1/09/09 Junk "I need a dog friendly room" Drawer
What up Blazers Edge?! I'm happily moving back to Portland in the next couple weeks (from Central Oregon) and I've decided to conduct a little experiment and try to determine the full communal value of the "BEdge."
My proposal is this: I am moving back to Portland and I need to find a cool house, with cool housemates that like the Blazers, are happy Barack Obama is going to President in 11 days (sorry rabid conservatives - no offense), like to have a good time and don't mind the fact that I have an awesome half-dingo dog (who is very well behaved and friendly unless you are a squirrel).
I am fun, awesome, people like me and I LOVE the Blazers (and have lots of cool Blazer stories from my time working as a courtside server behind the Blazer bench), think this could be a good match? Hit me up below.
As a side topic, was Wednesday night's game vs. Detroit the ugliest win you can remember? I can't remember an uglier win I was this happy about. Go Bayless.

It must be all that Hasselhoff music he listens to pre-game
David Hasselhoff is very popular in Germany. That’s why the Germans are good rebounders.
by BlazerD on Jan 9, 2009 2:06 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I heard Dirk still listens to him
I’m not kidding.
by BlazerD on Jan 9, 2009 2:10 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, he once admitted humming the melody to himself during FTs to get in the rhythm, which brought him a lot of jokes from teammates and the opposition. He also had very questionable haircuts and an earring back when he came in the league, but I guess he has changed over the years, too. I did projects in Germany, and saying Hasselhoff would be very popular there is like saying Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer and Knight Rider are still popular in the US. Didn’t see his records or his music played anywhere ;-)

I deployed there a couple of times while I was in the Navy and didn’t see any good rebounding, or hear any Hasselhoff music. I did change the radio station 3 straight times to find Tom Jones’ “Sex Bomb” on every station I flipped to though…

Trade Idea With The Suns
I know trades are scrutinized pretty closely here, so I thought I would float this one and see what you all thought.
The knitty-gritty: The Blazers get Shaq from the Suns for RLEC (cap space) and Joel (a good center).
This would signal that the Suns and recognizing they are on the playoff bubble and they need to make some plans for the future while not totally throwing in the towel on the current season. Joel isn’t a huge downgrade from the current version of Shaq and would allow Amare to get more offensive touches and maintain similar rebounding numbers from their 5. For the Blazers this gives us a bit more offense, and perhaps more importantly, a veteran center with some fire that can teach GO how to play while giving us a boost.
What do you guys think?
by pantelakis on Jan 9, 2009 6:42 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
I think it's a strange tade.
Can Shaq play the 1 or the 3? No? Then why would we want to shake up the 5 spot?
Catalina-Wine-Mixer.
by ArbyOSU on Jan 9, 2009 8:55 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Weird
I don’t think it’s going to happen.
1.) Shaq is likely to retire soon. Pryz will be around longer.
2.) Pryz is a downgrade and the Suns want to win now. Maybe next year they’ll toss in the towel, but not this year.
3.) Shaq is still a force in the post.
4.) Shaq would be irked not playing for a winner and thus pout. Not the sample you’d want from GO
5.) Pryz is one of the few tough blazers.

I walked in by accident once
By accident I mean i was looking for a drink and a bathroom and was underaged at the time. Back when I was all naive I blushed and walked back out.
I went back a year later when it was legal and sat down to see what it was all about. they made the poor girl PAY for the Jukebox. She was literally begging for money just so she could dance. Wow… just… wow…
Also, those novelty toys in the bathroom are dumb. Here I am looking at the picture and expecting a full size lady to appear before me and grant all my wishes, and instead I get a 5 cent piece of plastic. Very disappointing.
Those were the days I’ll be glad to not live again.

Tell them to go to NW 23rd if they like shopping
It’s trendy and kinda spendy (think Nob Hill) but there are some cool places to check out, and really good restaurants to eat at. If they want a more “liberal Portland” experience, tell them to go to SE Hawthorne Blvd (between 30th and 39th is the best spot). They can go to less expensive stores, eat good food, and see a bunch of hippies with dredlocks playing a guitar on the side of the road for money, get hassled by a million “save the children/whales/trees” petitioners and buy a bong and incense at one of the many “smoke shops” along the street. Either choice is actually a fun Portland experience.

Seconded
NW 23rd/Pearl District is usally a hit with visitors. They can take the streetcar from downtown and get off at any stop that looks interesting. One of the nice things about NW 23rd is that you can wander around the neighborhood and see some beautiful architecture and gardens.
They can even take the streeetcar to the South Waterfront area and then take the tram up to OHSU. If the weather’s clear, the view is amazing.

This is for 92
I quit a puzzle today
Because it was lame
I focus on the border
The only thing that’s finished
The cat trashes puzzles
The old familiar thing
Try to shoo it all away
But I remember everything
[Chorus:]
What have I become
A puzzle quitter
Everyone I know finishes puzzles
In the end
And you could have it all
My puzzle of snow
It will let you down
It will make you hurt
I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my quitter’s chair
Full of broken puzzles
I cannot rebuild
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here
[Chorus:]
What have I become
A puzzle quitter
Everyone I know finishes puzzles
In the end
And you could have it all
My puzzle of snow
It will let you down
It will make you hurt
If I could start again (I wouldn’t)
A million miles away (Is where I’d like to send it)
I would keep myself (From burning it)
I would find a way (Probably just mail it)

Lawyers form the political infrastructure of a democracy
Just look at Pakistan… when the government tried to assert more power, who did they attack? The lawyers.
If you ask people whether they like lawyers or dentists, they say “no, I hate those people… but I have a good lawyer/dentist”. Everyone hates them in general, but likes them individually. They are people that others trust to protect their freedom and wealth.
They serve a sometimes messy, but very very necessary role in society (and get maligned with jokes and hatred just for doing their job).

Same as the CEO's of WAMU and thier baristers soaking up tax payer money
And sending the money to thier kids and good buddys{see Maloof] to put in thier Swiss bank accounts

there are crappy lawyers
there are crappy basketball players (D. Miles)
there are crappy funeral home workers and crappy bus drivers.
Every bunch of apples has a few rotten ones. People assume all lawyers are like the bad ones. That’s just not the case.

I take your point
It shows poor judgement on my part that I have never spent money on their valuable services
by southern oregon on Jan 9, 2009 8:06 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
no it doesn't, come on
unless you got hosed in a divorce or car crash, then it’s fine that you’ve never spent money on them…
I’ve never spent money on another kind of valuable service, despite the fact I’ve been to Amsterdam twice… if you catch my drift.

We need another brave soul (willing to take a ban for the team) to trek over to Celtics Blog tonight to remind them of THE CURSE OF THE BANNED BEDGERS...
………………….. 10 were banned for no reason and it has been predicted that there’s gonna be a 10 game slide unless Celtics Blog pooping on their karma karpet gets cleaned up by a reversal of the arrogant assault on flippant fans….
SO IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN!!!

On a closely related topic: did you know it's illegal to ship live scorpions via Priority Mail, but you can send them Parcel Post?
"Now with a non-provocative footer!"
by timbo on Jan 9, 2009 8:07 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
You also can't send them to Canada.
"Now with a non-provocative footer!"
by timbo on Jan 9, 2009 8:11 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I did
And you also need to triple box the scorpions as well.
The reasoning for no Priority Mail shipment of scorpions is due to the fact that Priority Mail flies (unlike Parcel Post) and FedEx moves most of the air-bound mail for the Postal Service. FedEx has a thing against live animals in their packages.
