BLAZERS SHOUTOUT TO THE LEAGUE ABOUT MILES
Oh my Oh my the Blazers are playing it tough. Issuing a league-wide threat to any team that wishes to tamper with their cap............. this doesn't look too good

WOW i can't say WOW enough...
if I was Miles, I would sue…and if I was a GM, I would sign Miles just because someone threaten me to. And if I was team President, I would try to go work for the Blazers so I can have Paul Allen’s war chest and Men In Black behind me.

I've always figured this would happen
Its gotta violate some kind of anti-trust laws or something to sign a player just so another organization is forced fork over 300,000$
I dont see the Blazers being held accountable for his contract unless he plays meaningful time this year, or next.

This scares me a bit
Can Portland do this from a collusion perspective under the CBA? Granted, they’re not saying “all teams keep him because of XYZ” or “sign him and we sue” explicitly, but it’s pretty implicit in that statement. I can’t imagine the NBA PA will be too happy about this. I like it to an extent that the team is taking the initiative to protect it’s interests, and I would need to see what the actual penalties for the Blazers could be before making a definitive judgment on the decision to issue this release (although I’m guessing it was vetted pretty well before being issued) but wow…this is definitely raising the ante quite a bit.

Exactly what was need to be said
If any team decides to sign Miles because they want to limit our salary cap then that team should be penalized. It is an awful practice for a team to take such a low ground. Even if Miles plays 2 or 5 or even 82 games it wasn’t only the Blazers who thought his career was over, an INDEPENDENT doctor came to the same conclusion. In any court that holds some ground.
Throw Miles back on our payroll. It really doesn’t matter. We have four rookies in which three are already destined for close to starter minutes. Those are rookies. None of our rookies will be traded. Sorry that was OT

I'm going to comment here because the other 2 threads have 800+ comments
A) I think it would be hugely low class for any team to sign Miles (it would be the rest of the year at this point) just hurt another team. I’m not sure what the prorated veterans’ minimum would be, but the luxury tax dividend would probably cover most of it. I just don’t see how a team could honestly pursue Miles at this point in the season. He’s already been waived twice. If he was worth signing to a contract it seems like one of those two teams would have done it
B) This is a bold but risky move for the Blazers. On the one hand, I think this sends a clear message: 1. We want to use our cap space 2. Don’t mess with us, we might have an asset or 2 you may want. On the other hand, many owners/GMs are going to be put off by this and may be less willing to trade with us because of it.
C) What about from Miles’ point of view? He’s still got NBA level talent and is actively seeking a team to play for. There’s got to be something legally wrong with threatening a potential employer from hiring someone.

How would the Blazers.............
be able to sue another team based on what the Blazers thought the other team’s “intent” was in signing Miles? Will a court allow mind-reading as proof of intent?

The thing about Darius is...
He friggin sucks. He couldn’t stay on the roster in Memphis. No team has any business getting this guy other than to screw with portland. Everyone knows it. Like was posted in the other discussion, Portland is just trying to lay a foundation if they have to go to court about it.
