Worst. Officiating. Ever.
How many phantom calls have there been? How many calls were only whistled 2-3 seconds after the fact when the Blazers had control?

meh, it's been questionable, but too bad.
a couple bogus calls is alright with me. That one game where they held Rudy’s jersey at the end of the game and gave the foul to rudy was the game I wasn’t happy about. This one hasn’t been horrible.

Blazers have fought hard!
Refs happen, but Blazers have been impressive!
"whoever scores the most points is probably gonna win the game"
If Blake hits half of the wide-open shots he's taken
We have a 10 point lead.

Dear Channing Frye
Please take some nice warm -up shots, get your guts going, get your head on straight, and MAN THE HELL UP!
I like you Channing. I think you’re a swell guy. But if I see you at the three point arc when you should be rebounding again, I’m gonna start calling for your trade ASAP.
Best wishes,

Great performance by the Blazers
but a couple things worry me:
Bigs – Joel and Greg each have 3 fouls going into the 2nd half. With Frye sucking big time, how do the Blazers respond.
Outside shooting – We’ve had so many open looks (Blake, Rudy), we need to start knocking them down. We’re doing a good job of drawing double-teams, now let’s take advantage.
Refs – Don’t let them get in your head. Keep playing good defense and forcing those turnovers.

Let them play through fouls
We’ll start hitting shots and the Lakers will start missing, but they probably won’t continue to turn the ball over that much
"It’s a good ol’ fashioned Rip City beat down!"
This depends on all of our role players
Batum, Channing Frye, Bayless, Fernandez, and Rodriguez.
Both Twin Towers have 3 fouls. No Roy either.
The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

I'm listening to the game on the radio at work
can I get a link to the game? and can someone give me a rundown on how the players are looking out there? thanks
yeh they're weird...not wearing white jerseys at home just feels odd.

Greg looking strong, bodying up on Bynum
Joel limited by fouls
LMA shooting well from 15 feet, but not going to the rack
Blake missing every shot in sight
Travis limited by fouls
Frye being soft
Rudy playing decent, making good passes and hitting some nice shots.
Bayless doing a Jarrett Jack impersonation (lots of jump passes). Luckily for him, they’re resulting in assists.
Sergio hasn’t played much, shot is way off.
BATUM! Great game so far! A highlight jam over Gasol; good work in transition, hitting the open 3.

Oden MIGHT be just okay, but there remains the chance that he will really learn to play…

Nope, Lamar Odom is a power forward who's definitely 6'10" tall in shoes.

I have never questioned Nates rotations
But he has been awful today, absoloutely awful. His team going completely away from what worked in the first half doesn’t help either.
While I wish Nate would have made a few of those adjustments
I really don’t think it would have affected their fate tonight.
yep
our main guns failed today no question about it, but Nate is so obsessed with his planned rotation that is unable to adapt. Batum played a lot of minutes today but he was sitted in crunch minutes. Also Sergio played some minutes, but in four stints… you have to recognize when a player is helping the team and not sit him just because that’s what you normally do.
I’m not blaming Nate on this loss, but he didn’t help also.
Free Sergio!
Are you kidding me?
If Rudy and Blake are missing that bad. What is he going to do? LMA can’t play every minute.

An unbiased scout with common sense could've called Jerryd Bayless bombing from a mile away.
Prior to the 2008 NBA Draft, I wanted the then Seattle SuperSonics to select Brook Lopez with the 4th pick. While Lopez has a long way to go before he’s more than an average player, I’d rather have him on my favorite team than Bayless.

haha
That’s a good one!
I don’t think Shaq could pay the Lakers to take him back after wearing out his welcome in L.A.
How come Shaq gets all the blame
when Kobe should get it more in my little opinion?
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
Because for the past five years before last year
Kobe got all the blame.
They need to balance it out, because the truth is Shaq as the more senior playerwas not mature enough to handle Kobe.
But Shaq is the one why Lakers won the ring so Kobe should of listened to him if he wanted another one.
look Shaq went to Miami and won the ring there. How come Shaq has to handle Kobe when Kobe was the one to get in deep crap?
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
I think Kobe really wanted to be a leader on your team, but he got in deep crap in his personal life
and wanted to involve Shaq in there so Shaq did not give that respect to Kobe thats why they could not do it, that is win another ring.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
Shaq has to handle Kobe
Because he’s supposed to be the veteran and more mature.
And Shaq is not why the Lakers won the ring. Shaq and Kobe won three together.
Shaq lucked into playing with Wade in Miami. It’s not that simple.
I think Kobe could not handle him self. Why Shaq should bail him out
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
Doe we have to go through this again?
Kobe is not a villain.
He is not a punk.
He is not a saint.
He’s just a guy who committed his life to basketball.
He’s sometimes full of himself, but not any more so than Shaq was into himself.
They guy wants to win, why do you need to project all the worst qualities onto him? Do you know him personally? I don’t. All I see is what’s on the court: hustle, desire, work ethic, and talent.
hey I didnt call him anything
I just use the info that came out of LA. I dont care about his personal life, i just think it was a problem for him to be a leader cuz Shaq did not respect him cuz of that, so you guys traded him, cuz he was getting old.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
Yeah
But I felt you were implying it.
A lot of the Shaq decision was money issues, as well as Shaq screaming at the owner to “pay me my money” during a pre-season game.
Yes, Kobe had a part, too, I’m sure the Lakers feared Kobe would leave, and they made their choice, which looks like the right one where I’m sitting today.
Part of it is just losing. They had just lost the Finals, so every is a little antsy and impatient.
Anyway, the blame game is lame. It is what it is, Shaq messed up, Kobe messed up, Phil Jackson messed up. But now, the Lakers made it to the Finals, and are looking to win it all just five(?) years later, so all’s well that ends well.
Lol. thats funny you said that what happened to him is a quality.
I thought it is just a one time indecent. But if it makes you feel not good I will drop it.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
I realize you didn't call him anything
But the tone of your responses (including "Kobe how my a$$ taste reference) leads me to believe that you think the worst of him.

I said “Kobe how my ass taste” cuz you said here on our floor “Blazers sucks”.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
I did?
I’ve never been to Portland.
I like the Blazers’ team, especially Brandon Roy and Rudy Fernandez.
I try to be an NBA fan, not just a Lakers fan.
Anyway, Kobe’s a grown man, he doesn’t need me to defend him, which I’ve been doing, so … I’ll stop now.
You were rubbing it in here
And so I rubbed so back on you, its just what fans do. After all what you were saying did not really hurt me, so i thought you will be fine too, if we exchange rub ins.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
Rubbing it in?
You must have me mistaken for someone else.

I will stop, I know it hurts you when I talk about Kobe but I did not say one bad word about him just asking whats was the problem with him and Shaq, cuz in my opinion Kobe should of listened to Shaq not the other way around, and maybe he would not get in deep problem.
I hope its not his quality like you said but only one time thing that happened.

i believe the blazers have the best guards from top to bottom in the NBA.. with Roy, Fernandez, Blake, Rodriguez, Bayless
Only thing blazers really need is a Pass First PG….. kinda like a Duhon type player
Blake and Sergio pass a lot more with Roy in the game
they played differently because of his absence.
Sergio is the quintessential pass-first point guard… now if he can just shoot.
No Blazers need some perimeter defense.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
Sergio is pass first
but he can be very inconsistent with his shot, plus Coach Nate isn’t much of a fan.
Bayless has been testing the fences for weaknesses
That was the worst second half since...
Well, the last game
Laker Fans are Hilarious
chanting “BOSTON SUCKS” while leaving the Staples Center
I thought Boston sucks too
And KG is the worst on their team
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
KG likes picking on Euro guards
what an ASS
i cant believe i wanted that guy on the lakers
I disagree.
I didn’t expect 20 wins by this point, and I sure didn’t expect 20 without Martell.
It would be great to win, but any game sans-Roy will be difficult.
we are ahead of schedule by a little bit...
but we’ve lost 4 of our last 9 home games… and if we keep playing .500 ball at home we have no chance.
Boomshakalaka
That's true.
They weren’t all horrible losses though… It’s frustrating to lose them, but Houston lost to a Washington team missing Caron Butler at home last week. It happens.
Cleveland lost to them today
We handily beat Washington. Are we better then? No. We lost to the Clipshow
absolutely it happens
but now is the point where the schedule gets easier… the point where we were all saying we needed to make a run before the season. Its critical to take advantage of the easy schedule the next month or so.
Boomshakalaka
these are a bit of special circumstances
The next 10 are different teams, and hopefully Brandon will be back for at least 7 of them.
two games in a row that Blake has killed us
He and Rudy were a combined 10-29 tonight. Blake 7-22 in the last two games.
It’s not only his shooting, but he does not get the ball to the hot player with any consistency.
Right now is a time where we can't afford to take it slow with Roy
Playoff experience is crucial for this team, and if we don’t get him back soon, we might not make it. If he’s anywhere close to ready, he needs to be on the floor.
Boomshakalaka
Rudy has picked a horrible time to slump
He had a ton of chances tonight. If he was given those shots in the first two weeks, he would have put up 25 pts.
Yeah, that's their game
They should excel at hitting the open shots.
Blazers don’t need to much change in their offense, Blake and Rudy just have to knock down those open shots.
yep
Rudy and Blakey were 10 for 29 today… and they were even worse than that stat shows.
Boomshakalaka
strange not hating on the Lakers after the game
that’s how bad we played
"Thanks for coming to the game." - Kevin Pritchard
Weird is putting it nicely
the lakers announcers were admitting at least 3 of them were not fouls, which means they were REALLY bad calls. Honestly, it wasn’t them this time.
We missed a ton of chances to expand the lead with open shots and free throws.
The Lakers announcers are pretty objective
Relative to the rest of the league’s announcers that I’ve caught on NBA TV.
They’re still homers, but they don’t always think that the opponent is at fault.
they can afford to be! :)
their team never loses, and when they do, people go home to hot blondes and hot beaches. Not a bad existence
Yeah strange the Arizas kicked Blake on the alley oop
And Blake got called for the foul.
Not quite sure if that’s because Ariza is in the air, or if it’s just a blown call.
Same goes for Ariza stepping on Rudy’s foot and slipping.
But Thanks
For beating Boston.
I’m a Lakers fan, got no place on SB Nation to discuss.
Uh, I mean, L*kers fan.
good game dude
"Thanks for coming to the game." - Kevin Pritchard
I didn't play
But thanks.
The Blazers are always a scary team, esp in the Rose Garden.
The Blazers looked so good in the 1st Q. Oden is like a oak tree, but too bad his hook shot is atrocious.
No more video auto-play at start
That’s the big one for me.

Ooh, really?
That is the most annoying thing. Trying to check a score and all of the sudden some video is blasting out of my speakers.
this is awful
I need to go back to the previous site
by trailblazersfan on Jan 4, 2009 9:13 PM PST up reply actions
The old site is gooooooone.
Honestly I prefer the new site so I can’t comment otherwise. It’s a bit cleaner and less annoying.
Its starting to grow on me a bit
but I dont like how they have laid out the headlines and the page takes up a lot more space on the screen which I dont like on the other hand the auto play going away is a huge bonus
by trailblazersfan on Jan 4, 2009 9:18 PM PST up reply actions
Yeah the autoplay thing is huge
I don’t think ESPN understood how despised they’d become over that.
I prefer web sites to use all the screen space available, so I’m really happy about that. Just personal preference.
Don't check out the CFB site
Or turn down your speakers first…
This game could have been much worse...
and if it had been I would not have finished this game.
Good enough performance from LMA to change the sig.

not soft?
lol, how many FTs did he shoot? He still took too many jumpers. I did like his rebounding for one and he was effective (as usual) when he got his butt in the post.
Boomshakalaka
Lets face it jksnake99 he wouldn't make you happy if he went off for 35 and had 20 rebs and made 15 FTs!!!!!!!

sorry
LaMarvelous, the fact is that if you don’t shoot 3s or get to the line, you have to shoot a very high percentage in order to be efficient. If LMA keeps shooting jumpers, that is just not going to happen.
Boomshakalaka
He did not try even 1 single 3 tonight

I think you misunderstood me
There are 3 ways to be an efficient shooter: shoot a high percentage on 2s, be an effective 3 point shooter, and get to the foul line.
LMA does none of those things.
Boomshakalaka
Man of the match for the Blazers
He could get to the free throw line a bit more, but that’s pretty much all there was to critique on his game tonight. If only we could combine and stabilize the good games of the various players…
Two came to play and delivered
Aldridge and Batum. A couple gave the effort but had barely any game (Blake and Rudy) and there were more than normal horrendous performances tonight.
That was Travis’ worst game ever I think. I like Travis, but something is wrong…..
Bayless was also awful. He had a couple of nice passes, but those were jump passes where he had nowhere to go and luckily found someone. He has a long, long way to go.
Love Pryzbilla, but he was ineffective as well. Although he was the only one who could shoot a free throw.
I told my son at halftime that we would lose by 20 as we had so many opportunities to have a double digit lead going into halftime and we were actually down. Lakers tried like heck to give us a fighting chance but we couldn’t take advantage.
If Rudy, Blake and Travis don’t figure out their shots, I think Detroit will get there revenge.
But to end it on a good note, I really really liked Aldridge’s performance and Batum’s as well.
"I saw him in the face" Sergio's quote on the latest alley-oop to Rudy.
Joel's foul trouble hurt him (Weird to say Joel there, not Oden)
A bunch of the players came to play. Blake, Rudy, Bayless, etc. They scrapped hard and played their best. But their shots just weren’t falling.
Blake then fell apart in the third. He’ll be picking himself apart over it until the Detroit game.
I agree that Blake, Rudy and Bayless
Came to play, my point was that only two came to play and delivered.
I agree Joel was taken out of the game by foul problems so he was a total non factor.
If Blake has a better shooting first half (2-8) we have a lead and some confidence. Same with Rudy.

Good things about this one:
We won two quarters (though the fourth, not such a big deal.)
Batum’s game was unreal. He didn’t miss a shot, he got the minutes, he made them count.
LMA had a great game.
Oden stayed out of foul trouble and made a solid contribution.
That alone would beat most teams.
That, plus a good night from Brandon, and we beat the Lakers.
But alas.
That's just how outside shooting goes
Next time Rudy and Blake may make ALL of their open shots, and I wouldn’t be surprised.
guys
as good as LMA looked tonight, 22 points on 19 shots just isn’t all that good. Even when his shot looks good, his efficiency is marginal because he doesn’t shoot 3s or get to the line. Please don’t ignore this.
Boomshakalaka
True
Many of his points were score in isolation, and on fadeaways, as opposed to cutting, banging, and offensive rebounding.
Yes but
He took 19 shots because he needed to. No one else besides Batum could hit the broad side of the barn. He was forcing some shots he normally may not take or need to take. I have zero problem with his game tonight. None.

ok you have a good point there
However, I think its clear that if LMA is the go to guy, we are in a world of hurt.
Boomshakalaka
No doubt
Remember Utah last year when he scored 36 and we still lost. Oden needs to be the second guy because he is already a better passer down low than LMA.

by blazermaniac32 on Jan 4, 2009 9:25 PM PST up reply actions
I don't disagree with that.
But I don’t think he’s meant to be the go-to guy except when others are hurt, or when he’s hot..
that's how we beat the Celtics.
and tonight LMA’s game didn’t stop with his scoring. I’m not looking at a stat sheet, but I’m sure he had 10+ rebounds and maybe 2 or 3 blocks?

Hmmm
Although neither measures up to these greats, Bynum is like Kareem to Oden’s Shaq. On a much smaller scale.
I'd go with this analogy.
Greg Oden : Patrick Ewing :: Andrew Bynum : Artis Gilmore
I’ve already explained why Oden is comparable to Ewing, so I won’t rehash it.
Bynum is very similar to Gilmore, though, particularly with regards to shooting efficiency.
Bynum is way stronger and much worse offensively than Artis Gilmore.
Bynum is like…………. Ummmm, maybe Hakeem minus offense.
"Now with a non-provocative footer!"
Dude, uh, Artis Gilmore was one of the strongest men in professional basketball history.
http://www.nba.com/history/players/gilmore_bio.html
Additionally, Andrew Bynum is nothing like Hakeem Olajuwon—especially regarding defense.
I agree
Did you see that sweet pass that he gave Rudy cutting through the lane. I was so upset that Rudy missed that. That is what we have to look forward to.

If Oden can just get some touch on his shots in the paint
He’s going to be near unstoppable.
But that’s a big if.
Good thing is, he’s young, so plenty of time to develop that touch.
Bynum has regressed this year
I think it’s partly the surgery, but mostly unhappiness with his role
Bayless has been testing the fences for weaknesses
Yeah, the Lakers are asking Bynum to just play defense and rebound
But everyone wants to be involved on the offensive end, especially Bynum who’s worked on his post game so much.
Greg is going to be real good
Travis is always going to stink

I wouldn't be so down on Outlaw
He has seriously long arms, and I think he presents match-up problems, esp when his outside shot is on.
Once you come to the realization that Outlaw is a role player
and not a starter or a main part of an elite team then he doesn’t look so bad. Outlaw can do a lot of things very well and can sometimes produce a huge spark for us. Some nights he stinks but thats just the type of player he is, he isn’t going to be our leader but can carry the team in spurts and make big plays for us when we need them.
by trailblazersfan on Jan 4, 2009 9:37 PM PST up reply actions
Travis can do one thing well
Shoot jump shots just like he did in high school,he hasent learned any thing since
by southern oregon on Jan 4, 2009 9:52 PM PST up reply actions
+1
I think Travis has the talent to be a great 20-25 minute player, if the team was built around him, the inconsistency would be a problem, but if he’s a role player just shave his PT down on nights when he isn’t right. Of course, his physical gifts also make him one of the most tradeable (in terms of return for actual value) guys on the team

Luke Walton was collecting DNPs early this year and was like 10th man until recently, when he moved to like #8.
He is absolutely NOT starting for the Lakers this year, healthy or not.
"Now with a non-provocative footer!"
Wow, you're hilariously ignorant on this matter.
Luke Walton has 11 starts at small forward for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, which went down when Vladimir “The Space Cadet” Radmanovic was in Phil Jackson’s doghouse.
On a side note, Trevor Ariza earned his first start this season last night against the struggling Portland Trail Blazers. You already knew that, of course.
Luke Walton: 9 DNPs, 12 games off the bench, 11 starts... Radmanovic: 2 DNPS, 10 games off the bench, 20 starts.
But you are right, I see that I was wrong contending that Phil hasn’t been starting him.
It won’t be long before Ariza is starting in any event.
