Gameday Open Thread: Pistons vs. Blazers--Second Half
Well, our zone is leakier than a 10-cent umbrella and we're taking shots like we belong in a Wild West show but we're not out of it. What will happen in the second half? Continue the discussion here.

May I say … GO BLAZERS!!!
Let’s put it inside.
Gimme some LMA.
Gimme some Joel “Hands” Przybilla
Gimme some G. Oden!
Gimme some slashing cutters.
I normally don’t quote scripture, but just as it says in The Good Book: “Let there be points in the paint.”

Key thing: REX IS A PG. That makes Blake a shooting guard, which Nate has figured out. Rex is NOT A SHOOTING GUARD, HE IS TOO SMALL.

Rex is also
7 years younger. He is not a PG, or a SG or a combo guard… he is a 20 year old who does not have a spot yet.
by cic on Jan 7, 2009 8:54 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
He's not big enough to play the 2 in the NBA. Think Tony Parker and cross your fingers...
"Now with a non-provocative footer!"
by timbo on Jan 7, 2009 8:56 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
yeah... I don't konw
the way I see it is that if Vinny Johnson can be a shooting guard, then Bayless could also.
Bayless has plenty of time to find his NBA identity. Very few NBA teams run pure PG sets anymore. So many of todays players are versatile enough to handle the rock that unless your CP3, you just don’t need to dominate the ball like PG’s of the past did.
Either way, the kid is 20, and has yet to see any serious run yet. Garbage time and 2 minute stints here and there are just not a reliable opportunity to asses a young players ability.

He totally fits in with this team.. he belongs here…
I want to see what he becomes on the Blazers… not somewhere eise.
I’m not lookin’ for an arguement. Just expressing my opinion. And yes, part of it is personal, as in I like who he is off the court. As well as the rest of the team. We got chemistry. That’s big.

You da man for standing up for Travis like that.
I wish all the Travis doubters would just shut up. Yeah the dude has some stuff to work on. But what he needs more than anything is confidence. Once he has confidence he always finds his groove and then the dude is pure money.
Without Travis our team would be woeful.

Timing during the season and being without Brandon. Not sure it had much to do wtih the Pistons other than the fact that they were on a seven game winning streak.
The only thing I worry about is that we didn’t do so hot against the west without Brandon.

It was in late Jan or Feb.
It was the Jack fast-break behind-the-back turnover game (when all he needed to do was hold onto the ball and wait).
LMA hit a fadeaway in the lane as the buzzer sounded.
It was the one where we went into a dive afterward. That game was for first place.

Jack did that in OT and Martell was fouled on a 3 pt attmp in ot and missed 2 of 3
It was the only game I’ve ever sat court side, like literally w/ my feet on the court directly adjacent from the blazer bench, i remember that game well and AI hit the shot right in my face. I was devastated, literally.

I think him and Przy turned the tide in this game.
I loved seeing him get emotional out there. We need that.

ya seriously
way to put to rest all the talk on that poll about jay bay saying that he hasn’t proven he can be a great defender cause he shut him down.

How about the Defense in the second half
if we can play like that consistently we will be very good

first time he was a major factor in a victory
He did some good things in the Boston game, but had lots of mistakes. This was the first time he was a major net positive.

Playing time will get rid of 95% of the idiot rookie mistakes, like passing the ball to a cutting referee under the hoop...

PHEW!!!
Nice game. Can we please stop pretending LMA is an allstar? Travis is more clutch and more consistent when it counts than LMA is. I figured if Travis or Rudy took the final shot, we had a good chance to win. If they pounded it in to LMA, it was done.
Regardless, good win.
But being honest is all I do well.....
by SuperDave on Jan 7, 2009 9:42 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
i'm not saying LMA is an all-star, but there are plenty of all-stars that aren't clutch

Let's put in Hedo Turgulo instead of Dwight Howard then
KG was an all-star many times and yet he rarely hit game-winning shots. Of course, he ain’t the only one.
by Eventine on Jan 7, 2009 9:47 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
"when it counts" ??
LMA is just about consistent every night. His off nights are usually 11 and 7 or something. What good is Travis “in the clutch” (which he has not really been this season by the way) if its not a close game because he has been a non factor the entire game?
ps Did you forget about LMA against Boston already?

Note to KP
Do whatever it takes to get Prince without giving up big 3. Prince showed me what a stud he really is tonight.
by JasonT on Jan 7, 2009 9:44 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
Man, he carried his team through their rough stretches
A stud he is indeed. He could mentor Batum!
by Eventine on Jan 7, 2009 9:46 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Yep. But I doubt DET would give up Prince
He seems exactly like KP’s kind of player, but he’s untouchable.

they would give him up...they gave up on Billups

They didn't give up on Billups
They cleared him out for cap space by getting AI’s contract back.
Unless Prince is unhappy, he’s part of DET’s rebuild, since he’s still young enough.

i needed you to support my case today and yesterday about how i would trade
Batum in a heartbeat for Tayshaun but got wailed for it cuz of that magical L*ker game…

I'd consider it.
But I’m not as down on LMA as I’m aware you are.
It would be a tough call for me.
by Timmay! on Jan 7, 2009 9:49 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Prince is better...
but who do we have at power forward then? Having Batum at the 3 makes me say “no.”
by JasonT on Jan 7, 2009 9:49 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I don't want LMA to go anywhere
But that’s a reasonable trade, except LMA for Prince straight-up would hole up our PF position and would hole up Detroit’s SF position. Nobody wins.

I think Prince is more talented than LA right now
but Prince is in his prime and LA is a couple years away and it would clog our roster with way too many SFs, so I wouldn’t make that trade
by trailblazersfan on Jan 7, 2009 9:52 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
i think LMA is offensively more talented and bigger potential...
like you said Prince is in his prime and how long will he be like that for our title run?>? But LMA has a long ways to go to even get close to Prince’s D

i like bayless but i don’t think the 5 or 6 mins stint is really good for anyone trying to develop a game. i’d rather alternate DNPs with Sergio and Bayless to give them decent pt every other game.
