Worst. Officiating. Ever.

How many phantom calls have there been? How many calls were only whistled 2-3 seconds after the fact when the Blazers had control?

meh, it's been questionable, but too bad.

a couple bogus calls is alright with me. That one game where they held Rudy’s jersey at the end of the game and gave the foul to rudy was the game I wasn’t happy about. This one hasn’t been horrible.

Dear Channing Frye

Please take some nice warm -up shots, get your guts going, get your head on straight, and MAN THE HELL UP!
I like you Channing. I think you’re a swell guy. But if I see you at the three point arc when you should be rebounding again, I’m gonna start calling for your trade ASAP.
Best wishes,

Great performance by the Blazers

but a couple things worry me:

Bigs – Joel and Greg each have 3 fouls going into the 2nd half. With Frye sucking big time, how do the Blazers respond.

Outside shooting – We’ve had so many open looks (Blake, Rudy), we need to start knocking them down. We’re doing a good job of drawing double-teams, now let’s take advantage.

Refs – Don’t let them get in your head. Keep playing good defense and forcing those turnovers.

by SandbergOnSports on Jan 4, 2009 7:50 PM PST reply actions

Let them play through fouls

We’ll start hitting shots and the Lakers will start missing, but they probably won’t continue to turn the ball over that much

This depends on all of our role players

Batum, Channing Frye, Bayless, Fernandez, and Rodriguez.

Both Twin Towers have 3 fouls. No Roy either.

The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

Bayless has been testing the fences for weaknesses

by blazeraddict on Jan 4, 2009 7:52 PM PST up reply actions

Greg looking strong, bodying up on Bynum

Joel limited by fouls

LMA shooting well from 15 feet, but not going to the rack

Blake missing every shot in sight

Travis limited by fouls

Frye being soft

Rudy playing decent, making good passes and hitting some nice shots.

Bayless doing a Jarrett Jack impersonation (lots of jump passes). Luckily for him, they’re resulting in assists.

Sergio hasn’t played much, shot is way off.

BATUM! Great game so far! A highlight jam over Gasol; good work in transition, hitting the open 3.

yep

our main guns failed today no question about it, but Nate is so obsessed with his planned rotation that is unable to adapt. Batum played a lot of minutes today but he was sitted in crunch minutes. Also Sergio played some minutes, but in four stints… you have to recognize when a player is helping the team and not sit him just because that’s what you normally do.
I’m not blaming Nate on this loss, but he didn’t help also.

Because for the past five years before last year

Kobe got all the blame.

They need to balance it out, because the truth is Shaq as the more senior playerwas not mature enough to handle Kobe.

by Gils_Keloids on Jan 4, 2009 9:09 PM PST up reply actions

But Shaq is the one why Lakers won the ring so Kobe should of listened to him if he wanted another one.

look Shaq went to Miami and won the ring there. How come Shaq has to handle Kobe when Kobe was the one to get in deep crap?

I think Kobe really wanted to be a leader on your team, but he got in deep crap in his personal life

and wanted to involve Shaq in there so Shaq did not give that respect to Kobe thats why they could not do it, that is win another ring.

Shaq has to handle Kobe

Because he’s supposed to be the veteran and more mature.

And Shaq is not why the Lakers won the ring. Shaq and Kobe won three together.

Shaq lucked into playing with Wade in Miami. It’s not that simple.

Doe we have to go through this again?

Kobe is not a villain.

He is not a punk.

He is not a saint.

He’s just a guy who committed his life to basketball.

He’s sometimes full of himself, but not any more so than Shaq was into himself.

They guy wants to win, why do you need to project all the worst qualities onto him? Do you know him personally? I don’t. All I see is what’s on the court: hustle, desire, work ethic, and talent.

by Gils_Keloids on Jan 4, 2009 9:20 PM PST up reply actions

hey I didnt call him anything

I just use the info that came out of LA. I dont care about his personal life, i just think it was a problem for him to be a leader cuz Shaq did not respect him cuz of that, so you guys traded him, cuz he was getting old.

by RipCity on Jan 4, 2009 9:24 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah

But I felt you were implying it.

A lot of the Shaq decision was money issues, as well as Shaq screaming at the owner to “pay me my money” during a pre-season game.

Yes, Kobe had a part, too, I’m sure the Lakers feared Kobe would leave, and they made their choice, which looks like the right one where I’m sitting today.

Part of it is just losing. They had just lost the Finals, so every is a little antsy and impatient.

Anyway, the blame game is lame. It is what it is, Shaq messed up, Kobe messed up, Phil Jackson messed up. But now, the Lakers made it to the Finals, and are looking to win it all just five(?) years later, so all’s well that ends well.

Blazer Guards

i believe the blazers have the best guards from top to bottom in the NBA.. with Roy, Fernandez, Blake, Rodriguez, Bayless

Only thing blazers really need is a Pass First PG….. kinda like a Duhon type player

Blake and Sergio pass a lot more with Roy in the game

There are 3 ways to be an efficient shooter: shoot a high percentage on 2s, be an effective 3 point shooter, and get to the foul line.

Man of the match for the Blazers

He could get to the free throw line a bit more, but that’s pretty much all there was to critique on his game tonight. If only we could combine and stabilize the good games of the various players…

by Norsktroll on Jan 4, 2009 9:14 PM PST up reply actions

Two came to play and delivered

Aldridge and Batum. A couple gave the effort but had barely any game (Blake and Rudy) and there were more than normal horrendous performances tonight.

That was Travis’ worst game ever I think. I like Travis, but something is wrong…..

Bayless was also awful. He had a couple of nice passes, but those were jump passes where he had nowhere to go and luckily found someone. He has a long, long way to go.

Love Pryzbilla, but he was ineffective as well. Although he was the only one who could shoot a free throw.

I told my son at halftime that we would lose by 20 as we had so many opportunities to have a double digit lead going into halftime and we were actually down. Lakers tried like heck to give us a fighting chance but we couldn’t take advantage.

If Rudy, Blake and Travis don’t figure out their shots, I think Detroit will get there revenge.

But to end it on a good note, I really really liked Aldridge’s performance and Batum’s as well.

Joel's foul trouble hurt him (Weird to say Joel there, not Oden)

A bunch of the players came to play. Blake, Rudy, Bayless, etc. They scrapped hard and played their best. But their shots just weren’t falling.

Blake then fell apart in the third. He’ll be picking himself apart over it until the Detroit game.

by Timmay! on Jan 4, 2009 9:18 PM PST up reply actions

I agree that Blake, Rudy and Bayless

Came to play, my point was that only two came to play and delivered.

I agree Joel was taken out of the game by foul problems so he was a total non factor.

If Blake has a better shooting first half (2-8) we have a lead and some confidence. Same with Rudy.

by blazermaniac32 on Jan 4, 2009 9:21 PM PST up reply actions

Good things about this one:

We won two quarters (though the fourth, not such a big deal.)

Batum’s game was unreal. He didn’t miss a shot, he got the minutes, he made them count.
LMA had a great game.
Oden stayed out of foul trouble and made a solid contribution.

That alone would beat most teams.
That, plus a good night from Brandon, and we beat the Lakers.

But alas.

by LicketyBrindle on Jan 4, 2009 9:17 PM PST reply actions

guys

as good as LMA looked tonight, 22 points on 19 shots just isn’t all that good. Even when his shot looks good, his efficiency is marginal because he doesn’t shoot 3s or get to the line. Please don’t ignore this.

Yes but

He took 19 shots because he needed to. No one else besides Batum could hit the broad side of the barn. He was forcing some shots he normally may not take or need to take. I have zero problem with his game tonight. None.

Since I’ve read your messages stating that like 12 times already.

Hmmm

Although neither measures up to these greats, Bynum is like Kareem to Oden’s Shaq. On a much smaller scale.

by Gils_Keloids on Jan 4, 2009 9:23 PM PST up reply actions

I'd go with this analogy.

Greg Oden : Patrick Ewing :: Andrew Bynum : Artis Gilmore

I’ve already explained why Oden is comparable to Ewing, so I won’t rehash it.

Bynum is very similar to Gilmore, though, particularly with regards to shooting efficiency.

by AK1984 on Jan 4, 2009 9:56 PM PST up reply actions

Bynum is way stronger and much worse offensively than Artis Gilmore.

Bynum is like…………. Ummmm, maybe Hakeem minus offense.

I agree

Did you see that sweet pass that he gave Rudy cutting through the lane. I was so upset that Rudy missed that. That is what we have to look forward to.

"I saw him in the face" Sergio's quote on the latest alley-oop to Rudy.

He also had a nice one to LMA

If Oden can just get some touch on his shots in the paint

He’s going to be near unstoppable.

But that’s a big if.

Good thing is, he’s young, so plenty of time to develop that touch.

by Gils_Keloids on Jan 4, 2009 9:27 PM PST up reply actions

Bynum has regressed this year

I think it’s partly the surgery, but mostly unhappiness with his role

Yeah, the Lakers are asking Bynum to just play defense and rebound

But everyone wants to be involved on the offensive end, especially Bynum who’s worked on his post game so much.

I wouldn't be so down on Outlaw

He has seriously long arms, and I think he presents match-up problems, esp when his outside shot is on.

by Gils_Keloids on Jan 4, 2009 9:33 PM PST up reply actions

Once you come to the realization that Outlaw is a role player

and not a starter or a main part of an elite team then he doesn’t look so bad. Outlaw can do a lot of things very well and can sometimes produce a huge spark for us. Some nights he stinks but thats just the type of player he is, he isn’t going to be our leader but can carry the team in spurts and make big plays for us when we need them.

Travis can do one thing well

Shoot jump shots just like he did in high school,he hasent learned any thing since

by southern oregon on Jan 4, 2009 9:52 PM PST up reply actions

+1

I think Travis has the talent to be a great 20-25 minute player, if the team was built around him, the inconsistency would be a problem, but if he’s a role player just shave his PT down on nights when he isn’t right. Of course, his physical gifts also make him one of the most tradeable (in terms of return for actual value) guys on the team

Put it this way

You want Luke Walton? Because he starts for the Lakers when healthy.

by Gils_Keloids on Jan 4, 2009 9:40 PM PST reply actions

Lamar Odom

Has to be going crazy over that lol

by trailblazersfan on Jan 4, 2009 9:44 PM PST up reply actions

Luke Walton was collecting DNPs early this year and was like 10th man until recently, when he moved to like #8.

He is absolutely NOT starting for the Lakers this year, healthy or not.

Wow, you're hilariously ignorant on this matter.

Luke Walton has 11 starts at small forward for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, which went down when Vladimir “The Space Cadet” Radmanovic was in Phil Jackson’s doghouse.

On a side note, Trevor Ariza earned his first start this season last night against the struggling Portland Trail Blazers. You already knew that, of course.

by AK1984 on Jan 4, 2009 11:35 PM PST up reply actions

Luke Walton: 9 DNPs, 12 games off the bench, 11 starts... Radmanovic: 2 DNPS, 10 games off the bench, 20 starts.

But you are right, I see that I was wrong contending that Phil hasn’t been starting him.

It won’t be long before Ariza is starting in any event.

BTW:

Luke Walton, not counting his 9 DNPs …………….. 12. 2 average minutes per game.

Channing Frye, not counting his DNPs……………….. 12.3 average minutes per game.

Just sayin’…

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
