson missed, back in ’99

Gotta get the defensive secondary coached up. They sure missed Winfield’s tackling against Rice! Hopefully his turf toe won’t keep him out against the Pitts. That game should be a war. Favre is everything that was advertised, I wanted him in purple all along because I knew that it would put the Vike’s on national TV more often. Sure enough, CBS had them as the “early” game this week, and ESPN usually leads off all their NFL shows with with Favre highlights

Let's get real

We Blazer fans would LOVE the Birdman if we had him. Great hustle player, great redemption story. (To my knowledge, even in his drugging days Anderson didn’t hurt anyone but himself.) If weird Portland loved the Buffet Of Goodness, how would it resist the Feathered One?

But as long as he’s with the Thuggets, Chris Anderson will be the guy we love to hate. Nothing wrong with that!

BTW, my 25-year-old stepdaughter—tall, blonde, beautiful, & single—met Anderson at a party and said he’s “hot.” Pray for me…

he could be Buck Williams with more of a face up game. He can play up tempo or half court, and as far as character, well that article you linked to gives you an idea that he could inherit Channing’s “Mr. Portland” title. The only downside is I think other teams see him the same way, and he’ll be a top 10-15 pick. Anyone see the Roy quote about "Home Run Plays"?
“Right now we’ve got guys trying to make homerun plays because we’re struggling," said Roy of the increase in turnovers. "Once we relax and use our teammates and make easy passes we should be fine."

Anyone have any idea what he’s referring to? I suppose the obvious answer is Miller but everyone is talking about how well he’s playing, it’s hard to credit.

Outlaw? Hard to believe since they’re BFFs.

Oden? I just don’t see a left-hand hook qualifying as “homerun.”

But it sure sounds to me like he just called someone on the team “selfish.”

There's no sign they underestimated the demand

It’s very possible they knew exactly what the demand was and found it wasn’t cost-effective.

If they made the choice between preseason broadcasts and completing the HD transition, bravo to them on the right choice.
