His arms are so blubbery
That takes dedication.
You know, if someone lets himself go like this… they gotta put language in these contracts that makes a contract null and void if one’s body fat percentage gets above 50%.
This is ridiculous that he is able to suck up a valuable roster space and 6 million bucks just because of Isiah’s dumb butt. I mean, if someone is able to trick someone into giving them a big deal, more power to them, but then to go and just get all fat and stupid… c’mon.
At least be ready to play.
I support guaranteed contracts, but I also think there should be something like a “no fatties” clause.

Apparently that $6.6M salary was invested wisely.

One day
I hope to be that well conditioned
I wish I spent more time playing catch with you and less time training my body and mind to kill you...

Holy god.
I think that’s the bouncer from the Safari Club on Powell…
I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I wonder if he passed Vinny Del Negro's conditioning test

He'd've passed Kevin Duckworth's conditioning test.
Too soon?
All kidding aside, we do know from experience that morbid obesity can truly be life-threatening for NBA players after their retirement. For Jerome “Big Snacks” James’ sake, here’s to hoping that he can take care of his body for health reasons.
Stupid people have stupid ideas.
Yeah, lots of guys get fat after their playing days are over
Hard to adjust from not doing all that working out but keeping the same diet.
Call me crazy, but James is gonna be a lard butt a few weeks after he isn’t expected to wear a revealing basketball jersey anymore. His man boobs are going to spill out the side for Peter’s sake.

He's not fat...
he’s just big boned.
That's a player, that's a team player. That's somebody that I want to go to battle with.

Disgusting
And hillarious.
Dude, it’s one thing to make fun of fat people. It is a VERY different thing to make fun of fat NBA players.

Now, in his defense, the camera adds 5 pounds...

BOOM!
I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
So funny that that is actually Jerome James because...
I used to cater at the Westin Hotel on Park and Alder. When he was playing for the Knicks they stayed there and we set up a buffet for them on gameday (I think they played Seattle the night before) This takes place around noon, as I mentioned, on gameday.
I remember this vividly because I’ve told the story so many times. JJ comes down, fills a plate of pancakes and syrup, and mounding plate of pasta, and makes a huge meat sandwich and fills the rest of the plate with chips and cookies. Then instead of taking a glass of iced tea, he grabs the whole pitcher. I notice this all happening as I’m in charge of watching and keeping the buffet stalked. JJ didn’t want to eat in the room with his teammates. He looked at me and motioned toward the elevator. I carried one of the plates and the pitcher of tea back to his room with him. I remember making some remark like, “You better not eat all of this or the Blazers will be running circles around you.” (It was my duty to say something.) JJ had had a one word response like, “Yeah.” I set the stuff down on the desk and he was sitting on the bed into the pancakes before I could even get outta there. Ever since then, I check up on his stats once in awhile, he Really eats the minutes.

I didn't realize minutes are so fattening.

He had one great playoff series. And made enough money for the rest of his life out of it. Amazingly efficient player.

remember when he wore th egarbage bag around his neck?
something about sticking it to all the teams that told him to clean out his locker?

He earned a PER oif 10.0 the year before Isiah snatched him up for $25M
JJ responded with a 6.3 and a 5.8 PER the next two years to vindicate the choice.
Remember he only has to beat out Eddy Curry to play! Fat chance!

NYC has some of the best restaurants in the world
ANY of us would get fat living there with million of dollars to eat out every night.
Jerome and Eddy Curry can’t be blamed! They are the victims here.

Serious question here
Do you think James hates his job? I think he does, eventhough he is getting paid bank for it.
I can relate to James because I don’t like to work out, never have, never will. I was able to supress this during my years in the corp, but everyday that I got up and ran, did dailies, etc… I hated it, and as soon as I left the Marines I let myself go pretty bad, going from 190 to about 340. Now I have changed my eating habits a bit since then and with only a small effort on my part have reduced the number the scales shows me, but I still hate to work out. Which is why I would never again take a job which required me to be in peak physical shape. I was offered a state patrol job, turned it down, fireman? no thanks. No job is worth it, if you hate doing it.
So I ask again, do you think James hates his job? I would if I were him.
Ben II Blazersedge.com || New to Blazers' Edge?
I’m sure he would like to be a more successful player than he is and doesn’t enjoy always sitting on the bench watching stars and never playing in the last years. But isn’t motivated enough to do everything for it, kinda like Eddy Curry who (aside from his known heart condition) would have the physical tools to be a mini-Shaq. With his injury last year, his motivation and self-discipline to stay in the best shape he can be seems to have gone completely out the window.
Controlling weight has much less to do with working out than with what, when and how much you eat. It’s physically impossible to work away everything if you eat too much (especially fat, salt, sugar, …). For less than 1 additional piece of cake, you would have to run or bike hard for 30 minutes. If an athlete even with a top metabolism eats half of what courtsideerrantboy describes above, it’s impossible to work that out without adding weight. Working out is important and doubly so for an athlete to e.g. keep your heart and blood vessels in check and your muscles active, but it has less to do with keeping your weight in check than people think. If Jones would pay a nutritionist and a cook, he would be in better shape even if he would just ride a (stationary) bike and run and play a bit in the off-season.

depending on many factors norsk. When I'm in a lifting phase I probably eat 5-6000 calories a day, and am still hungry.

What happened there?! My internet is acting up.
Was gonna say remember how Olympic swimmers eat 12-15000 calories a day. Different people have VERY different caloric requirements depending on metabolism, activity level, and other things.

He's on a roll in this thread :)
As author of Da BOM (Blazer Optimist Manifesto), I hereby certify that we will win 62 games in the regular season. Disagree at your peril.
Is it wrong that I feel kind of bad for him?
Some people just have weight issues, see Duckworth, Kevin…
I don't feel bad for anyone who makes that much money ( at least on a professional level ).
The simple fact is these guys have a better chance of just about anyone in the world to live a healthy lifestyle. Their employer is demanding / begging for them to stay in shape. The team will supply dieticans, personal trainers, life trainers, private workouts, world class facilities the plebs / proletariat would die for. They can drift, and go with the flow of a regular nba team schedule and still stay in pretty good shape. They really have no excuse for getting like that.
I lost 70lbs last year, and realized my weight became an issue because of choices I made, and made the correct choices to lose it and live a healthy lifestyle. Granted, very poor people ( the majority of our obese population is poor ) are going to be less likely to make the correct decisions regarding health, but these guys are not, and have an army of people pushing them to make good lifestyle choices.
I hope he can pull it together and salvage his career, but I don’t feel sorry for him or any obese people really. I work as a paramedic and have to lift these people when they fall, get into car wrecks and get very sick, and it is a huge hazard when we respond on them. I have hurt my back several times because people just can’t put the fork down.

It's a shame...
…especially for Duck, since he clearly had a problem even though he wanted to make us happy by being skinnier.
James just has given up and doesn’t even pretend he isn’t just getting paid 6 million a year to do nuthin’. That sort of behavior deserves our mockery.
Duck was sad, James is laughing all the way to the bank to me.
