TRADE IDEA???
I was thinking of our team needs and i think almost everybody agrees it is a starting point guard, a starting small forward and a back up POWER forward. I think this might be a way for us to get all three. What do you think?

That is possibly the best trade I have seen posted on here, it is totaly fare for Charlotte and Portland, and Minnesota gets aslight snub, but they get some cap relief, I love it… Nice work

Took the words right out of my mouth.
This trade makes more sense than any other trade I have ever seen posted. Good work my friend. Again Minnesota would probably need to receive either some cash compensation or a draft pick because they do get a little snubbed. Otherwise, This is really a good trade for all teams. Lets substitute JBAYBAY with SURGE though.

Not too bad of a deal, depending on your personal view of Bayless.
Obviously though, G-Wall would be a nice pickup.
The other minor issue would be if KP had a plan to use RLEC in a better deal.
But yeh, we’ll see what happens….
Why does fat chance = slim chance?
I'm in awe.
Of the fact you all think this is such a great trade.
First off, it fails the initial hurdle of being a deal all participating teams get something of equal value. You have Portland giving up spare parts for a full time starter, a sometimes starter and regular rotation player. Why does Minnesota agree to exchange Smith for Diogu? As much as they could benefit from a true center, why pick up Muhammed to fill that role? He’s marginal at best and is signed for a few more years. You would have to assume Minnesota values Bayless so much that they’d do anything to get him. Guess what? No knock on Bayless, but the Wolves already have two average to undersized SG’s (Foye & McCants) that they’ve unsuccessfully tried to play at the point.
Charlotte doesn’t address any of their needs with this deal either, unless shedding salary is of prime importance.
As for it being a good deal for Portland, netting Wallace makes it so and Craig Smith might fit nicely, but anyone who thinks Felton offers much of an upgrade over Steve Blake must be high on something. Felton couldn’t keep his starting job from a midget rookie. Additionally, this trade creates roster issues at PG and SF. You almost have to assume trading Webster, who we just signed to an extension, as well as moving either Blake or Rodriguez. Finally, we probably sacrifice salary cap flexibility. That might not be too important if Wallace turns out to be the catylst this team needs to become a true playoff contender.

It would be great for Portland.
Wallace is a baller and Felton would be a nice backup pg. I just can’t see any of the other teams doing it.

Wallace
might be a great pick up if you substitute Sergio for Bayless. I also wouldn’t want Felton and would try and cut Minnesota out of the deal all together.
He's Coming! Oden Slayer of Giants
those guys are expensive for what you are getting
Wallace is getting 9 million for the next four years, and Nazr is getting 6 million for the next three. Nazr isn’t going to play for the Blazers if Oden and Przybilla are still on the team, and all the Batum fans are sure he’ll be ready to take over for Wallace long before four years are up. – Elgin

Wallace isn't expensive.
There are only four or five guys who can do what he does defensively and they all make about the same or more.

I'll agree your version is better than the original...
… but I also think Elgin is on the mark about its shortcomings.
I guess it comes down to how much you want Wallace.

Curious now
I’ve been blocked from seeing the trade idea because, well I’m at work.
Can someone fill me in?

yeah
We ship Channing, Raef to Charlotte and We ship Ike and Jerryd to Minnesota. We get Gerald Wallace, Raymond Felton from Charlotte and Craig Smith from Minnesota. Minnesota sends Mike Miller to Charlotte.
Minnesota leaves with:
Nazr Muhammed
Jerryd Bayless
Ike Diogu
Shannon Brown
Charlotte gets:
Mike Miller
Channing Frye
Raef
Portland gets:
Gerald Wallace
Raymond Felton
Craig Smith

Thanks a lot!

I love Wallace BUT
We’re adding a SF without jettisoning Outlaw or Martell? Does this mean we keep Outlaw permanently at PF? Mind you, this is not necessarily a bad thing.
Does Felton start?
Does Charlotte really go for this deal without a) getting better players in return or b) getting someone to take the Stache?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good start, and I’d love any deal to get two such quality players. Just wondering about the doability of it.

Positions
Starting
Felton, Roy, Wallace, LA, Oden
Second Unit
Blake, Rudy, Batum (until Martell gets back), Outlaw, Joel
Bench,
Sergio, (Batum), Shav, Smith
I think then outlaw would split his mintues with Smith and Batum at the three and four spots.
I'm not keen on the idea either
He’s got the potential to be the starting guard given the time he needs.
I also think its just wrong to keep Outlaw (6 years of patiently waiting) over Bayless (what, two games into his rookie season?).
"She turned me into a newt!
A newt?
...I got better."
I don't think Charlotte would be willing to get rid of Wallace very easily.
He has been a stud for them, and I’m sure that they envision future success will include him. It would take a lot of persuasion.
In K.P. I trust.
The one ace in the hole is that their owner, Bob Johnson, is a tightwad.
For a time it looked like Charlotte wasn’t going to meet minimum team-payroll requirements. Wallace’s deal is long-term, and in this economy it’s possible that Johnson might want to shed the contract. But that’s a remote possibility, and at the very least I think Charlotte would want a guy like Outlaw, who’s got a reasonable contract and can help fill the scoring void left by Wallace and Felton.
I would also bet that Charlotte might try to get Raja Bell included in deals instead of younger players.

Great Idea
I think too many trade ideas focused on getting a starting PF as our backup, but that is unrealistic in that it asks a starter to move to the bench. Craig Smith is just the type of backup we need, if not the caliber of a David Lee. At first, my only concern was if Minny was receiving fair value for Miller but then I considered the fact that they are in a rebuilding phase and Bayless holds more value over the long-term. Well made.
I like it but I don't see Charlotte going for it
They’d be dropping two starters who anchor the team and get one starter in return. Unless they are ready for Augustin to be the starter (which I wouldn’t rule out), they would be thinning their roster too much. Would they really be comfortable with The Stache as their starting SF?
"I'd rather be thin than famous."
I don't like it
I don’t think Felton fits what we need at the 1 at all, and Wallace’s injuries make me nervous (one concussion away from retirement).
Bayless has been testing the fences for weaknesses
I love how ...
in that trade all the players are listed with their current stats and PER … except for LaFrentz who is listed with his salary only. How apropos is that.
"These are dreams that we have." --Rudolfo Fernandez
LaFrentz is no longer a player. LaFrentz is a piece of paper with a lot of zeroes on it.

I rather expect Raef back in the league next season than many other players. He is 33 in May
Depends on his drive to come back from his shoulder surgery. Reportedly he was working very hard over the summer.
I'll believe it when I see it.
He was once a pretty good player, but injuries have robbed him of his quickness and mobility, not to mention, apparently, his shooting touch. He’d certainly get a training camp invite from somebody, but I’m not too sure about his ability to stick at this point. I’m not rooting against him, though.

How about including Sacramento instead of Minnesota?
Sacramento wants to move Miller and Thomas for cap relief. Charlotte needs a big to play with Okafor and can trade Wallace because Diaw can play SF. How about:
Portland receives:
Wallace
Thomas
Charlotte receives:
Miller
Rodriquez
Sacramento receives:
LaFrentz
Felton
Frye
I don’t know if Thomas has much game left, but his contract has only another year left and he used to be a rugged but undersized power forward who could make an open shot and as far as I know he’s a good citizen. Wallace is a major upgrade at SF and will significantly improve our perimeter defense, even if he is a little expensive.
Rodriquez does not have to be included, I don’t think, for it to work financially, but I thought Charlotte should get a little more talent for what they’re giving up. Miller really fits their needs IMO and they seem to want to move both Wallace and Felton in favor of Diaw and Augustin.
Frye might get to play a little for Sacramento with Miller gone and Felton will compete for starting spot. Most important, they can get far enough under the cap next year to be a player in the free agent market.
