Apparently, he's thinking about running for the Republican nomination.

good luck against Kitzhaber
local republicans won’t even back anyone against ol’ JK for fear of supporting a landslide loser.

I dunno about this
Perhaps the worst FT shooter in NBA history, not much of a star. I like the guy but not as a political leader.

Uhhh...not endorsing Duds or anything but,
what does “not much of a star” and FT% have to do with “I don’t like him much a s a political leader”?
There is this from the OLive blog piece:
In addition, Dudley, a Yale College graduate, was frequently praised for his charitable and community work. He won the NBA’s J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 1996 and USA Today’s “Most Caring Athlete” award in 1997. He was cited for such charitable contributions as giving $300,000 to the “I Have a Dream” Foundation that helps students pay for college.
I’d be more concerned about how he is going to make Oregon a more functional state in which to live vs. his free throw % back in the day…just saying….

I just wonder
If he’s just another Republican who they think will make a good candidate because he has a famous past but has absolutely ZERO experience running any organization or serving in government.
Full Disclosure: I am a Dem although I will probably vote for Bradbury instead of Kitz in the primary.

OK I'm down with that sky-w.
I wonder what else he does with his time? Does he have a business / history at running things, as you say, besides his charible stuff.
Full disclosure: totally small “i” independent here. Swing me baby :-).

From a pragmatic standpoint, the Republican Party in Oregon would be smart to support a center-right ...
moderate for the 2010 gubernatorial election like Congressman Greg Walden. Yet, I’m neither a Republican nor an Oregonian, so I don’t care either way. Y’know, if I lived in Oregon — as it is, I live in Washington — and had a chance to vote in the 2006 general election, I’d’ve voted for Richard Morley (L) over incumbent Gov. Ted Kulongoski (D) and his main challenger Ron Saxton {R} in the gubernatorial race.

I would be down for the capital "L"'s
becoming a more viable 3rd party alternative. As it stands though, a) it is hard to break the current 2 party apparatus, and, b) the L’s, it seems by nature and definition, seem to be lousy poiticians (what it takes to actually get elected)….need a paradigm shift…

Unfortunately, the Libertarian Party isn't a viable third party alternative for the two main reasons ...
you stated — as their candidates personalities do often make them “lousy politicians” and the United States must have a “paradigm shift” — yet, I’ll hope for future progress. From guys like Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) — who’s too much of a paleolibertarian for my tastes, as I’m more of a minarchist — to former Minn. Gov. Jesse Ventura, some strides have been made recently in making libertarianism a mainstream political ideology. America, without a doubt, is far and away a much better country for it.

If a third party isn't a viable option ...
… then the partical thing to do is pick the party that has the most in common with it and work to change it from within.
We do live in a participatory democracy. Voting is just the lowest step in participating.

HA HA HA HA HA Dudley you're too funny!
Go ahead and run for the GOP nomination, Dudley. Your campaign will be about as successful as your free throws.
Maybe you can ask Sarah Palin to move to Oregon and be your running mate. You and Sarah probably think governor candidates have running mates.
Cut taxes and ban abortion. And denounce gay people. And act like yo’re being persecuted by the liberal media. That’ll be a heckuva strategy for success.
Oh yeah, and support our OOPS! in Afghanistan and Iraq. You go girl.

Diatribe like the above is one thing
are why I’m a small “i”.
I can’t stand. Both “sides” are guilty of it. If anything, I’ll weigh whcih side spouts ad hominems the most, and vote / take the other side out of spite.
The above adds nothing to a meaningful discussion.
Ah I could go on, but I’ll refrain.
Have a good day though.

Yeah
If I were a Republican and wanted to be elected to office, I would probably pay people to go on non-political sites and post stuff like that.
I can tell you how to make an Excel spreadsheet that proves Portland wins 62 games this year.

If your point is
that Dudley would be more likely to win if he ran as a Democrat, I am with you.
If you are dumping on Dudley because he has an® after his name, you’re just generalizing about people with an® after their name.
I have to think that Mr. Dudley is not a Palin or Bush supporter. How could that be productive for him when running for office in Oregon? It cost Gordon Smith his job, in my opinion. – Elgin
