Miles 2 games from killing cap
Saposedly, the six games that Darius Miles played with Boston in the preseason now count towards the ten games that were needed to have miles ruin our capspace.
What does this mean for our plans over the summer, and our future trades we could have. We would still have a desent amout of capspace, but it will be signifigantly smaller. This could constrict some of our options, but we still have plenty, especially for KP to bring in whoever he sees fit. Other teams will be more than willing to play miles 2 games, especially if they will be a cap space contender. It seems though that we may not even need that one more impact player, if we can beat the likes of the pistons without Brandon,....maybe we dont even need B-Roy.....J-K. But im sure KP will still be able to work with whatever he is given, and get who he wants.

My thoughts exactly.
If nothing else, he can just play in 2 pre-season games next year. There’s no way he’s not going back on the books.
This rule is flawed though, since even a wheel-chair bound player could check in, sit on the floor for 1 possession of preseason games, and go back on the books.

Like Dave mention, not too big a deal...what we need to worry about is the team right now..

Well
Two games or eight, if a team signs him before the end of the season it was over anyway.

Oh well...
There’s nothing I can do, so might as well show some class and wish Miles the best of luck.

Wait,
So if he doesn’t play anymore this season, and we sign an overpriced RFA (as all RFA’s are) this summer, can they retroactively punish us for going over the cap? Other than dinging PA (which lets face it, is the least of our concerns) how could this hurt us?

This same thing keeps popping up
Everyone is way too worried about this. Terms like ‘kiling cap’ are thrown around and aren’t just supported by the facts.
Without Darius, we have 35.25 million in committed salaries and unsigned draft picks cap holds for 09-10 – about than $25 million under the cap. With Darius, it’s $16 million under the cap. Enough to sign a max player or a combination of other players.
yes, to get all of this we renounce/waive Ike, Channing, Steve, and Outlaw. who cares. if we are signing someone worth that kind of contract, we’ll do it in a heartbeat.
One more thing – we could terminate/renounce any of these guys and still sign them back later using a different exception – like the mid level , biannual or the veteran minimum. the MLE would be plenty to sign any of the 4 of these guys.
So imagine a scenario where Miles comes back on the books and we want to sign a guy for $15 million. we renounce steve/to/ike/channing, sing the free agent, then we can potentially still use our MLE to sign back either TO or Steve (assuming one is expendable due to our new max contract free agent).
How exactly is any of this “killing our cap space” It’s not – that’s just alarmist rhetoric

before someone else does it
ll correct myself. that’s what i get for going off of memory at 1am. once we renounce those 4 guys, we could NOT use the MLE or biannual exceptions to sign them back. we can use the veteran’s minimum (unlikely to be enough), or of course after signing our dream FA, we could use any remaining cap space to sign any of those guys to a new contract.

“All along, the Blazers knew exactly that the preseason games counted, but a league official said Wednesday night, "He wanted to keep it quiet."”
This is not a sentence. Therefore anything he said about bad stuff happening to the blazers can’t possibly be true, poor journalism.

Does not matter
The Blazers are not going to sign a $15 mil a year player. Or a combo of players. So $23 mil, $15 mil, or $8 mil. Does not matter.

Cap space is code for
salary vacuum I believe.
Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.
