Blame it on Larry?

WOW

This is just horrible for us,the whole miles situation hurt, bad.Im afraid that 5 years from now and we havent  won a title people are going to blame  it on this situation. And in this situation i mean Larry Miller. Were going to look back and say we had all momentum in being a good franchise and having such class act  players and and then our "united organization" made a bonehead and unclassy  move in sending the stupid letter.I think if anything it made the chances of another tramsigning Daruis higher,i mean seriosly do u really think that other teams are going to let Larry do this and just back down.If they didnt have bad intentions then they probably do know.I also dont understand how you can prove bad intentions,i mean seriosly the team can just say they want him for his leadership and just play him 5 min a game.We really have no case and this e mail should have never been sent and it might  just have cost us a chapionship.

No, It was a good move and a Roy-led team will dominate the league for years to come.

Reading this

made me dizzy. Larry Miller has “United” people? Like he owns them? I couldn’t pick any of your options because I agree with none of them.

Nothing that wasn't said in the email...

..but he decided to take a “You’re always negative, and I know you’re talking crap about me” approach with Canzano. He should have just stuck to the facts. I don’t think Larry has had a good day.

by TheTinfoil on Jan 9, 2009 4:59 PM PST up reply actions

O'Brien is probably right, though....

Canzano has been waiting for the current regime to screw up, or at least appear to have screwed up.

Expect some pining for the halcyon Steve Patterson days, or the forthrightness and clarity of Bob Whitsitt.

by EngineerScotty on Jan 9, 2009 5:01 PM PST up reply actions

I wish Gavin was in the afternoons. At least he is the homer to CIP's heel persona.

Canzano just isn’t very interesting. Constant negativity, muckracking for the sake of it, and his wanna be Howard Stern “jury pool.” I suppose I could just listen to Isaac and Suk…

Thanks

for the context. I can’t stand Canzano, so even if he was cross with him, no complaints here :) Seriously, the guy is a hack, I widh he would just get what he wants (a job in a bigger market) and leave, I can’t stand him

Intent is proven in court all the time.

I’m not a huge fan of this course of action, but Larry is hardly acting as an individual here. Nobody could send an email like this w/out Paul Allen and everybody else on board. Not too worried in the long run. Could be a galvanizing “us against the world” moment for our team … and we could use a little more of that attitude in our locker room to be sure.

This cannot be serious

right? No way does this email cost us a title. This is the first time that something like this has been leaked, but does anyone think that this is the first time something like this happened before? Not a chance. I really don’t understand how this would cost us a championship anyway. I am not too worried.

worst fan post ever...

forget the fact that I think the email was justified, there are about 50 other fan posts about this topic, and this poll brought nothin new to the conversation.

However I am trying to turn over a new leaf and not critize as much, so um….nice poll….but I didn’t vote.

How about an option for.....

No, regardless of whether or not it was a bad move the Darius Miles situation isn’t going to affect the team

by trailblazersfan on Jan 9, 2009 4:55 PM PST reply actions

I can see it now

David Stern is living in fear that a small market team like San Antonio (whoops), Cleveland, or PDX will win the title. The Spurs are just about done. LeBron will be out of Cleveland in a little over a year… but the Blazers have the looks of a dynasty going. Roy! Oden! Blah.

But now… the President of the Blazers have written a letter, so now it’s time for David Stern to strike, to keep the Larry O’Brien trophy out of a city that nobody outside that city cares about, and a state that nobody can pronounce properly.

Draft picks will be forfeited! Raef LaFrentz will be granted a ten-year extension on his deal vy the league! By the time Stern is done with us, Roy, Oden, and LMA will be itching to hightail it out of town, to play for the Knicks or the Heat or some other team in a large city in which sitcoms take place! (Like, seattle?)

Be prepared, folks, for the Wrath of Stern. The notion that a title was coming to Portland is longstanding folly; the NBA simply won’t allow it!

To quote the late Red Holzmann—"how the hell can I put ‘Portland’ on the marquee at Madison Square Garden?’

Book it. Oh, and unrec.

by EngineerScotty on Jan 9, 2009 4:59 PM PST reply actions

Am I the only one

who truly believes the league will end up changing things so we aren’t hurt by Miles at all? They have to see the future implications of allowing this to happen.

by TheTinfoil on Jan 9, 2009 5:07 PM PST reply actions

I think things will be changed

as the current rule is stupid.

Whether such a change will retroactively benefit the Blazers, I do not know.

Despite my over-the-top rant above… I do kinda suspect that David Stern would rather not have the Blazers participating in the 09 FA market in a big fashion. Not because of any animus to Portland, but simply to keep salaries down.

by Sabonis4Ever on Jan 9, 2009 5:35 PM PST reply actions

Not that big of a deal.

I really don’t think this whole letter things is as big as everyone is making. I don’t think anyone signs him. No team is going to want the negative media attention that that will bring. I think the letter was just a scare tactic that will probably work. If you were a GM would you want to deal with the speculation that you signed a player just to screw over another team. I think this whole thing was meant to bring media attention just incase some team was trying this they wont get away with it now because everyone is watching. Our front office is not THAT stupid.

by RipCityRoyCity on Jan 9, 2009 5:41 PM PST reply actions

How does this cost us a title?

Does this affect our on-court play? Will Stern suspend Roy and Aldridge for the rest of the season for this?
This has no bering on the on-court product, it’s just a distraction for the media and the fans.
Worst case scenario: Miles signs somewhere, plays 2 games, his salary goes back on the books for us, and the NBA upholds it. That would have happened even if we didn’t send a letter.
Seriously Blazerholic, back up your claim that it will cost us a title! What proof do you have?

ehh

lol you musta spent a lot of time to think that one out. how do you convince miles to sign the contract? it probably has nothing to do with money for him being as tho he is playing for the league minimum…he just wants to see if he can still hack it. its no different than MJ or Brett Farve wanting to keep going.

I am really thankful for this fanpost

I thought it was all over after the Clippers loss, or the Mavs loss, or the Hornets loss, or the L@kers loss.

Now, I realize the possibility that it is all over because of this email.
