Trade rumors trawler (feel free to suggest your own)
While we are waiting for Godot Kobe, here is a roundup of some trade rumors around the league fished from the net:
- The Bobcats are finding no takers for Adam Morrison. Shocker. A player shooting 35% can't be dealt? It didn't help matters that the Bobcats picked up the last year of his rookie scale contract, at a whopping $5.2 million, instead of making him an expiring deal. Maybe we could help to ease the pain of
His AirnessHis Errness (who also has to deal with an unfit for play Sean May) by taking him in a package with Gerald Wallace? And does anybody remember why there was a "Draft the Stache" movement? - Stephon Marbury is still no Celtic. But we can still hope they are really that dumb.
- Toronto is shopping former #1 pick Andrea Bargnani and Anthony Parker (age 33) according to the New York Daily News. (According to other sources below everyone but Bosh and Calderon.) Unfortunately Bargnani might be the player with the least defined position in the NBA, and has less power than most
softsmall forwards. So I have no trade suggestions for this rumor. - Our rivals the Nuggets are offering Chucky Atkins to get under the luxury tax according to several sources. So far no takers, but several teams including the Knicks seem interested and would be even more interested if the Nuggets reluctantly include a future first round pick.
- The Team That Shall Not Be Named has made Nick Collision, Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith available for the right trade offer, and had first talks with Denver and Memphis. Boston and Cleveland reportedly would like to take veteran Smith, preferably if he was bought out. A new backup power forward anyone?
- Chicago lost to harmless Timberwolves. Coach VDN handed out fines to (at least) Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah and Larry Hughes for - good grief - eating in the locker room before the game against the Nets to demonstrate his lack of authority. Noah and Nocioni openly argued over who has to do what on defense during the games against the Cavaliers and Magic. Signs are mounting that something needs to change for that team. Yeah, Bulls fans always want to change most of their team, but it seems like this time they could get their wish before the trade deadline.
- Beginning tomorrow, teams can sign players to ten day contracts. Unfortunately there are only about a dozen open roster spots in the league right now, but combined with the fast approaching deadline that makes all contracts guaranteed (next Saturday - looking at you Darius Miles) that could create some movements in the next week.

draft the stache
I mean wow. I wasn’t angry about drafting roy and “missing out” on morrison at the time but I definitely thought that he was going to be a player. At least a guy that could score. Stuff like this is why I never question KP. Ever.
The celtics ARE that dumb…by the way, I don’t even care that we lost a sloppy home game to the hornets. I’m not even that stressed about a potential blow out coming this evening against our greatest rivals, in LA. Beating the celtics with toughness and effort was enough for me. I’m good for another 10 losses or so.
Andrea Bargnani was supposed to be a mismatch for everyone, but therin lies the problem. I get that he was gonna be too quick for bigs, and too big for smalls, but isn’t the opposite true as well? isn’t he too small for bigs and too slow for smalls? He’s a good mismatch on one end and a terrible one on the other. Its not just him though, its like that for any player that fits that mold. Ah well, lets not forget, he got a vote for rookie of the year once!
Chicao has desperately needed to make a move for a long time now but their GM is famously shy to pull the trigger on ANY deal. Pau? nah, don’t really need him. Tyrus Thomas shaping up to be a bust (who’d a thunk it?), lets take the wait and see approach. Joakim Noah fighting with his teammates and arguing with coaches…in his rookie year?! Lets keep him in the locker room for another year or two.
The Blazers as a whole are far more like my wife than like me in the sense of their physicality on defense.

oh, some trade stuff
Randolph Hopes To Work His Way Out Of Warriors’ Doghouse:
After being held out of the last three Warrior games, reporters asked coach Don Nelson if forward Anthony Randolph was officially out of the rotation, and Nelson responded with his harshest criticism of his rookie yet, the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting. Nelson said that Randolph needed to “grow up” and was being “put on ice” until his assistants and captains deemed him ready to play.
I don’t know. He gets 6 and 4 in like 13 minutes/game. He’s a rookie. Don’t need to get any younger but he’s a slightly intriguing talent. Glad we don’t have Nate talking about Bayless like this…
The 76ers aren’t thrilled with the way the season has progressed thus far, and general manager Ed Stefanski has been working the phones as of late:
“We’re on the phones a lot, learning what other teams are looking for and seeing if there’s anything out there that makes sense for us,” Stefanski said. Stefanski didn’t reveal who he has been shopping, but point guard Andre Miller is a prime target. He has played well, and is in the final season of his contract.
He’s 32. Again, doesn’t exactly fit the timeline but a solid vet PG.
Thunder point guard Earl Watson sounds like an NBA analyst when discussing the chances of being traded:
“It’s very high,” said Watson. “At the same time, I’m trying to make the best of the situation here. But I think the writing is pretty much on the wall.” “It’s obvious the way things are going,” he said. “We’re a team that’s still in transition. … You try to be professional and try to mesh in, and try to make the best out of this team.”
Add him to the pu pu platter that team is looking to dump.

I'd take Collison
over Ike or Frye in a heartbeat. However, I doubt he’s the linchpin for a championship run, so I’d hate to muddy the waters on a minor deal if there is something bigger planned in the next 6 months.
collison doesn't bring us closer to a championship
he’s just a better backup PF. Plus, I’d prefer Brandon Bass from the Mavs who’s riding the pine, but has been a dynamite bench PF for a few seasons
but if we improve at the backup '4'
doesn’t that make us a better team, hence, closer to a championship?
"Smile! You're on a poster!!" - Mike Rice
I feel like you can always draft a backup 4, even into the 2nd round.
I think if you’re gonna break up the ju ju of this team, it should be for a starter caliber 1 or 3.

Portland sends…
Sergio and Channing to Memphis, and Travis and Raef to Philidelphia
Portland gets Mike Conley, from Mem, and Elton Brand from Philly
are you saying that LMA and Oden don't already coexist in the middle?
Brand is an upgrade over LMA at the same position. Better rebounder, quality defender, dependable scorer on the block or out to 15 ft.
Brand is 30. Long in the tooth for a basketball player. LaMarcus is 23.
"Aneurysm".
When Outlaw wins a game on a last-second shot, it’s called an "annthefaneurysm". QualityPie
30 with a bad injury history at that
Agreed, stay away from Elton

It’s actually a decent trade for Memphis and Philly, but I think might not do it just because of how lopsided it is towards us. Plus, I doubt Philly gives up on Brand this early

No way LMA will fit great with Oden and Roy for many years

Portland's in the trade news this morning.
The Knicks may be interested in Jerryd Bayless, who has fallen behind Sergio Rodriguez on their depth chart, and whom the team passed on in this year’s draft or Rodriguez , but the combination of either and a first round pick won’t be enough to entice Walsh. This is where a third team may get involved.
Tru'enuff
But it’s a very enticing prospect for us. We have to take a bad contract from them (Quentin Richardson) or get a 3rd team involved. He would be a nice pick up in addition to the veteran scorer/leader we are shopping for.
Lee is very enticing
but if KP and Nate see either Sergio or Bayless (my personal choice), you can’t justify sending a starting PG on a contender for a backup 4, especially when there are a lot of Lee banger/hustler type 4s available in this years draft.

My wishlist is less about a specific player and more about needs
Someone who:
1. can get to the basket off the dribble
2. can get to the free throw line (see #1)
3. is not primarily a jump shooeter (see #1 and #2)
4. can play elite, or close to elite defense (keep guys away from the basket)
5. has a little dog in them, and will bring the fight to the other team
6. is not in the process of proving themselves
7. fits in
Guys I think could do some of those things:
Andre Iguodala (I can dream, can’t I?)
Caron Butler
Gerald Wallace
Rudy Gay (never gonna happen)
Corey Maggette
John Salmons
What about Bayless for Lee straight up (or with a top-8 protected pick?)
I make that deal. We get someone who immediately becomes one of the best PF’s in the league. Young, hard worker absurd rebounder, competent defender.
Only thing is I think we might be able to pick up Lee for nothing this summer.
Blake/Sergio
Roy/Rudy
Webster/Outlaw/Batum
Aldridge/Lee
Oden/Gorrilla
Improve our team big time, plus we would still have RLEC and some solid trade pieces if we want to improve at PG or SF.
Does NY make that deal? I’d say probably not

how does he become one of the
best PFs in the league?
I used to watch a lot of Knicks games and he is easily dominated in the post so at best he is a competent defender.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
Yeah, someone's brewing a bunch of Lee cool aid and too many guys are swilling it.
He’s a nice player off the bench who brings energy.
I honestly think half of his appeal is because he’s white.
I give him
+2 points for being white, but then I immediately subtract 2 points for the curly hair so it is a wash for me.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
Agree on the kool aid sentiment
Lee is a very good/great BACKUP 4. Unfortunately, some people seem willing to give more to get him than if LeBron were on the block, it’s getting a bit insane.
Bayless has been testing the fences for weaknesses
Er...
I meant “best backup PF’s in the league.”
I like Lee but not that much.
I thought bayless was going to be our eventual starter...
why would we trade that for a guy that will be a career backup? I mean, he’s great at what he does but he’s not a starter on this or any team. Also, anyone coming from dantoni’s system is gonna have slightly inflated numbers. I want him, just not for Bayless but I don’t think NY will take much less…

+1
I said the same thing above before I saw your post. Lee is great, but why give up a potential starting PG for a backup PF? I’m guessing at least one of Blair, Hansbrough, or Patterson will be available to the Blazers in the draft, all three of those guys bring similar benefits as Lee, and you don’t have to give up Bayless

How about
Portland gets: Caron Butler, Etan Thomas and Darius Songaila
Washington gets: Raef LaFrentz, Sergio Rodriguez, Channing Frye and Travis Outlaw.
trade succeeds on the trade machine. Washington gets the PG they need (they’re starting Mike James, who’s awful) and two young rotation players, plus MAJOR salary relief next year. Blazers get the starting 3 (former all star vet) that they need, and some backup bigs with character.
Bayless moves into backup 1/2, Butler starts at 3, Fernandez is the 6th man.
Caron Butler
is their Brandon Roy. I just don’t see them making this deal. But then again, crazier things have happened. Pau for Kwame makes this possible.
The Blazers as a whole are far more like my wife than like me in the sense of their physicality on defense.

The man
that fills the seats in DC is Agent Zero. Caron is just the straight guy, the side-kick. The Wizards impending trip to the lottery round makes anything possible, including Butler to Portland.
Yeah, but you wouldn't trade him for Agent Zero's backup
If you were going to trade either Butler or Jamison to rebuild a younger team around Agent Zero you wouldn’t trade them for his backup(Sergio).
by danielfarrell on Jan 4, 2009 5:23 PM PST up reply actions
I like that idea
(Partly because I configured a very similar trade when looking at the machine.) Etan Thomas is too expensive, but he is a really high character guy who would cause no trouble, and expires just in time for 2010 when teams might find him attractive. Songaila’s contract is a bit ugly, maybe we would buy him out at some time (I would compare him to Tyler Hansbrough).
Etan Thomas would fit in well in Portland
Etan’s politics are left wing, and he is something of a hero to the anti-war crowd. He’d be a more radical version of Channing. Maybe he could even take part in a tree sit during the off-season.
The perfect is the enemy of the good.
LOL
at the thought of Etan and Tre Arrow perched on the federal building downtown. He would be the best thing to happen to sports coverage in the Willamette Week since Walton :)

Sergio, Outlaw, & Frye
to OKC for starting small forward Kevin Durant..
I think it’s safe to say those 3 players have reached their potential on this team. OKC may bite as this would make their team better, instantly. Sergio wants to be on a more fast paced offense. Trout would like to go close to home. And Frye knows he probably isnt in the future Blazers roster.
I don’t know any of the contract variables for said players, though.
Just thought i’d throw a hook in the water.
when i get sad, i stop being sad & become awesome again. true story.
Oops. I think you forgot to bait the hook.

What if threw in Mike Rice along with "future considerations"?
when i get sad, i stop being sad & become awesome again. true story.
I'll go a step farther...
I wouldn’t want Durant on this team. I don’t see him coexisting with other players who get more touches than him. He also lives on the perimeter way too much. This could change as he matures, but I’d only want him if we could turn him into a something that better suits our needs.
Uhhhhhgggg !
Talk about a cancer. We have scorers. We don’t
need a volumne, low % FG shooter to come in an
trump Outlaw’s one-on-one throw ups !
Chemistry folks, Chemistry !
It's GO time !
Come on
The only thing more ridiculous than saying Team X is trading Durant is saying he wouldn’t improve our team.
I watched Whitsitt's Blazers long enough to know talent doesn't equal winning
I watched Durant up here in Seattle for a full season and was not impressed, and I’m not talking about rookie stuff. He projects to an all-star scorer in the mold of Tracy McGrady. I don’t see that as a great fit with our lineup. We need what Batum might become, and what players like Shane Battier and Tayshaun Prince already are.
If we could get someone with some scoring as well, a la Butler, all the better.
What would Prince look like in Portland? Would you trade future Prince, Batum for the real deal? He’s 28, and could grow with the team.
The Brain
Shane or Gerald. Put Travis at the PF for good and give up Channing for one of these guys. Obviously they’ll help us to the playoffs more than Channing will.
Life is hilarious.
3 team trade: Blazers, Bullets, Bobcats
This whole trade hinges on whether it’s true that the Bobcats really are ready to commit long-term to D.J. Augustin over the older and more expensive Raymond Felton. If so, I think this is a deal that fills needs across the board, i.e., a deal everybody could live with:
Blazers receive: Caron Butler, Etan Thomas, Adam Morrison
Bullets receive: RLEC, Raymond Felton, Travis Outlaw
Bobcats receive: Sergio Rodriguez, Darius Songaila, Channing Frye
I’m sure some of you will not care for the Blazers getting back the ‘Stache, but sometimes you have to take some chaff along with the wheat. (It’s also key to getting Charlotte to make the deal.) Besides, this means that in Thomas and Morrison the Blazers will have the most two avowed leftists in the NBA!
Personally, I think this is the best deal I’ve ever come up with on the Trade Machine.
The Bullets?
Are they still around?
